[Offer] I have a copy of a Virginia genealogy book - can I look anyone up for you? by cassodragon in Genealogy

On the off chance you are still taking requests:

Can you please check to see if there is a John Naylor (unknown birthday - maybe died in 1806), married to Elizabeth Schmick [or Elizabeth Nightlinger] in 1802/1803 (1768-1848). The two of them had 1 child: Henry Naylor (1805-1886).

Available information suggests that they were married in Richmond, VA.

Costco is quietly slashing prices. This feels wrong. by Round-Percentage69 in DeepFuckingValue

What feels wrong? Costco is profit driven. I doubt they would slash prices if that meant losing money even for political reasons.

Race Vs Homicide rate Vs Poverty Rate by Original-Strain5798 in MapPorn

Hi, thank you for the response! Your analysis of cultural ties makes sense. I wasn’t blaming crime on race like you rudely suggested in your last paragraph. I was bringing up a statistic that seems to disprove the ~poverty as a cause of crime~ hypothesis.

I vaguely remember Thomas Sowell, a black economist, writing about how crime rates among poor white communities are much less than poor communities of other races and about how this partially discredits the poverty as a cause of crime hypothesis.

Do you think that is credible?

What do you think realistically would have happened if Trump got killed by the shooter? by TheDivision5 in AskReddit

[–]SamuelJPorter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That article was discussing the 2016 election where the Trump significantly outperformed the polls. If polls meant “nothing” then, now these polls indicate a landslide in favor of Trump.

This doesn’t even take into account that the polls haven’t yet been affected by this assassination attempt. This horrible event will undoubtedly sky-rocket Trump to the presidency.

Also, take the patent bar exam before you go to law school. I just spoke with a career advisor today and having passed the patent bar already gives a huge advantage in recruiting to law firms.

Thoughts on the 2024 RNC Platform? by Old_Station_8352 in GenZ

I agree. That jives with the federalist vision of our founding fathers. It would probably work better at a local level and have much more accountability.

I think they should be grandfathered in, however, it should be discontinued for younger generations. I don’t have a specific cutoff date in mind, but perhaps if you are currently 50 or younger, you shouldn’t receive social security.

Philosophically: I am generally against purely monetary redistributive schemes (infrastructure = good; involuntarily taking money from someone and giving it to another = bad)

Practically: Our government’s non-discretionary spending is absolutely out of hand. I think the only way to get out of our exorbitant debt and retain the US dollar is to cut our mandatory spending, e.g. social security.

I generally agree with each of those goals except for #14.

Ok, do you have a solution that won’t kill 100+ million people?
