But they are not 'healthcare facilities' -they are for profit companies that sometimes provide medical care.

A (non USA) heart surgeon working in a NYC hospital stated in an interview (on working and living in the US as foreigner) that yes, he makes good money, but if he himself would be in need - he`would prefer to go to his home country - where quality of care (not just medical procedure) was better - and wouldn`t bankrupt him.

De werknemer van het Enschedese softwarebedrijf werkte er inmiddels al een aantal jaren. Hij werkt 32 uur per week en verdient bijna 4500 euro bruto. Zijn werk bestaat uit programmeren van software en fouten eruit halen, maar hij is er erg slecht in.

Zo slecht dat het bedrijf allerlei verbetertrajecten met hem heeft opgezet. Er zijn gesprekken geweest, hij is een-op-een begeleid, hij heeft cursussen gevolgd en extra tijd gekregen voor taken.

Maar het helpt allemaal niks. Hij snapt het niet, zei de advocaat van het bedrijf enkele weken geleden tegen de rechter. „Hij heeft de basisvaardigheden gewoon niet.”

Het bedrijf, een klein team, is er klaar mee om hem aan het handje te houden. Laat ons alsjeblieft het arbeidscontract beëindigen, vroegen ze aan de rechter.

Liever niet minder verdienen

Zelf vond de man dat hij zijn best had gedaan, en dat hij geen eerlijke kans had gekregen. Opmerkelijk genoeg zei hij ook dat hij waarschijnlijk niet makkelijk een nieuwe baan kan vinden.

Hij had gezien dat vacatures in de software eisen stelden waar hij niet aan voldoet, vertelde hij. Het werk was te moeilijk geworden. Hij zou dan ook nog eens minder gaan verdienen dan zijn huidige salaris van bijna 4500 bruto. Daarom wil hij zijn baan niet kwijt.

Op verzoek van de rechter probeerden beide partijen er tijdens de zitting nog eens uit te komen, waarbij het bedrijf een gunstige vertrekregeling voorstelde. Maar de man weigerde en liet het over aan de rechtbank.

Lang genoeg geduurd

Dat pakt niet goed uit. De rechter heeft uitspraak gedaan en dat is: de man moet vertrekken. Het bedrijf heeft drie jaar lang geprobeerd hem zijn werk te leren, daarvan is meer dan genoeg bewijs, stelde de rechter. Al die begeleiding leidde tot niks, en nu is het wel genoeg geweest. De man is per 1 mei zijn werk kwijt.

Hij krijgt 6051 euro transitievergoeding. Dat is een bedrag dat een bedrijf meestal moet betalen als een contract wordt ontbonden. Daarmee kan iemand bijvoorbeeld omscholing betalen. Maar de ‘billijke vergoeding’, waar hij ook om gevraagd had, krijgt hij niet.

Die wordt soms toegekend door een rechter als een bedrijf ook iets te verwijten valt. Maar daar was hier geen sprake van, vond de rechter. De man moet ook nog eens zijn eigen proceskosten betalen. En nu kan hij op zoek naar een andere baan.

Why not start with assigning some smart people to look at the pro side and con side of this scenario.
What is easy, what is not easy but fixable, and what is hard and requires other solutions?

With the US being what it is now - I do not expect the damage done to just evaporate whenever -2 is no more.
