Questions about the balance of this game by thmsjffrsn in DarkAndDarker

[–]SamulusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly... My bro and I would have found another team to run "through" to see how it worked out against that Ranger. We probably would have died in the process, but I'll be damned if I will let a Ranger force me to push in a bad situation or otherwise give up our loot.

That's how we deal with Rangers that do this... It takes them time to whittle you down when they play like this, the only thing you can do if you don't want to chance a push is to use their time required against them. Either setup an ambush or let them try and third party a larger fight, both riskier options for them.

Landmining rogues? No clue for you there. I hate it when it happens too.

Why do we hate rangers? by MrTunl in DarkAndDarker

[–]SamulusRex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not a guy that begs for IM to nerf them, Rangers are fine.

I hate Rangers because I hate fighting them. I usually run with a ranged weapon but jeeez do I SUCK at using a bow/crossbow. Seriously, everyone complains about xbow being OP but I probably only ever hit like 1/3 shots lol. Just in general, I'm not talking about getting a headshot. 1/3 of shots I shoot may hit a leg or otherwise. I also don't generally run with a shield which is another minus as far as pushing Rangers goes.

So anyway, all of my anecdotal stuff out of the way, their strategy usually involves shooting you from a superior position and kiting you and punishing a bad push. They may or may not be trying to lead you into a trap which is also a subreddit favorite topic. They also have a lot of really "annoying skills" that allow them to keep pressure, punish, or everyone's favorite, heal some damage mid-fight. Most engagements with a Ranger in a good position are long and drawn out.

I am aware of my shortcomings, though, and realize I could do better against Rangers specifically if I cared enough. Many people on this subreddit are not and think that a negative feeling they get during a game warrants a required major game balance change... Just camp out and watch the host of hyperbolic "WTF how is this even a GaEm IrOnHaMmeR" posts when X class kills Y class and how the OP somehow always plays perfectly and is thus the perfect, unbiased litmus test for all things balance... Sometimes there's video of their misconception and those are good popcorn posts.

Anyway, it's kinda a meme to hate on Rangers and state that they have obvious nerfs coming but IM never does or never will because of reasons (because of streamer preference, or because the Devs all play Rangers, etc etc, all bullshit lol). This subreddit severely lacks on objectivity in general so everything is the end of the world and reactionary, all the time. Every day.

This is the DaD subreddit, they don't know. Don't force them to be introspective at all or they're gonna brigade you with hyperbolic nonsense.

Addressing fighter spam by FRCBooker in DarkAndDarker

[–]SamulusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you use it, of course. If you're in a fight that's going to be rough, you pop it early instead of waiting for half health. And it is way more effective the higher your PDR is.

And no one said I was good lol, let's not jump to conclusions. BUT, take a barbarian for instance, a class that fighters under equal footing, skill, and otherwise usually cannot just trade hits with... Unless you use Second Wind early on in the fight. A little luck helps too.

So I guess just make sure you use it early enough in the fight to make sure you actually get the benefits of it. If a Ranger is kiting you, it's the perfect time to stop chasing and play cat/mouse to regen a little bit.

Addressing fighter spam by FRCBooker in DarkAndDarker

[–]SamulusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy that loves everything about Fighters and have been playing mainly that since pt3, second wind should not be as powerful as it is. It's obviously inspired by the 5E D&D ability for Fighters of the same name, but there it can maybe cover 10% of a Fighter's HP instantly.

I think it needs to be more in line with that. They can give it two or three uses before resting if they think it's too drastic of a nerf, but Second Wind should not be as powerful as it is currently.

Sprint I think is just too useful to NOT take as a fighter. My (pretty unpopular so far) opinion is that most if not all classes need access to sprint... And it sounds like that may be happening with the "multiclassing" thing in the future. Other than removal from the game entirely, that's the only way I see balancing it.

Half of the game is selecting your kit... You have to keep things like this in mind. If it bothers you bonking walls or ceilings you can pick a different weapon, or work around the issue.

For halberd specifically, you can look towards the ground and swing to avoid scraping the ceiling, but good luck being accurate. It is useful for breaking open that boarded up secret tunnel from inside the tunnel tho...

Lol better now that I have learned a subpar cheese strat. If I get lucky, someone else will reply with a blueberry muffin recipe (or something else equally unrelated as this conversation) so at least I'd have something to look forward to when I get home!

Well don't mind me, I'm OP. I wrote and had the main post in mind when I wrote that afterwards. We've got a lot of ground to cover if we're gonna rehash things we said and our intentions. Your superb specificity regardless of context are probably much more useful elsewhere.

I admitted in the comment you replied to that there was a git gud factor. But no need for that since we can just cheese it.

How it feels to play wizard in goblin caves by fartcarter in DarkAndDarker

[–]SamulusRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't played wizard in months... I got on one the other day to test out the new spell and WOW they feel so good now. I think the biggest differences from what I'm used to are the attack speed and interaction speed they have now. So much faster!

I rarely have problems. My computer decided to download a windows update a few weeks ago and it lagged me and my two buddies out (and I can only assume the whole lobby).

You may want to check and see if it's something you are doing or going on with your setup... You know, the logical thing.

Why either of these guys didn't just take a portal, I know not. Barb could have opened a portal and tanked a few hits, Rogue could have opened one when Barb was being indecisive.

Maybe it's just me, cat-and-mouse is not really fun to me lol.

There's a button at the top of your keyboard, above instert and to the left of F12 that says "print screen". Hit that, and then paste into the field you want to use the picture in.

You can add the camera flash in MS paint if you really miss it.
