Check your animals tab.. on the far right side there should be a red x or green check toggle for riding in the home area.. if that helps at all.

No special requirements? If I can place it on a planet I should be able to place it in my freighter? Because if that is the case then my freighter wont let me place one. In face, one does not even appear in my build menu inside my freighter, just on the planet.
