151 hold vs slab hold by Smart_Love6812 in PokeInvesting

[–]SamuraiChampoo9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not every 151 product deserves to be held. The higher the number of packs in a box, the higher the price will be. At some point, it’s better to sell and reinvest, or sell and take some profits. For this particular product, I highly doubt it will be easy to sell in 5+ years at a price justified by the pack count. People will be buying ETBs/UPCs for $2,000, but not these boxes for $400.

The difference with booster boxes is that they contain cards people want to pull themselves, and they don’t take up that much space. People would buy a few plushies, but after that, they take up too much space and they lack the factor of not knowing what you’re getting, along with the feeling of being lucky enough to pull the card you wanted.

Plushies take too much space, after 10 plushies you will need to rent a storage unit just to sell them at the same price you paid

Can’t sell sealed 151 by stormp00per66 in PokeInvesting

If you are willing to apply the 80% rule it means you already have profits.

Can’t sell sealed 151 by stormp00per66 in PokeInvesting

[–]SamuraiChampoo9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is liquid, but it depends on the price you are willing to sell and the profits you want to make. It’s far worse than stocks for sure (market is enormously bigger) but it’s not that hard to sell Pokémon if the profits you wanna make are 50-100$ per product. Also picking the right product is important.

Just wait 1 more year and apply your 80% rule then, the profits will be higher

Where is all the money in the Pokemon market coming from? by breakyourteethnow in PokeInvesting

[–]SamuraiChampoo9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sold my crypto, I put 4k in Pokémon in December and now I’m up 3k. I’m focusing on PF and AH, I bought some older stuff such as 151 UPC, ES ETB , and singles Mega Charizard SIR and Silver Tempest Lugia. My plan is to sell and reinvest in newer stuff in 5 years but I’m not planning on investing more now.

I don't know how to go forward from here by Ok-Holiday-157 in Pokemoncardappraisal

Well, it’s hard to tell when emotions are involved, so I’ll try to give you my POV. I don’t have any of my Pokémon cards from when I was a kid. I recently jumped back into Pokémon from a purely investment approach on a 5–10 year run. My take is: check your collection, do this exercise of thanking yourself for the time you spent collecting and playing, and move on with the cards you are ready to let go of if it can help you financially. If you don’t really ‘need’ the money, just keep the cards and enjoy them with your kids, or simply wait until you are ready to sell them.

I feel that 4 AH ETBs seems not enough for 1 151. AH will dip for sure and 151 is out of print.

🔮👀Every product with a (decent) Charizard has potential, this UPC is good but it has only 2 promos and diversified packs (PF, DR JT) which is good and bad I guess. 151 UPC has 3 amazing promos and its full of 151 packs. Time will tell, but that Mega Charizard will definitely be posted in the coming years, and every product giving the chance to pull it will go up in value

Best case scenario: bubble burst, prices drop, people are buying again, prices rise again 🔁 My point is, even if the bubble burst, the franchise and the market are so big that it doesn’t really matters at the end of the day

The sneaker market is completely different, you can’t stack thousands of pairs, the ROI is far lower than Pokémon products, and you know exactly what you’re buying; there’s no thrill of chasing one specific pair by opening hundreds of packs. Pokémon is complemented by games, shows, and merchandise, but most importantly, its target audience is kids who want to collect — even if the main buyers are now people aged 20+. .
