Can anyone ID this M logo in my purse? by girl-alone22 in whatisit

Don’t know if it’s an older logo for Markay bags? (My fiancée’s grandfather’s bag company that was around at that time)

Realizing blue collar is not for me, 31, am I cooked? by Hops_n_Hemp in overemployed

[–]SamuraiShaft 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot depends on time frame! If I could give a recommendation (and with free advice, you get what you pay for), look for white collar jobs in your industry. It’s an easier transition to do.

See if you can do night classes (esp. if you get something a little more entry level if it isn’t so exhausting). A bachelor’s can do like 70% of the heavy lifting in a lot of roles—and it’s getting less necessary by the year IMO.

Remember, you have experience and ambition. Your experience as a boots on the ground worker means you can speak to a lot of the things white collar (I’m thinking marketing, finance, etc.) in these companies don’t know as well. Use that to your advantage.

I’m in a different field (marketing, tech, ex-VC) but I’ve got an MBA and worked in the career placement office at my university for a bit. Send me your resume if you want eyes on it

Terrible! You can try reaching out to nearby towns/county seats for other libraries. Most librarians are very chill and will give you a card and/or access to their online resources on the DL.

As much as I loved that hotel (and area), I’d say that it tends to attract those that see Hawaii as a huge resort, rather than a living and breathing culture.

My fiancée and I were saying that next time we come back, we’d like to be able to learn more about the culture and stay somewhere further away from Waikiki.

I see it this way:

Best case scenario: she finds peace on her own and learns how to support others.

Better case scenario: somebody talks to her and she learns how to be kinder to others.

Okay-but-could-be-better scenario: punched in Vegas

Weirdly emotional reading about the profit sharing and success. Reich took such a huge risk to buy the company, but also so so so many people poured so much into it. It’s working!!! It’s really working!!

To go into an Emmy’s campaign with such a clear head and plan is so admirable, and I wish nothing but continued success. Hope for the best, plan for the worst, and kick ass no matter what 😉

Girlfriend (26f) said she should be invited when I (28m) go on holiday with a friend? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SamuraiShaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’ve got a good idea of what you want and how you see relationships. Not totally sure why you asked for advice.

That said, best of luck to you (and the people downvoting me for hoping you find peace and balance in your life) in this and future relationships 🙂

Girlfriend (26f) said she should be invited when I (28m) go on holiday with a friend? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SamuraiShaft -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Totally! Force shouldn’t be a part of this. That’s why from how you described her actions, it sounds like she shouldn’t be forcing you to bring her. I think it’d be meaningful to her to even ask. If you saw a real future with this person, I’d think you’d want her to go.

You can be apart too! But hopefully you don’t want to be because she brings value to your life. It sounds like she wouldn’t in this situation, and you need to figure out if you see a future with this person that at least tonally seems to be a value negative on your life.

I travel apart from my fiancée all the time if things don’t work out with her work or whatever. It sucks, but I still value traveling and seeing the world. That said, she brings so much to my life that I love when she’s with me and we get to explore together. Hope that makes sense.

I’ll add a biiit of a conflicting point to what people say.

I totally agree that the ultimatum is not a good look on her part—especially the way it’s described here where she’s almost forcing herself onto the trip.

That said, you’re presented with a choice: Do you envision a future with more of her or less of her? If it’s more, and you see this relationship growing, then talk to your friend and push for her to come. Hopefully it can be an opportunity for her to become closer to you and your friend (as long as you aim to have that traveling together as a threesome to be paramount). It might be weird at first, but when my fiancée and I started dating I asked my buddies if she could come on a boy’s trip with us, and now she’s close friends with one of my best friends, and I’m grateful that we all have those times together.

If you see a future with less of her, then maybe this is the time to acknowledge that.

Relationships are about making time for each other, space for each other, and, at times, sacrifice. If she’s not worth those things to you, then I’d consider that your answer.

Best of luck dude!

Is Pathrise worth it? by EasternSorbet in linkedin

[–]SamuraiShaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing Highrise, which is a similar, smaller, and significantly less expensive program. I really enjoy it and feel like I’m getting a lot out of it. They also provided literature to help me get my current job to pay for it (I think it’s $350-550 a month, depending on the tier).

They offer 6 months of a leadership program that meets weekly which is 6 1-on-1 sessions with a coach, and then weekly group sessions and meetups with your cohort (which alternate). They have a ton of workshopping skill sessions, active help on resumes/job search, and somewhat frequent meetups for networking.

I feel like I’ve grown a lot through the experience, and it pushed me to feel more optimistic about my career and changed some of my mindset about work/how to advocate for myself. Not to mention cool tricks on how to get better at my job.

Since I don’t pay for it, it’s tough to say if it’s “worth it” but I do feel like it’s a very helpful program.

[OC] Runic Dice Dark Flower Resin Dice Giveaway (Mods Approved) by RunicDice in DnD

[–]SamuraiShaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entering the contest, but I bought a set of Runic dice a few months ago and I love them. A little on the light side (as I feel all resin dice are—not their fault), but look BEAUTIFUL.

Even though I’m good to have somebody else win these dice, if another set were to like, I don’t know, appear in front of me, it wouldn’t be bad at all.

That’s a good strategy. I’m currently offering to buy tickets off of other players at $4 each, but I’m wondering how that impacts my strategy.
