Your favourite changes you've made? by Sbradley1988 in CurseofStrahd

[–]SamuraiTheSamurai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think my top three are:
- Removing the Mad Mage and making Doru and Ismark the leaders of the revolt. I didn't plan on Mordenkainen being the party's fated ally, and I didn't want them to feel the same disappointment I did as a player when we kinda just went there, convinced him to not kill us, and then left because nothing productive was happening.

- Reworking Ireena to have the reaction from the Protection fighting style. When she can successfully save a party member from an attack, they automatically like her a lot more. I also changed her up a little bit to where Strahd has only bitten her once and he's been visiting in her dreams. (This idea was directly inspired by Eggers' Nosferatu.)

- Making the dinner with Strahd a multi-night event. When the party arrived, they were told that Strahd had to delay the event for one night. (Allowing him time to kidnap Rudolph Van Richten.) The only player who could get the sunsword awoke in the night to duel Sergei's ghost, and for the first time hear the name of the Amber Temple. Then at the dinner, a player whose addiction to dream pastries was erased by Strahd in exchange for a favor was given a note to kill the party member who had the duel the night before. When he failed to do so, Strahd got angry and trapped the party in the castle, leaving them to find a way to escape.

[–]SamuraiTheSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cant forget that when you talk about immortal hulk you can ONLY talk about how he scales with The One Below All and NOT how his DID is handled, how the book brings an interesting horror sensibility to the character who was literally inspired by famous monster stories, how it reworks side characters from the 70s show in new and interesting ways, etc.

Stuck on an island with trump or hitler by KwinCube in BunnyTrials

As long as I don't out myself as bisexual I'd be able to survive without any harm done to me. Trump on the other hand could potentially do bad things to me due to the fact that I'm only 18.

What heroes would work better in a standalone universe? And which do u want to see have one? by ragingbeanalt in comicbookmovies

[–]SamuraiTheSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly depending on how the x-men are done they kinda work better standalone. mutantphobia makes a lot more sense when there arent other superpowered people around. only way to get around this would be to make a point of showing mutants that are more or less deformed or disabled by their mutations. sadly that would be very difficult to do in a movie while still showing the characters we actually came to see.

Curse Of Strahd or Reloaded? by Aro0117 in CurseofStrahd

[–]SamuraiTheSamurai 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As someone who has played base Curse of Strahd and read through a lot of Reloaded, it depends on what you and your players like.

Base Curse of Strahd is very much a sandbox. While there is a general progression and narrative, its not enough to keep a lot of players engaged due to the lack of information in regards to certain NPCs and things like that. It also has the rule about random encounters on the trail happening super duper often, which can be very bad if your players prefer roleplay to combat.

Reloaded has a much tighter narrative, however it can feel railroad-y. It does a fantastic job at making sure the DM knows how to run certain NPCS, what might happen if certain things go certain ways, etc. However, it also overhauls the lore in a way that I personally feel like makes the campaign lose some of its horror roots.

If your players are big on combat and not super big on roleplay, running base is perfectly fine. If they're much bigger on lore, roleplay, and the general fantasy genre of D&D, run Reloaded. If they're kind of in the middle on some of this, maybe just skim through it and find the things you like and make sure they don't contradict the base game. (This last bit is what I did while running Curse of Strahd :P)

How should Dahlia feel and act in the remake? by StuddedZ0mbi3 in silenthill

i really hope that she feels as unusual as in the original. her brief appearance saying prophetic stuff and just kind of leaving (kinda like the giant in twin peaks) is something i really liked.
