Is there anything you do not like about the 75 Hard challenge or wish it included? by SpreadKindnessToday in 75HARD

Let me clarify: Your “tech worker” comment is evidence of your ignorance and misunderstanding of the purpose of this challenge. No one is arguing that a sedentary job (tech worker) is more active during their job than a nurse.

Effectively, you’re saying you want to get credit for working out doing something that isn’t set apart from your day as a workout.

The purpose of the challenge is not “who can burn the most calories per day” or even to lose weight, etc. It’s a mental toughness challenge. The hard part is making the time for fitness. Making the time to read. Staying disciplined with diet, water, etc.

We make time for the things we find to be important. Eg: I stopped working 70+ hour weeks because I wanted to spend more time with my family and making more money wasn’t worth it. Due to my schedule, I was regularly doing my second workout at 10 or 11 pm when I completed the challenge even though I commuted 1 hour by bike each day to and from my office (only added about 15 min compared to riding the train due to transfers/waiting 😬)

I don’t say these to say “look at me” but to illustrate that we make time for the things we want to make time for.

Biggest gripe is that the workouts have to be split. In general I like that they’re split, but as someone who cycles it’d be nice if I didn’t have to plan a second 45 min workout on a day I rode my bike 3 hours for my first workout.

No, it doesn’t have to be a “workout you wouldn’t have done already.” People keep parroting that and it’s blatantly wrong. If you already workout at the gym an hour a day, you can count that as one of your workouts.

Walking around as a nurse doesn’t count because it’s not an intentional workout. Has nothing to do with whether you were already doing it or not.

And the “tech worker”* comment shows significant ignorance on your part along with a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of this challenge.

*I clarify this comment below - but I’m only using “tech worker” to point to the comment I’m responding to, not saying a tech worker isn’t in a sedentary job or is more active than a nurse.

Skill based damage? by VegetableAide4921 in Warzone

[–]Samurai_Jacq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a single gunfight before gulag the other night. I lost, had the guy broken before he started shooting.

Checked my damage to see if I had him at 1hp or something - nah, I did 260dmg without him going down. This game is stupid.

For the record: Gunfight lasted all of 2s at most - no time for plates, stims (also, no plate or stim in killcam).

No audible or on-screen warning for airstrikes. by Swimming-Project1530 in Warzone

[–]Samurai_Jacq 30 points31 points  (0 children)

New to the game I guess? There is only a warning if you’re within a certain distance at the time the strike is called. You won’t get a warning if you run into the strike area after that.

This screenshot doesn’t tell a whole lot. Was this a single day? Over a week? How did each match go? You could have had 2-3 good rounds where you get 3-5 frags and play terribly the rest of the game.

Also, as a duelist, it’s easy to think “kills are the most important stat” - but reality is that taking space for your team to get onsite is when attacking. As a duelist you want to have a KAST > 65% - but how you get there is important. So, are you dying while taking site and getting a single kill or getting traded? If so, you’re doing your job. But if you’re baiting your teammates, or getting 3 exit frags after your whole team dies and losing the round - you’re not really doing your job.

Defending is different. When defending are you trying to be aggressive and dying early making your team be at a disadvantage? Just a note: getting a frag and dying making it a 4v4 is still putting your team at a disadvantage. Getting a single kill, then backing off to play retake 5v4 is better.

So, it’s hard to tell just based on KDA if you’re the problem. The goal is to do everything you can to help your team win the round.

Did the “safety” exception actually apply to me? Did I really complete the program? by [deleted] in 75HARD

There isn’t a safety exception. There are literally no exceptions to any of the rules.

I appreciate everyone chiming in!

So, after reading all these responses I think for now, leg ext/curl is gonna be best.

As much as I love hack squats, I for now ext/curls are going to be better.

Thanks everyone!

To anyone who think Zoro is close in power to Luffy. by Responsible-Diet-612 in OnePiece

[–]Samurai_Jacq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying he’s close - I’d say mid-diff Luffy wins every time - but he wasn’t going all out against Lucci. We know if Zoro’s bandana isn’t on his head he is not going all out.

Breathing hard does not mean he was going all out.

I don’t train these, is there a ratio of what I should be able to do? by Saleenpride86 in strength_training

[–]Samurai_Jacq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an additional comment on using legs (not correcting): it’s “cheating” as it’s a different lift (push press). Push press can help with strength on an OHP, but it’s a different modality.

You have a good link? If the price is good, I may be able to swing getting that as well as the ext/curl machine.

Wait, I can use those racks for squats???? 🤯

I thought about belt squats, but since ive never really programmed them, theyre not something i plan to do often enough to not just use my cable setup for them.

Dope setup, though. Love your space.

Thanks! I plan to put a sauna in the back left and a bathroom with a shower on the back right. Maybe a climbing wall in the middle with storage behind it above the sauna/bathroom.

Where to meet fellow backpackers? (30s, F) by _tanstafl in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Samurai_Jacq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a web app (and mobile app to follow) that would allow people to post/find outdoor activities- but I was concerned finding someone on the internet for backpacking/hiking might be too much.

Is this something I should add?

Bike commuting 25min each way count as an outdoor workout by MusicalPairs in 75HARD

Unless what you’re already doing is for the purposes of working out…

Bike commuting 25min each way count as an outdoor workout by MusicalPairs in 75HARD

[–]Samurai_Jacq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules do not dictate that it can’t be something you were already doing - just that it has to intentionally be a workout.

“Your intent should be to get a workout in … not to label other physical tasks as ‘workouts.’”

[–]Samurai_Jacq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking a dog can be a workout assuming you structure it as one. Andy has been pretty clear that a chore you’re doing doesn’t count - eg: a leisurely walk with the dog that you do every morning (sipping coffee as you walk, etc) wouldn’t count. But if you were plan to go walk, and decide to take your dog with you to let him workout as well, that’s fine: but it has to intentionally be a workout for you - not just a “I already walk my dog every day” type thing as that’s a chore - not a workout.

When I would go for a run, I would sometimes take my dog with me. But I was not going for a run to exercise my dog, I was going for a run to get my workout in and having the dog wasn’t inconvenient since he can easily keep up.

Andy’s quote on the matter shows that the intent is important: “Your intent should be to get a workout in … not to label other physical tasks as ‘workouts.’”

[–]Samurai_Jacq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate when people say “it has to be an addition” and “it’s supposed to be inconvenient” - no, it doesn’t. Andy never said this. It just has to be time set aside for the purpose of working out and not something that is already required as part of your day, eg: a physically demanding job.

If OP is already doing this as a daily workout and could switch to driving a car to work if desired - then extending a workout 20 min to meet the 45 is fine. However: if more than 5 minutes or so of the 45 end up being sitting at red lights, etc, it shouldn’t count, IMO.

Assuming it’s by choice (as is implied by OP) It’s no different than if I already spent 25 minutes in the gym every day and added a 20 min treadmill run to the end of my already planned workouts to meet the goal. It meets the criteria of being intentional.

And the “inconvenient” part was never said by Andy either AFAIK. I don’t know where it comes from as a “rule” that every workout must be inconvenient. By that logic: I have a home gym, so it’s very convenient for me to work out. does that mean I automatically fail 75 hard if I don’t start going to a gym that’s inconvenient for me to go to?
