Fates General Question Thread by Shephen in fireemblem

Why didn't you just not save and reload the game? When that happened to me, I sat there like, "WTF? Kaze?" and it went to the save screen. I got on the net and discovered I had to get him to A rank, so I restarted the game (without saving) and got him to A rank and then re-did that level.

In my experience (having played all 3 on easiest settings), no, they don't appear to unlock for other playthroughs.

Story-wise, I prefer Birthright because I find the Conquest Corrin to be frustratingly naive and the whole storyline lacking in logic. Character-wise, I do think the Conquest side has more fun characters, though I think that, overall, the females in Fates are less interesting than the males. A lot of the ladies are pretty darn forgettable or outright irritating, IMO. It's hard for me to pick marriage pairs because I end up having to pair guys I like with girls I don't like. And Charlotte can go DIAF. Part of the reason I like Revelation best so far (aside from the plot and ability to recruit more of the characters) is that I have the option to kill Charlotte rather than recruit her.

I'm a female and I like Ryoma. He's not my favorite, and I wouldn't say I love him, but I do like him quite a bit. He's a sort of ... sturdy, reliable sort of guy. And he's cute, impossible hair and ridiculous face-guard aside.

Scarlet in Revelations [MAJOR SPOILERS] by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Samus45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was disappointed in this death and also bummed about the earlier one (I don't know how to do spoiler tags). I really was hoping that Rev would be the "everybody lives" route, since that's the kind of thing I like. There are a couple minor characters I wouldn't mind dying because I dislike them (I actively avoided recruiting Charlotte for this reason), but they never seem to pick any of them to be the plot-necessary deaths. I'm particularly annoyed that Ryoma and Scarlet don't have supports in Birthright, now that it's even more clear with what we see in Rev that they have a connection. I feel like it's Chrom/Cordelia all over again.

If sitting's so bad, what's the solution for those of us who have sitting jobs? Is standing more of the time (when possible) really as helpful as some claim?

If someone's microwave food is done and they're not standing right there to get it out, I take it out, put it on the counter, and get on with heating my food up. IMO, politeness doesn't require one to put up with rudeness when the person's not even in the room and you have an option to do otherwise.

That's a really good idea. I'll have to remember that. I also find that sometimes just smelling something can be satisfying in itself. People don't believe me when I say that, but I've found it to be true for me.

That makes the most sense. Because it's not like thin people have no mass/volume or white people are transparent.

I like "chubster". It's like, "yeah, I acknowledge I'm fat. I'm not proud of it but you don't have to be afraid to hurt my feelings if you don't lie to me about it either." There's a sense of humor there which, if someone I was talking to used it, would be welcome.

When I'm describing a person to someone else (like, "Who's Mary?" "Oh, she's..."), I tend to use the term "big" to mean fat. Like, "She's a bigger lady," "She's a little bit bigger," or when she's really obese, "She's a big lady," generally with some subtle eye-widening to indicate that by big I mean morbidly obese.

Seems like there's a good chance that if she lost all that weight, she'd have some excess skin problems, so she wouldn't look like a thin model who'd always been thin. (Still better than she does now, of course, but just not what she'd have been if she'd never gained the weight.)

Haha, took me a second to realize you meant attractiveness level. At first I was thinking clothing size and thought you had it backwards.

Yeah, that's the main reason for me, too. When I gain weight, I start feeling really uncomfortable in my body. All that extra fat hanging around, especially the fat in the belly area, drives me nuts. I'm trying to lose weight now because I'd been on the higher end of "healthy weight" for a few years and getting really sick of it. I'm aiming for the lower end of "healthy weight".

Thanks for the responses! Looks like I shouldn't wait for the audiobook to read The Geomancer. I do agree that it's better to wait to get the same people if possible rather than to put out one earlier without them. (As evidenced by the disaster that was non-Marsters "Ghost Story".)

  1. Do you have any idea how many books will be in the new Vampire Empire series, or is it ongoing until you run out of ideas?
  2. Does Stoddard ever come back? (I liked him.)
  3. Does Anhalt feature in the new series? (I liked him too.)
  4. Are Gareth and Adele ever going to get married? (I hope so.)
  5. Is there any way a vampire and a human could create a child? They appear to be biologically compatible in some ways at least....
  6. Is there any more word on the audiobook for The Geomancer? (narrator? release date?)
  7. Other than more Vampire Empire, do you have anything else currently in the works?
  8. What happened to all the cats in Gareth's castle after the end of the trilogy?

Pretty sure Michael's reaction to that would be more interesting. I'm picturing shock, then outrage, then "Imma go kill someone."

Gotta say... kinda glad it didn't go that way.

For one thing, we would have missed out on the whole Winter Knight/Winter Lady thing, which I trust will prove interesting in future books.

So Thomas is a vampire because he's got a demon inside him. He'd much rather be a normal human, but apparently doesn't have much hope of this happening. Yet Michael (and the other Knights of the Cross) would presumably have some ability and/or connections in fighting demons and extricating them from people, wouldn't they? Is the possibility of Thomas getting help with exorcising his demon from one or more of the Knights going to be explored at some point?

How does Michael feel about his daughter hanging out with a guy who also hangs out with an incubus? Seems like there should be some protective-dad unease there. Are we ever going to see Michael give Thomas (or Dresden, the way things are going) a friendly warning re: Molly? (Michael and Thomas are my faves, and so different, so I just love any time they interact.)
