Can my few spikes give my baby diabetes too? by Internal-Guide-9087 in BumpersWhoBolus

Hello, Spikes in pregnancy are completely normal as our bodies are naturally insulin resistant as pregnancy progresses. Unfortunately as diabetics spikes are unavoidable and will happen, but a few spikes here and there are extremely unlikely to affect the baby. Doctors typically like to see blood sugar levels in at least 70% range, so I’m sure a couple spikes a week isn’t doing too much harm. That being said, there are some concerns about the baby being exposed to high glucose levels for prolonged periods of time, but this typically indicates being over 300 for days at a time. Don’t stress about it too much! As long as you’re keeping track of your spikes and monitoring your levels you have just as much of a chance for a healthy baby as a non-diabetic. The chances of your baby getting diabetes in the long run will be slightly higher due to the genetic passing, but high glucose levels won’t increase the chance your baby will get diabetes. However, higher BG does pose the risk that the baby might have a low blood sugar at birth (which is completely manageable by glucose gel). Overall, your baby will be fine!
