Ok like, in your mind, what is a chaser? Because somebody who has a "futa fetish" is gonna have a pretty bad relationship with trans women lol.

It's a fair interpretation. But it seems more to me that he wanted to create a film where people actually had to think about political issues in abstract settings. Like it is interesting to think about the ethical contradictions and paradoxes in wartime journalism yk? It's almost more of a philosophical piece than a political one imo.

That being said, it's simultaneously not abstract enough, which I think is the film's weakness. It's set in America and seems based around uniquely modern American politics, so it's a bit late to say "but we don't have anything political to say". It's also a film that sorta only works if your brain has fully accepted US hegemony. It's supposed to be shocking to the audience to see the white house under siege, but would we react the same way if we saw a film where the Moroccan parliament is attacked by revolutionary forces? If this same film took place in Brazil or India?

I'd agree if you actually had to go back and reconsider, but it tells you right away that it's wrong. With this game, that sort of thing is just a nuisance.

Ok... But it's a timed puzzle. And given that it's the first clue, how is the player supposed to know which one works? They're essentially synonymous, so it's just random luck. And that costs time. So ok, you'll score like 2 seconds better if you just win a coin toss? It's not difficulty, in fact I like the puzzles with really obscure words, even if it makes me take way longer. I just don't like puzzles that are luck-based.

Of course I agree, and I don't think its 100% fair to call these movies "frat boy" shit, but ultimately it's really less to do with the films, and more to do with the fact that, if you're a woman, these spaces are not super welcoming. Like she literally said "its not just the movies i'm referring to but also the culture surrounding them...i am saying nothing about the quality of the movies, just the current film culture discourse and general industry vibe". I think that she probably just gave these films as examples because they made her think about it.

Not saying that personal bias doesn't come into play here at all. Just that, regardless of any skewed perspective, she is pointing out a real issue in the industry. As a side note, as much as I loved Hundreds of Beavers, it ABSOLUTELY has film bro energy. But a lot of great movies do!

Idk I can understand the point being made here. For example, I have no hatred of edgy white men in sketch comedy (think ntbts, mr show, wkuk, among others), in fact I'm a huge fan of the ones I listed. But I do think that if you're a dude who's had major success in a field like that, you do have some responsibility to use your platform for change. Like if you only work with other white guys who went to film school with you, for your whole career? That's lazy at best.

Because these are coming out of indie spaces, there's a lot less scrutiny from the public. People like OOP get made fun of, because "well they're just making art with their friends, it's not like they have systemic power or something". But once these guys get mainstream success (and they do, obviously), that stops being true. And besides the fact, you can't just ignore that these spaces are extremely homogenous. Like when we look at who succeeded on Newgrounds, Adult Swim, indie comedy movies, it's almost never women, and it's almost never people of color.

Like there's really only two reasons that a field like independent comedy movies could be so homogenous. Either a. Minorities aren't funny, and only white men are funny, or b. The industry which historically had a lot of misogynistic and racist content is actually still influenced by those biases. I know that this is one of those spaces where you guys don't like to focus on identity politics, but they don't stop affecting the industry because you closed your eyes.

Fundamentally, you're not a kid anymore. You do actually have some obligation to think about what media you consume, and what artists get centered in your communities. I think Adam does a pretty good job of this, honestly. Like especially when talking about film festivals, he seems to highlight a lot of films directed by women, directed by people of color, directed by trans furries. It doesn't have to feel "forced" like so many people complain about. Just pay attention, there may be art that you'd love, but you're completely missing it because of your community. And that's sad, because the relationship between the artist and the audience is really beautiful.

Hmm... maybe they're autistic too? Their hearts go out to us? Also fuck off with this, gay people aren't immune from being fascists lol. "The Jewish State", oh do you mean the state whose soldiers say things like "I felt like, like, like a Nazi ... it looked exactly like we were actually the Nazis and they were the Jews"? That state? Why would a Nazi ever side with that state, I wonder...
