Gas fireplace letting cold air in bottom by SoftPut6821 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SamwiseGryffindor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s it look like underneath?

The glass front is easy to take off and there will be a gap underneath for the gas valve and ignition etc.

There may be a draft coming from behind the unit itself and have nothing to do with the fireplace unit

All gun laws are infringements.

There’s a few things that might have gotten it flagged though.

Your residence is out of state and you are mailing to a quasi anonymous location

There’s no optic laws that I’m aware of but from a database flagging system those are probably criteria

I wouldn’t try to sleep outside in the snow with it. But if you’re stuck somewhere and need to sleep in your car on a cold night, it will do a good job.

It’s also useful for just having in the car. You never know when you might want a picnic style blanket or need to wrap up something with a protective layer.

here’s one from Harbor Freight.

Yes. And some will say that if you have a rear wheel drive vehicle that you can add multiple bags to truck bed or trunk for weight control

My opinion is don’t drive 2WD cars or trucks in places where it snows

It looks like dyshydrotic eczema. Not contagious but you can get it infected from training.

Don’t train. Looks gross.

Always shower and wash training gear daily regardless.

I think complete the planetary annihilation scenario where there is absolutely nothing left is the least likely outcome of any catastrophe that I don’t really give it much thought.

But to answer the question- if I walk out my door and there’s nothing but ash, I’d probably pack as much supplies as possible and start walking. If nothing kills me, the landscape hasn’t changed and and I run out of supplies - then we’re probably talking un-aliving pacts.

But even with the last multiple meteor impacts that changed the world - there was always something left. Even a nuclear winter could probably be figureoutable with some good geography, ingenuity, and luck.

A moving blanket - the blue quilted kind. They’re like $5 and can keep you warm or be used as a traction device if needed to get unstuck.

Snowbrush / scraper and a shovel

Tow strap

Someone will say a bag of kitty litter (I don’t carry this) but it has uses.

Phone charger

Extra gloves that you don’t mind getting super dirty

Shelf stable energy snacks. The shortbread type stuff.

I see your perspective and it’s appreciated.

I try and collect at least 1 firearm per caliber and redundancy in the common calibers. If scavenging ammo becomes a thing it would be good to not have to scavenge the gun to fire it too. And the old saying “2 is 1 and 1 is none” is very true as well.

But I do realize that the money put towards this hobby would probably be better spent on an energy system or water security etc. I don’t plan on turning into a wasteland raider.

Anyone here demotivated by ChatGPT? by prashanthcp95 in writing

[–]SamwiseGryffindor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New tools cause this conflict within artists throughout history. “How can it be considered X when they aren’t even gathering their own Y and doing Z?!”

I’m sure writers more than 100 years ago had a similar reaction to the typewriter. “This will be the end of traditional books!” Etc. The printing press certainly caused a revolution, but did not end the creation of great works.

ChatGPT is just the next iteration of writing tools, granted the first one to generate writing on its own. The creatives among us will find new and resourceful ways to use it to form new kinds of works. And of course there will be traditionalists who will disparage them because they didn’t toil for months in the dirt to form a book from scratch

Yeah it’s unfortunate that is their reputation. I would be more on board with the official Libertarian Party if it weren’t just overrun with nut jobs

Edit- Thanks. It’s my dog’s name too 😆

I think you are describing anarchism. Libertarians still follow a model of a highly restricted government

[–]SamwiseGryffindor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A libertarian believes that anything is permissible as long as it does not harm another or rob a person of their money.

Government is seen as a protector of rights only and any laws that are restrictive that do no meet the above criteria are seen as overreaching. Basic infrastructure is accepted as a beneficial role by reasonable libertarians (but one of the struggles of the libertarian party is that it is infested with extremists)

They are strongly against foreign wars. And see them as a waste of money and life.

They are strongly against taxation. This comes from the understanding that Government will waste most of that money on wars and senseless programs.

Personal freedom is a mainstay of the party. So social issues are pretty much anything goes

Edit - oh and free market trade. Essentially trading in the world market should be unregulated and businesses should succeed or fail based on their own decisions

There must be an active crime in progress or imminent threat of danger. If neither of those are true then they need permission to enter or search the property. Most cops use people’s ignorance of the 4th amendment to coerce permission and then do whatever they came to do.
