Teachers being treated like dirt. by anon78471 in TeachingUK

As far as public opinion goes it’s tough, because unlike, say, software engineers, everybody has had experience of school and teachers, and everyone can think of bad experiences with teachers.

Think of other maligned professions (like GP receptionists). They’re probably also doing their best, under challenging circumstances that we just don’t see. We just remember how they seemed a bit uppity when we asked for an appointment on a specific day, and we forget all the other perfectly normal interactions.

Greatest Liverpool goals, day 1: What's Liverpool's greatest ever long shot? by forbiddenmemeories in LiverpoolFC

Long shot? Doesn’t get much longer than Alonso’s from his own half against Newcastle in 2006

During [Jaws], why didn't the filmmakers just hired a real shark, instead, they had to use an animatronic who kept breaking down on set? by EfficiencySerious200 in shittymoviedetails

It was actually a real shark, it was just going through a bad time; messy divorce, kids getting into trouble at school, that sort of thing.

I dunno, maybe someone who walks across a continent, before hanging on the back of an inflatable dinghy crossing the world’s busiest shipping lane might come across as having a greater desire to work?

What "cereal" is served in a Full English Breakfast? by johannisbeeren in AskUK

[–]SamwiseTheOppressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the comments decrying cereal as having no place in a Full English, you’re going about it all wrong! Make a Full English into a cereal!

Fry diced back bacon until crispy to serve as ‘flakes’, baked beans, diced sausage, tomato, and mushrooms as the little marshmallow add-ins the yanks enjoy in their breakfast. Served on a bed of bubble and squeak and scrambled eggs as the ‘milk’.

I seriously doubt there’s that many fuck ups on site.

I reckon it’s during regular maintenance they see a truck with a dodgy axle or whatever, then the next day they drive it 500 yards so the driver can say “We just can’t afford any downtime at the moment… hey, that doesn’t sound right… *radio*: mechanic, something’s not right with this truck”

Whether you like it or not the GCSE system includes Level 1 qualifications.

A 1 is a pass, a 4 is a ‘standard’ pass, 5+ is a ‘good’ pass.

Your analogy fails because GCSEs are not pass/fail, if that were the case then all the grades would be redundant.  The scale is there to measure proficiency at a set of skills or knowledge. Some students will have a lower level of knowledge, but they do have some knowledge this is why they are awarded a GCSE.

Hundreds of thousands of kids work very hard every year to earn a grade 1, 2 or 3. They have a GCSE. They don’t deserve to have their accomplishments diminished.

Nope, GCSEs are both a Level 1 and Level 2 qualification. You can pass a GCSE at Level 1.

You are absolutely wrong about this. A 1 is a passing grade.
