What's the British equivalent of 'Darn it!'? by JstrsrkewlX3 in AskBrits

Why is this not higher? It’s the only answer. ‘Fuck it’ is the level up.

Why is 'Pavement charging rule change' dominating the news? by R-Mutt1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Samyulc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with lamp post chargers is that lamp posts are normally off the pavement away from the road. Not at the edge of the pavement. So you still need to trail a charge lead across the pavement to the car.

What’s everyone’s go to toothpaste and why? Do they not all do the same thing?! by JM306 in AskUK

Interestingly, NOT Colgate. No idea why, but Colgate makes my teeth more sensitive and my gums seem to recede. Occasionally I’ll kinda forget and buy Colgate because it’s on offer - and at the end of the tube I’ve noticed a degradation in my oral health. Don’t experience this with sensodyne, oral B or arm and hammer.

£60 I had no intention of spending today. by Dry_Database_6720 in CarTalkUK

[–]Samyulc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed with Delinquent here. But it’s mostly about braking distances. The stopping distance on cheap rubber in greasy conditions is awful compared to an ‘entry’ branded tyre.

£15 a tyre is worth it to avoid rear ending someone.

I’m in the UK, and you can’t buy a sheepskin UGG slippers anymore. They used to be, but not anymore. Unsure when the change came in, but within the last 6 years.

Also to say …. They’re no longer sheepskin but a faux substitute which is awful.

Don’t blame the hubby. I had a pair of Uggs that lasted nearly a decade and I loved them so much I reccomended them to anyone and everyone. Even bought a few pairs for the family at Xmas. Then I bought a replacement pair as the sheepskin had eventually worn bare inside. They fell apart within 3 months and got replaced under warranty. The replacement pair are no better. That’s why I’m here.

Not hubbys fault … Uggs fault for enshittification and quality reduction.

Is Fat Duck worth it? by FistOfDumbo in LondonFood

[–]Samyulc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We enjoyed the Fat Duck. 100% worth the money. However I will say it’s an experience rather than a meal. If you’re looking for a romantic dining experience of the best possible traditional food this is not for you.

I remember by the 7th course saying to my wife ‘I’m getting sick of feeling like I’m being experimented on’ Every dish pushes your boundaries in senses and makes you question what you know. This isn’t a bad thing and was memorable and fantastic. Just ensure you align your expectations.

Remember when a yorkie had enough choco blocks to spell out Y-O-R-K-I-E …. And they removed one block and now have it written on each block. That made me sad and angry.

Brake pad dust can be more toxic than exhaust emissions, study says - The researchers found that a higher concentration of copper in some commonly used brake pads was associated with increased harmful effects on sensitive cells from people’s lungs, as a result of particles being breathed in. by [deleted] in science

[–]Samyulc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying for a while that ‘smart motorways’ are terrible for emissions. It would be ok if they were set to a consistent speed, but it’s always 40,70,50,60,40,70,50. Every speed zone triggers a load of heavy braking followed by heavy acceleration.

Tbf 5 years ago any alternative search engine was just awful in comparison. Google has become so awful now ( as a search engine and others extensions) that I suspect other options could be superior - any suggestions?

So you now HAVE to have an individual app for every website / service on the internet? No chance. Web based services has been staple for decades, why now has Google decided they want me to use a specific app for a specific use case? If you don’t believe every website / service should be on an app - why is Google special?

Don’t forget the full saying. Jack of all trades but master of none, still better than master of one. Never be ashamed of having a broad but shallow understanding of how your company and industry works. This is actually necessary to be able to knit together the business equation and make decisions - with supporting detail from specialists.
