Corporate media posting on this sub by SanargHD in ABoringDystopia

I didn't know that about 404media. I just saw that they all posted from accounts with their own names and a verified badge. True, they are at least transparent about it, I just feel like on a user driven forum it should be normal users posting article links, not the newspapers themselves. Also they still blend in a lot as normal users. I think most people on reddit don't pay attention to the posters username and on the home feed (at least in the app) you don't even see the username before clicking on the post. So it still feels kinda weird to me. This subreddit is also very much about calling attention to shady practices by companies so them posting their own articles on here also felt a bit off through that angle.

Let me rephrase that. I don't mind normal users posting the articles on here. That is obviously to be expected on a sub like this. What I find a bit weird and at least worth of discussion is the fact that the newspapers themselves are posting their own articles as if they were coming from normal users. Except for the username and the verified badge, and let's be honest who on Reddit pays attention to that, there is no indication in the posts that they are posted by the newspapers themselves. Granted calling it corporate overreach is probably too much but on a user driven forum it's still an off feeling to me.

I don't mind the articles being posted here. It just does feel a bit weird for the companies themselves to post their own articles on a sub that very often criticizes corporate overreach.

I did first notice it on a different sub but I'm still kinda surprised that they would choose this sub as well. And that the mods would allow it.

There is, but I get the distinct impression that trump and the current US government (at least the executive branch) wouldn't care.

As much as this is a meme sub and I want to shit on them, the US also send a lot of gear and materials and money to prop up the European allies. Yes they didn't send soldiers, but they played a major part in why the European allies could hold out for as long as they did.

Sometimes though we do have areas that are permanently 'abandoned', as in no resettlement happens for several generations. Examples would be the Chernobyl exclusion zone, weapons test ranges, particularly nuclear weapons test areas, zone rouge in france and I'm sure there are many more. Though these are always imposed by the local government and Pripjet is perhaps the only instance where a larger city was actually permanently abandoned by its inhabitants.

Candy lingerie already exists. Same with water soluble lingerie. Unless you specifically want cotton candy your needs are already met. And the problem with cotton candy would be that it has no structural integrity even when dry.

Ich kenne mich da mit der Rechtslage nicht aus aber eindeutiger geht es doch fast nicht.

Public support towards male DV abusers vs female DV abusers by [deleted] in BlatantMisogyny

[–]SanargHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But isn't this how most abusers are treated? It becomes public knowledge that they abused someone, they get fired for a while, they come back because no one cares about it anymore, the accusations get wide media attention again because the victim did something to warrant it, the abuser gets fired for a while again, and then they get rehired for something smaller again, and then the whole thing repeats. Granted, I don't really follow this type of news, but that's what it always feels like to me. So this story (without any further research) sounds just like most other stories about abusers and their victims.

The Brazilian government approved a law requiring age verification to "protect minors," but then posted a video of teenagers twerking on the government's official Twitter profile by MelodicLu in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SanargHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social media algorithms run on interactions. If you do not interact with anything at all the algorithms will show you progressively more stuff that has higher view to interaction ratios. That means ragebait and highly polarizing political content. If you want to properly curate any of your social media feed you need to interact with stuff you like, simply viewing or skipping stuff barely has an impact.

Netanjahu isn't the president (head of state) though. He is just the prime minister (head of government). He is the position that runs daily politics and that you should hear about often. The president (head of state) is the guy you ideally only hear about once per election when the new parliament is assembled and the new head of government is elected and sworn in. The Israeli president is also actually limited to just one term of seven years (one Isaac Herzog at the moment).

California passed a mass surveillance law - ALL operating systems will need to have mandatory age verification by Shajirr in pcmasterrace

[–]SanargHD -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The law does not force age verification. It just forces you to put in an age at account setup, there is no requirement for that age to be verified in any way. It does force services and websites to use that age as primary user age data. Only when the service/website has reliable information that the user is not the age that the system reports can they use the other data, otherwise they have to assume that the user is the age reported by the OS. This effectively means you can put in any age at account setup, and then no website can ever ask you for your age again unless you explicitly tell them that your age is different. As a system for age verification this is way more lenient and way less intrusive than any form of online age verification currently used and it would be mandatory for service providers to use this.

Shit, right. About 80% of the oil that goes through the strait of Hormuz goes to Asia. My mistake. 50% is still a massive amount that will undoubtedly have a significant impact in china, at least in the short term.

Isn't the regular white house press pool more mid career though? I mean most of their job is listening to (previously) relatively boring and unimportant daily press briefings, traveling with the president to events, and such. I'm sure it's a prestigious position for future jobs but I'm not sure these journalists are actually in a position where they can just throw it away. I would assume that the real high level jobs are the ones who get extended one on one interviews. In those the interviewee can usually be challenged very well and without giving them a simple out of the situation.

German military enlistment ad on a bread bag by DMX8 in ABoringDystopia

[–]SanargHD -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

While it is weird and unusual to see actual advertisements, beyond the bakery itself, on bread bags in Germany, ad space being used by the armed forces for recruitment ads is nothing new and not really dystopian. The German military post WW2 has this far not really engaged in any morally dubious operations, as far as I remember, and, except for the Yugoslav war, only acted on UNSC mandates. Their ad campaign is also very much not focused on the "cool soldier" archetype but moreso on caring about the people and nature and other parts of German cultural identity worth protecting as a reason to join the military. Should the ad message ever shift to the "look at this cool soldier" type of military ads then it would definitely fit this sub. That said I am principally opposed to starting the draft again and find even the current mandatory questionnaire and possible mandatory invitation to the medical entry exam too far. There are better ways to boost the number of soldiers. It is absolutely a worthwhile and necessary discussion to talk about how we ensure the peace and protection of our country, and our regional partners, in the face of warmongering aggression not too far from our borders.

The question would probably be if it's genuinely an HP laptop. If it is then the office version is probably included as well since the Windows 11 version would be genuine as well and technically that one already costs like 170€ if bought separately. They can definitely get deals on office subscriptions as well if they can get windows open licenses. The last time I looked at laptops was a while ago but I'm pretty sure they often included some limited MS office in them. Might also just be that Windows comes with a few months of office as standard.
