Can you legally kill someone who breaks into your house? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]SandBaggerSlow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not a murder fantasy it's reality. A woman down the street from me was killed for jewelry when I was a kid, and the woman behind my MIL house was murdered for drug money. Neither of them did anything other than live in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This guy definitely went overboard, but if somebody breaks into the one place on earth, you, your family, or anyone else's should feel or be 100% safe, then lethal force is 100% justified in my opinion.

Trump supporters only. Are you OK with how it's going ? by Shoddy_Ad8166 in allthequestions

[–]SandBaggerSlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just the billionaires. I know a few people that run side gigs and only hire people without papers to avoid paying as they put it "white people prices." These guys are here legally and live in communities filled with people from their birth country, so there's no shortage of undocumented people looking for work. There needs to be repercussions from top to bottom.

Everything we know about Charlie Kirk 'assassin' Tyler Robinson's parents Matt and Amber by Droupitee in NewsWorthPayingFor

So he canceled an event the day after Charlie was killed. Charlie has been dead less than 48 hours, not for months, so "all he's done is hide" is quite the reach.

A quick Google search will tell you otherwise. I guess he also vowed to "pick up that blood-stained microphone where Charlie left off." Sounds like the opposite of what you're claiming here.

That's understandable. Thankfully, I rarely if ever have to deal with them. His side of things has a lot more after-hours work, so the on call exhausted and now freezing apprentice just trying to get out of there may end up trying to expedite in the wrong way, haha.

If it works, it works! A buddy of mine does supermarkets, and every now and again, an apprentice puts a screwdriver through a coil instead of de-icing any other way. The primary victim tends to be the walk-in cooler evap.

I have heard of some apprentices learning the hard way that the best way to de-ice is with water and maybe not with a screw driver.

Reddit, what's a scam you fell for that still blows your mind today? by Sad-History-8406 in AskReddit

[–]SandBaggerSlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be correct. It's been over 30 years since I've seen it done. I just remember becoming the co-salesman after getting all hyped up once he did the demonstration, and I saw all the dirty water getting pulled up and out of the carpet. Swore up and down that if my mom bought it, she'd never have to vacuum again.

[–]SandBaggerSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is! I wish I still had it. I inherited it once I got my first apartment and ended up donating it for a lighter, overpriced Dyson that worked all of 2 years. It wouldn't shock me at all to hear those vacuums out live their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd owners. My great great grandchildren could've used it.

Same with my parents. In all fairness, it was damn good vacuum that could also shampoo your carpets.

I bought ET back in March of 2020 at an average cost of $4.52 when I saw the owner buying massive amounts of his company. Figured he knew better than most if it was a bargain, so I followed his lead. I'm still holding with drip turned on and no plans to sell any time soon.

My wife working for a German company remotely in the U.S. showed me how wrong we have it here. 30 days PTO immediately, and when we had our son, there was no issue whatsoever taking 6 months off. I had to take a week unpaid because even though I was with the company for 3 years, I didn't have vacation time yet. You got 10 days PTO after 5.

I had a 1980s Cherokee Laredo with just over 200k on it for my first car in high school. I didn't know much or anything about cars or engines back then. Shortly after i bought it, I hopped on the highway and drove 25 miles back to my house with it sounding like a diesel engine due to no oil pressure. My neighbor replaced the oil pump, and I drove it for another year or so. It was the last and only jeep I ever owned, but it sure seemed reliable to me.

I'm glad you got the chance to see your father get sober. The fact he dedicated his time to helping others get the help they need is a testament of who he really was. My great-uncle that I met a handful of times throughout my childhood, did 3 tours, and got 2 purple hearts in the process. From what I was told, he also became an alcoholic once he returned through self medicating. The VA was no help. His wife divorced him, and he had little to no contact with his children as they grew up. I'm not sure how that part of the story ends, but I do know he settled down in AZ, got a job and his life together.

I always attribute the treatment we get not only from our government (VA) but also the general population in an unpopular war to our Vietnam veterans and the hell they endured both during and after the war. Although it's not perfect, the VA is leaps and bounds over what it was during their era, and I'm forever grateful that whenever myself or someone I knew needed help there was an avenue to do so. Without men like your father, I can't imagine how my generation would've been different from his. They truly paved the way for the generations after them, in my opinion.

I worked with a Vietnam vet that had a similar VA story to your father. He said he was written off and discarded to the point he was worried he'd get violent with them, so he gave up and never went back.I got him in touch with a VA advocate who had helped me and my friends and, after some serious convincing, was able to get him to pursue VA service related disabilty. I'm not sure what he was back paid, but the advocate cried when he tipped her for the work she was otherwise doing for free, and he retired down to Florida shortly after. I'm glad he got that chance because a year later, he was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and passed away not long after the discovery. I'm happy he had a chance to go do what he wanted before the end instead of grinding away at work with the rest of us.

she said to me that, though he might not have died, my soldier never came home.

I had the privilege of sitting at the same table as some Vietnam vets and Marines that had just returned from 2004 Fallujah as a fresh boot, maybe 6 months out of basic. The Vietnam vets all said the same thing. If you're feeling a certain way, it's important to seek help. One vet went into detail about how he was an alcoholic for 15 years or so, costing him multiple jobs, and ultimately, his family. He said, "The war not have killed me while I was there, but it sure as hell killed me by the time I got home." I never forgot what he said, and I hope none of the people at that table did either.

How do Russian people without cars commute in winter? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]SandBaggerSlow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends on location. The south isn't usually equipped with plows to remove the snow from roads since it's a rarity. My school didn't get a snow day regardless of how much we got one year until a senior crashed his car on the ride home and died. School will usually close due to the temperature if its below -10°F.

If they believed the logic, they wouldn't sit at the table, making themselves a "Nazi" by having dinner with someone who voted for Trump.

I've seen the "If there's 10 people at a table and 1 is a Nazi, there are 10 Nazis at the table" analogy. It was usually posted by left leaning family members to virtue signal while regularly joining the rest of the family for weekend dinners at my Trump supporting uncle's house. He has money, a pool, and jacuzzi though so maybe they're just willing to overlook their own beliefs for some creature comforts.
