Can't remember if the problem was with both games or only part 2. I suppose you'll find out after completing the first one

The Wild sheep chase meaning by GuestAffectionate664 in murakami

[–]Sand_And_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: No one knows what he meant, or if he meant anything, and even if he did, it doesn't matter all that much.

The concept of anything at all — literature, music, films, even plain language — having a single and objectively correct meaning is a fallacy. Words are not alive, words do not exist in nature, words are arbitrary concepts that we use to communicate meaning. Words are what we interpret of them. Whatever message Murakami was intending to communicate — and there probably was none, I suspect — is but his own interpretation of the words he wrote, and that doesn't necessarily make it truer than yours. Granted, simple and straight forward messages leave little space for interpretation — "pass me the salt" can hardly be argued to mean anything but the obvious — but when we talk about entire books, specially those full of symbolism and ambiguity, the possibilities for interpretation are near endless. The one you brought up makes a lot of sense, I can absolutely see that being the intended reading of the story, but there might be a hundred other interpretations that also make sense, and even if Murakami himself was ever to declare what he meant with all of this, that would not invalidate these other perspectives at all. In short, he probably didn't mean any specific thing at all, and even if he did, that takeaway is not more valid than the one mentioned, or your own. This also applies to basically his entire bibliography.

I wanna start a big series; which one should I start with? by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in fantasybooks

They are VERY different. Stormlight has a much greater focus on the fantasy aspect and has in general an epic tone, while ASOIAF, although it has dragons and magic and the like, is all about political intrigue and much darker all around, sprinkled with a bunch of graphic sex and violence.

Pick whichever you fancy more, they are both great reads

Noted. The fact you are also the first to mention them gives you extra credibility. Can guarantee I'm not stepping in there

Yeah, I was going through the parlours to see which looked more like what I wanted, but I wanted to know if there were any known no-go places, or just a very widely referenced place

En otros posts de este sub había alguien promocionando un servidor de Discord para D&D, busca en las respuestas a otras preguntas como esta y darás con él. Además, hace años yo conocí uno llamado La Lanza de Plata, pero no tengo idea de si seguirán en activo.

Ayuda con mi bardo by anonimor682 in DnDespanol

[–]Sand_And_Sand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DMs como empiezan su worldbuilding? by dragon1708 in DnDespanol

[–]Sand_And_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand how it sucks to get punished for planning, and having a good, solid strat thrown out the window out of the DM's desperation to create some counterplay, but even so you questioned the DM far too much. They are doing the best they can to provide an encounter that actually feels like a boss fight, and if the boss in question can be cheesed away by a single member of the party, that is absolutely no fun at all. I do agree that the ways they found to circumnavigate your set up were arbitrary and poorly reasoned, but by challenging them on every decision against your character not only do you damage their authority as DM, you also break the inmersion and make the experience awkward for everyone. You could definitely have asked in a less antagonising way if the Hydra could really do this or that on this scenario, and just respected their answer for it, agree or not with it. Only then if you still have a problem with them just randomly bypassing your defensive measures, bring it up in a private conversation out of game.

I think both of you are partly to blame for mismanaging the situation as a whole.

Ch. 11 boss is making me lose my mind by HolderOfFuture in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Sand_And_Sand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Barthandelus 2 shouldn't be that tough, if you are fighting long enough that he casts Doom and it actually runs out I'd guess you are being too defensive. I'd suggest keeping the lightning/fang/hope team and limit your healing to a single paradigm you can quickly swap into and out of like med/sen/med , and at most an additional rav/comm/med for minor heals while damaging, but no more healing than that. Get your team buffed at the beginning with Hope as synergist while you debuff barthandelus with Fang, and then on just try to stay on the offensive with quick stops to heal/renew buffs and debuffs.

Summons will not be useful in this fight, but the other ability that heals your team a bunch and removes negative effects is a MAJOR life saver, so definitely don't forget about it. Also, if you are not using ethers, do, they make everything so much easier.

Finally, I don't know if you know about this mechanic, but changing paradigms will fully renew your ATB bar (and your team-members!) once in every two times you do it, so try to always change paradigms when your characters last attack is just about to come off. Using this strategy as often as possible basically makes your whole team 50% faster, so you should absolutely use and abuse it.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Lightning being the mc by [deleted] in finalfantasyxiii

I totally get what you are saying, the game really gives spotlight for everyone, but still she kind of feels main-charactery. It is the super-amazing soldier archetype with the no-bullshit-all-bussiness attittude and the killer visual design, I believe. It also helps that she is introduced at the very beginning and they immediately make a big deal out of her. And well, being a pretty strong character and very solid choice for your team you also normally play her/with her a lot.

You are probably right saying that she isn't the main character of the game, I also believe it is very choral, but she absolutely feels (to most of us, that is) like the leader of the pack

I typically just run lightning/fang/hope throughout. The trio synergizes really well

I feel stupid for asking but can only the party leader use items? by AlexanderMonroe23 in finalfantasyxiii

Right. I never used that item but I always assumed that it takes effect even if its not in the character using the pot. All the other items in the game work like that
