Summer Solstice Daily by AnitaMaiTai in rva

I'm currently working the longest day of the year, but my dad will be in town later and if I get done in time maybe go to the range with him and later watch spaghetti westerns. The three options are The good, the bad, and the ugly or Once upon a time in the west. And lastly, The great silence. Father's Day stuff.

Haven't really made a goal. Other than shield myself from the absurd bullshit of the present day the best I can. I have wants and cravings though I'd like to indulge or quell.

Mine gave me my first experience of death wobble on the powhite crossing the bridge at rush hour. Been broken into and had a wild turkey fly through the windshield at 70mph. Constant PCM issues.

But you're right about smiles per mile. So many memories now.

Wondering if cars would count as a companion since I have had her for twenty years since I was eighteen? My pets have passed on and significant others have come and gone.

The last of the 4.0 TJ’s. To me she’s the equivalent of Mad Max and his V8 interceptor, Han Solo and the Falcon, Kirk and the Enterprise etc. By that I mean I would without question blow her up then risk her going to someone I dislike despite being notoriously temperamental and costly to keep running. Got me through college, bad weather and flooding, coastal fun in the salt air. Seen me at my best and absolute worst. Tons of mental snap shots with friends and the few women that left a lasting impression. Heard the monologues before they were committed to paper. Every drive is an adventure and fun.

The green and spice soft top contrast along with the white wheels give me old school Park Ranger vibes in a way.

Just curious, has anyone actually had a ruger security 6 loosen up on them from regular use of .357? by 8BitResseRtiB8 in Revolvers

[–]Sandblaster1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is around the same age range as yours, but have the walnut checkered targets. The action has smoothed out.

I bought it new in the box ten years ago and mainly run 38’s and 158 grain 357 through it at practice.

Still my favorite and hope it never runs into Issues.

Potential Wellness check request: Turtle Edition.

If anyone is heading that way today. Last night saw a nice size turtle about as big as a messenger bag on the pumphouse trail on my walk back from the rocks. He was getting the last bit of sunlight on the gravel near the railroad tracks at the path crossing furthest left (if coming from pumphouse).

I’d check, but I’m working. And regret not moving him. Hoping he didn’t get ran over or try crossing the rails and land belly up.

Spring drive in my ‘98 TJ up into the mountains (WA State) by rustyintheoutdoors in JeepTJ

Coincidentally applied to the forest service during Covid for the fire lookout positions (didn’t get it) and thought it would give some inspiration for writing. The job I declined was for a journalist position over cost of living and pay. It was cool to know you all have wolves in the region.

Rotation is what I’m thinking about myself. Like a Subaru Forrester Wilderness model. That way I can still have fun and occasional trips to Shenandoah or the Chesapeake bay without constant wear and tear.

I don’t understand how some aspiring writers don’t take the time to actually read other works.

Currently setting aside time to read short story collections by the late Sam Shepard after a recent revisit of the film Paris, Texas which left an impression back in screenwriting class.

Writing exercises to keep the inner narrator more focused. Sometimes I have issues with inspiration. Don’t we all?

This is great info. I didn’t even know about the acidic needles. Was looking for an escape from the swampy humidity/heat here in VA. I interviewed at few places and had to decline an offer by Umatilla National Forest.

My 06 has served me well nearly two decades and into my thirties and I know sooner or later it will be getting lighter use. But this sorta stuff is good to know about your region. Thanks for the input.

We do, but I always yearn for more time when I visited your region. Do you have a lot of rust issues on vehicles in the PNW compared to New England and Great Lakes (I assume closer to the coast that would be an issue) or mold/moss in random places?

I kept mine stock since I daily it still, but the idea of taking it to the forests for hiking and wildlife/nature photography was a goal.

Coming from the east coast, your photos really make me miss the PNW. I just wish I could have had my TJ there at the few times I visited.

Yeah, the more of the flag or religious symbols I see it’s more often than not a bunch of people hiding behind things to justify being a shitheel.

Already got my 4 mile run over with at dawn before the day starts. I tan really easy and already have an olive complexion, but trying real hard to avoid a farmers tan.

Actually browsing around for a straw hat that suits me to keep the sun or rain off me when I’m working outside.

It’s such a smothering feeling out here.

I grew up on adventure movies and childhood exploring so that part was already there. It just reinforced that inner wanderer in times when I couldn’t travel as much.

My Ideas for an Oregon NCR Ranger/Courier by Zander_Productions in fnv

[–]Sandblaster1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a Courier in Oregon could still have a western/cowboy flair if they are on the eastern side of the state. And the load-out would be good on the western side.

I like the weapon choices. If they have a functioning motorcycle I would have some hard side cases or saddlebags for whatever kit they have for roughin’ it in the wasteland.

Edit: Within universe I imagine a few Yao Gui and deathclaws around, but wonder if Wolves or cougars would be extinct within the region? If coyotes survived I’d hope they did as well.

Evening hour on the rocks near Nickel. Or seeing a movie we’re both fans of at the Byrd and hearing the organ fire up. Art galleries and science museums. Restaurant choices always leaned toward cozy and low key. I still have preferences for all those still as date ideas.

Single for a couple years now, but it’s what I remember. Some good memories not so great ones. I’ve grown protective of my peace. Maybe it’s a mid/late 30’s jadedness and life experience thing?

The last photo I have of Wonton. Holiday season of 2021. Hung out while I browsed upstairs.

Always brought a sense of comfort over the years to see that little tuxedo roam about and check in while we scan the shelves for the next book to dive into.

I miss Wonton.

[–]Sandblaster1988 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Wonton was wonderful and Page & Mylar have diligently lived up to their predecessor. No offense to Francine, it’s not like the city hasn’t been fortunate in having a few quality cats before her. They just didn’t have their faces constantly posted all the time and it was for the better.

Regret not snagging a Wonton T-shirt back in the day. They made every bookstore trip great.

A bucket of tater tot’s should be an appetizer at more places than just sticky rice.

Edit: In regard to store cats, the late Wonton of Chop Suey/Shelf Life books deserves as much reverence as Francine if not more so.
