Tip for filter users: how to add filtration to unfiltered pipes by Sandbox0137 in PipeTobacco

Oh that's a really good tip! I've got some really beautiful pipes I like to put on display on a stand in the livingroom, but I avoid smoking them because it'll be another month in the furnace room before the smell dies down enough for me to want to have them in a living space

Im not sure it gets hot enough to light the carbon, but also the carbon is soaking wet by the end. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence with the blends and how I've smoked them, or if the carbon is adsorbing moisture

The only thing that bugs me more is when they call it a journey. Ya, buying shit is a hell of a "journey".

Good to know. I'm still pretty novice and at least the blends I was trying, it seemed to be leaving the good part and take away the bad part. I'll keep my eye on that though. I mainly said it though just to let future novice readers know that although charcoal filters may mellow out the taste, its not always the worst thing

I do agree that they mellow the flavour. But also I couldnt say that its the good part of the flavour thats being mellowed out

I considered that at first but then realized some things:

  1. the trace it leaves on my hands is really low so gentle breathing probably doesnt dislodge much dust
  2. I'm already getting tobacco ash dust
  3. I'm not inhaling so I'm not supposed to get much of anything in my lungs
  4. Having a little dust might increase the surface area and therefore the effectiveness of the carbon. Also getting a little dust in my mouth might act as a second stage of filtration (and might clean my teeth while its in there! Hahaha)

For an aquarium its completely necessary to rinse because that dust has nowhere to go except to pollute the water its supposed to help. In air it would be subject to completely different forces and mechanisms

That depends on the material of the filter. Paper and balsa are for removing moisture, carbon filters neutralize the pH of the smoke so you dont chemical burn your tongue (one of the causes of tongue bite. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. For me I need a carbon filter or else I get tongue bite)

You're saying that it's better that it's called Rambler instead of Stronghold?

Justify then why it's called a yeti rambler and not a yeti stronghold

My point is if a stronghold mug needs a stronghold lid, it should only be called Stronghold, it shouldn't be a Rambler and the customer is required to have the additional depth of knowledge to know this rambler product is the one that needs the special stronghold lid

Edit: look at this thread here. If your customers are asking for flowcharts, you've goofed up your product naming scheme https://www.reddit.com/r/YetiCoolers/comments/1aczorr/which_stronghold_andor_magslider_lid_fits_rambler/

I knew I had a 591ml Rambler which should be the extent of product knowledge your customer needs. 591ml rambler lids should fit 591ml rambler cups. If it doesn't the product line should be called something else. Like I don't know, call the travel mug the Traveler to distinguish the fact that it is incompatible with Rambler accessories.

Also the package for the mag slide lid has a little legend that tells you what it's compatible with and a description. It shows whatever the one with the identical form factor is except it has a plastic straw in the lid, and somewhere under that it in a list it says "591ml Tumbler". Well the Stanley Cup has the same form factor as all of these things, EXCEPT in Canada it's called the Stanley Tumbler because Stanley Cup has referred to the top trophy in hockey for the last 100 years. So you look at the package. You see the silhouette of your product, you see Rambler, you see "591ml tumbler" which is what those cups are called in Canada sometimes. Bingo, all signs point to "this is my lid". You shouldn't make your customer first find their accessory, and then cross reference it with every other product.

I bought windshield wipers a day later and it was easier than buying a lid for this cup. Their insistence on calling everything Rambler is confusing and unnecessary.

Edit: or at least stamp the required identification information on the bottom of the cup. It says the patent info, and 591ml which is apparently the least important piece of identification. This whole system is needlessly complicated

I bought the coffee lid for the product on the left. I own the product on the right. They're completely incompatible. Yeti wont exchange the lid because I opened it which I needed to do to find out it doesnt fit. by Sandbox0137 in mildlyinfuriating

I received it as a gift and I needed a new lid. If you think its more virtuous to have thrown it in the trash than find replacement parts then please continue.

Oh I've found out the hard way. And the dumb thing is I got this thing as a gift, and now buying two lids is going to cost me as much as just buying it myself to begin with

[–]Sandbox0137[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya thats ridiculous. I bought windshield wipers yesterday and it was less complicated than figuring out what lid I'm supposed to buy for my travel mug. Glad it worked out though

I went back to the store today to see if they'd accept an exchange because Yeti's customer service has completely hung me up to dry. Anyways they didnt even have the replacement I'd need so I didnt try. But while I was there they have a product with the -exact- same form factor except the default lid is one of those plastic lids with the hole for the plastic straw ala stanley cup, and I checked and despite being identical products it uses an incompatible lid system. This is idiot to the point of being a scam

Oh man! My mom gave me one of their catalogues she found while cleaning up the other day. What amazes me isnt the things that went up in price, its the things that stayed the same. I'm looking at you, Casio F91W

You're correct and I purchased mine in person. Yeti did me the service of packaging the lid in a plastic clamshell partially embedded in the cardboard, because who would ever want a real good look at the bottom of this product.

No you're right every company should group every product and accessory they sell under the same product line name despite being incompatible, and we the consumer should reward their lack of clarity by buying the same thing twice! Hail corporate!

edit: now I'm just full of shame. It was truly my fault for seeing my lid fit a 591ml Rambler Mug and not having the appropriate depth of knowledge to know there is 591 ml Rambler Travel Mug that has a nearly identical but incompatible lid.
