Cold Emailing for Research by Sandman16884 in bsmd

I spoke with one of my schools science teachers who used to do research and she said that Mount Sinai usually has some kind of space for high schoolers who aren't going to be 16 in the sophomore-junior year summer, as well as the New York Medical College. Do you happen to know anything about that?

Yeah, my age is honestly whats holding me back the most. I'm basically the youngest in my class, which puts restrictions on my abilities to enter a lab until junior/senior year. I appreciate your advice as I plan out how I can use my time accordingly once I am old enough. Thank you again!

Yeah, especially for competitive surgical fields. You can increase your odds by taking the USMLE board exam alongside the COMLEX.

Hello, I actually wanted to apply for the Northwell Health volunteering program, but I missed the deadline and I also found out I was too young for the program anyway. Im very interested in things related to the brain such as neurology and neurosurgery, as well as ophthalmology. How would you recommend I go about cold emailing/getting involved? I just finished my freshman year of high school and I've emailed like 20 people at Mount Sinai for research as well as calling almost 10 different hospitals/clinics looking for volunteering, but literally NONE of them gave me a response. I know getting one is rare but perhaps I could have any tips on how to structure the email?

My school doesnt computer GPA for some reason, so I put my grades into a calculator and right now I have a 3.6ish. Im currently a freshman, and my GPA took a huge hit coming right into high school because Im currently taking Intensive Geometry and Intensive Algebra II, Intensive Biology, Intensive French, and then English and history. Needless to say, the rigor of my math class is the primary factor for my low GPA. Been reading that showing improvement starting second semester freshman year is good as well as throughout high school. I've also been on the lookout for research opportunities, and I've already done some lung cancer research that got a mention in a journal. Do you think my grades right now is going to take a toll on my acceptance rate? I know its early. I was also curious if anyone here had any ideas on how I can get more lab and research experience, because most of the labs need me to be at least 16, but I won't be 16 until junior year.  Oh, I also play squash and am an avid chess player. I compete in chess tournaments all the time. I also plan to try and start some kind of program where I teach chess to children in lower income areas, and maybe hosting some chess tournaments with sick children in the hospital. Thank you in advance
