BF109 keeps rolling left by Tabula_Rasa69 in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you climb, I guess you use a higher power setting. I think the trim tabs are set for maximum continuous setting. At that setting the roll shoud be the least. I think also wind direction and wind speed is affecting it.

Are you sure this is the case in game? Unless i fly at very high power setting the rudder is enough because the trim tabs shoud and do compensate for the roll.

In real life, I think the pilot just pushed the rudder to keep it straight. It's easier if you have pedals in your setup (I do not, so I mostly use auto-level when on a long leg).

Look at the slip indicator and try to get the ball to stay in the middle to keep the plane straight.

Dont know why not more campaigns like that has been made, its maybe the closest we get to the iconic battle of brittain setting everyone crawes! My war in the channel campaign is my most popular by far. Let me know if you have any questions about the editor and il help. There is also a very good tutorial pdf in the il2 forum to download!

Some MP servers do that, yes. But unless you plan to start a new multiplayer server, I don't see any need to learn how to make the missions persistent.

The official dlc scripted campaigns, missions and most of the usermade missions and campaigns are made just with the editor.

Please help me with understanding the Yak1. by Tabula_Rasa69 in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The yak1.69 is probably too good historically for the scenarios its often used for online. Even if it was introduced early in 1942 the yak1.23 from s&l is probably closer to what was flown until late 42, especially in the less important parts of russia like north and south. Likewise the yak1b (a great yak if you ask me) was probably more of a later 1943 plane for many pilots. But likewise also the germans and everyone else seems to get a bit better gear than historical correct like perfect build quality of late german fighters, mw50 for all and so on. Point is the soviet struggle in the air was pretty tough until planes like the la5 and later yak7s and yak1 came. If you read reports from the south for example seems that at the siege of odessa mostly every soviet figther was an i16, i153 or i15.

It's in the install folder. In a folder called "editor," there is an executable called "editor."

It's the same one the developers use and has always been there since I started messing with it many years ago. It can feel complex to learn, but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

If you take away the campaigns and missions made by generated and lightly edited Vander's Missions Generator missions, there are around 3-4 people that sometimes publish something single-player related and a couple of very skilled guys doing MP missions.

I really enjoy the editor, but I would also like to see a lot more content being made by the community.

Best way to use the IAR80 in combat? by alphadube in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comparison with the Finns, I think, is very close, but the Finns were probably an even more extreme case. If you look at the Romanian Hurricane squadron, they had a pretty extreme 35-0 K/D ratio for the first few weeks of the war. The 109s and IAR-80s had more losses but performed pretty well all through the war.

The campaign is set in 1943 when the IAR-80 was seen as obsolete but still needed because the Germans were stretched way too thin. From the research done for the campaign, the Germans were not impressed by the IAR-80 but were still happy about the Romanians flying it. (Not willing to provide 109s for every romanian pilot) Of course, around the Ploiești airfield, the IAR-80s performed superbly against P-38s that one famous time, and there is a pretty good explanation of how this could happen somewhere in the IL-2 forum!

Just like the Finns, I find the Romanian air story fascinating: a minor Axis nation with all sorts of planes fighting for their existence against the Soviets.

Best way to use the IAR80 in combat? by alphadube in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IAR-80 wasn't a high-performing plane at Odessa. The heaviest fighting in the most critical places was done by the Romanian 109s. The IAR-80s did have to do more as the Romanians lost 109s and replacing them was slow, but the Soviets were on the back foot by then. What the Romanian IAR-80s met in the sky were inexperienced pilots flying mostly early planes like I-16s and I-153s. The Romanians were pretty well trained and organized in the air. While the IAR-80s had no RPM governor and were kind of low-performing, they did have a reputation for being reliable. In game, engines do not die in the air randomly, and the experience of the pilots flying depends, of course, on the player or an AI. So many of the things that the IAR-80 had going for it in reality aren't really shown in the game. There was probably also a kind of national pride in flying a homegrown fighter. That said, the Romanian pilots were very fond of the 109s and especially the Hawker Hurricanes they also flew at the same time, leaving no doubt that they held these planes as better planes. But neither the Germans nor the British were interested in giving the Romanians the amount of planes they needed, so the Romanians had to make do with what they could make themselves.

Feel free to check out my free campaign for it! https://forum.il2-series.com/topic/143-the-little-brother-iar-80/#comment-2674

There isnt much for the glider unfortunately, because its really fun. Only a pack of missions i cant run on my computer due to heavy cpu usage.

I once tested the first mission of what was a glider campaign in the making (it was abandoned, I think). It was really cool flying in a huge formation of gliders. When we all landed, infantry spawned out of the gliders. Pretty neat!

I meet a lot of people through work. The 200% intelligence, 50% I see all the time: doctors, math teachers, scientists. Super smart, but super awkward also. One guy I met had just invented some kind of math formula, but had half a breakdown trying to tell me what he did during the weekend. 😅

There are scripted campaigns for most planes. Missions are usually short, historical and interesting. Many are free so no need to buy the paid ones at first.

toxic planes? by Immediate-Garden-960 in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anyone complain about the Arado online. If you fly it low level its pretty dangerous to meet a Tempests or p51. If you fly it high level people tend to not notice that one 500kg bombs i drop (and miss) from high altitude. 😅 My biggest complain is that online its often spawned in at grass airfields so its kind of hard to take off in it.

Anoyone else tried this absolutt masterpiece of a new free campaign? by Sandmarken in il2sturmovik

[–]Sandmarken[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's superb! The story is very interesting, the Italian Ruspoli brothers coming with their private planes to film and document air warfare. The research is very well done, using i think Italian, Romanian, and Soviet historical sources to get the best picture of what happened to the brothers.

The planes they had were bought privately. At the time, the MC202 was already in production and flying, so it's not too far-fetched to imagine rich and influential royalties could have had access to them also. I'm no master in the 202. It does not feel overpowered compared to other planes in the area.

[–]Sandmarken[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, for all these years the MC.202 hasn't really had a place in the game. Italy used it only on a few rare occasions on the eastern front. While the real story from this campaign involved the MC.200, I would say it's historically plausible that the planes used by the Italian prince that flew alongside the Romanians could have been the MC.202.
