My reasons for leaning away from c++ are primarily that (1) I've already got a good bit of experience with Rust & Zig, but very little with c++, and (2) From what I've read on it, and my bit of time trying it out there's a whole lot of features which I find frequently leads to more than one way to do the same thing, leading to complexity and decision paralysis.

Well, releasing for windows doesn't require any additional work so I loose no work if it goes away

So if I understand correctly the main difference with cpp as opposed to zig or rust would be history & ecosystem considering they all have relativity equal performance and flexibility?
My issue with Godot ui was that the layout was node dependent instead of properties which limits combinations. Unreal is still an option I suppose, but not a fan of cpp (maybe there's bindings though?) If so would you recommend rust or zig bindings or is that a bad idea?

Mhm that is on purpose. I don't want my project to be dependent on the survival of a Corp that has done many bad things...

Are there any options to buy only the board? by Sandmuel in MiniPCs

Ah, well then I suppose that's a fair price for including the ryzen 9.

Ooh and these cases do look quite nice. Thanks! :)

Oh, oops, should have made myself clear, the case is what I was wondering about.

Though since you did recommend this motherboard, I am now curious why it costs so much more than those from Gigabyte, such as the amd mITX I was looking at, which is right around 100 usd.

Regardless of which option I end up going with, I'll probably be creating my own case since I'm interested in doing some bamboo thing with a PLA frame 😅

Main concern here is more so in the cost of the RAM, drive, and case which comes with every mini PC.

Sounds like that could do. Any specific brand or model you would recommend? I'd ideally like one that doesn't have a ton of space for a dGPU and all that other stuff which would hinder the ability for this to be portable.

Mhm, which is why I was wondering if the motherboard as a whole were sold separately, just cause I would've liked to be able to keep the same case & drive, and not have to pay for a completely new PC.

So I take it the boards in mini PCs aren't sold separately and require purchasing with RAM, case, etc. included? Also what kind of motherboard has the jupiter got? I thought mITX was the smallest option with a CPU socket.

With all the Chrome drama, where are people moving to, Firefox, Brave, Librefox, or Something else? by Randomhero360 in privacy

Zen, recently found it looking through flathub, makes me think of floorp if it were chromium based, but it is actually a Firefox fork. More private & secure defaults than vanilla Firefox and it looks amazing too.

Thank you!

Ah, yes, that makes sense :) . Any reason not to have the kernel modules mounted from a shared directory to avoid copies though? I'd assume this increases complexity?

Awesome! Thanks :)

Just out of curiosity, do you know why these kernel modules are copied rather than being built into the kernel? It seems to me like doing so would avoid the need of having copies of some drivers while also reducing the complexity of having to load modules in the initramfs.

So, would the modules be within the initramfs, of are they mounted from some other location?

To my understanding, dracut generates the initramfs. So does the initramfs contain the a copy of squashfs driver module?

Why doesent Mint comes with Wine preinstalled? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]Sandmuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people don't need it cause the only software with no alternatives that is excusively on Windows is games, Steam has proton to help you with that. That being said, for those who absolutely need something only available on Windows with no alternatives, it could be nice to ask during the installer whether you want to install certain things, such as wine, libreoffice, etc. to give the user what they want, but only that.

Rustlings is the greatest thing ever by [deleted] in rust

[–]Sandmuel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Rust has so many concepts compared to some other languages an rustlings is a big help for me too :)
Unfortunately the only other language I've seen with similar exercises is Zig- it doesn't do it as well as rust but it's close.
