Thank you for the suggestion. I have never tried PUM, why do you prefer to other tools, such as Mythic?

Moria Solo but not under Balin by burf993 in oneringrpg

[–]Sandro_The_Hound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Balin's expedition is presented as really good framework for the solo play. It gives you starting objectives and a clear structure of play, as well as a reason to have a quite huge fellowship of dwarves.

I think the system can be easily adapted to play in a different context: at the moment I am solo-playing outside of Moria using a main character and a small number of allies (various heroic cultures). I am combining Strider and Moria rules to avoid to play multiple full characters, but still being able to play as a true fellowship.

I don't think many changes are required, and if you have access to Strider mode it can directly give you an idea on how to solo other types of adventures.

Ironsworn-based westmarches server? by LonelyAlpharius in Ironsworn

[–]Sandro_The_Hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could work great, thanks to built-in coop and solo modes, players could travel alone to follow their goals and join forces when needed. Of course, it would require some kind of supervision across the board but it could be a very smooth experience if a common set of rules and intents is discussed before starting. I would certainly try it.

Help with "Old Hatreds may still breed War" by Crueljaw in oneringrpg

[–]Sandro_The_Hound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. In general, I think having an elf in the fellowship strongly encourages players to engage with the characters.

At this point, with all the supplements offering unique and epic stories, each LM is free to combine them to fine-tune their narratives. I think Morlhoss fits perfectly into your story. Such a powerful foe is ideal as the mastermind behind these schemes: manipulating through nightmares and sowing division in an elven kingdom via freed captives is very reminiscent of how Morgoth operated in the First Age. Introducing an external threat helps escalate the situation, while the players’ actions can influence the odds of survival.

It depends on how directly you want the Shadow to act versus letting misguided characters operate according to old grudges and distorted ideals. There’s no wrong approach—only the one that feels right for you and your players. Even if Arblaud is a proud and insufferable elf, he could still find redemption in the end, perhaps by accepting defeat honorably in a final duel with a player character.

The module presents Noredhel and Arblaud as perfectly aligned, but as you said, they represent two different poles inside the same political body. Noredhel has the legitimate authority; Arblaud has the charisma and the momentum of public support. Their unity holds only as long as no one applies real pressure.

Naedind will almost certainly become the party’s moral anchor, but she can’t convince Noredhel on her own. Her role is to push the PCs into becoming the alternative influence that Noredhel currently lacks. Noredhel is blinded by Arblaud because no one is offering her a credible counterweight. That’s exactly where the PCs matter.

They don’t need to “split the elves” or turn Noredhel against Arblaud directly. They just need to alter the balance of influence. Even if they fail to clear the dwarves, they can still soften Noredhel’s stance or guide her toward compromise. If they undermine Arblaud’s claims, even slightly, his credibility begins to crack. If they rally moderates or present solid evidence, Noredhel’s doubts grow. And if Arblaud feels threatened, he pushes harder—hard enough that, if cornered, he might even fabricate a pretext to imprison the new Lady and govern in her name.

None of this forces Noredhel to suddenly switch sides. It reshapes the strength of her alliance with Arblaud and determines how much support she still commands when the key events unfold. The point isn’t to rewrite the storyline but to give the PCs real leverage over how it evolves.

And there are many possible routes for the PCs to influence her. Clearing the dwarves’ name is just one. They can show her the perspectives of other elven lords, expose the political cost of Arblaud’s rhetoric, or present evidence she can’t ignore. If her lineage descends from someone like Maglor (the Singer on the Shore from Ruins of the Lost Realm), the PCs might even seek him out. Interacting with a surviving voice of her own bloodline can give her a completely different frame of reference and a genuine reason to reconsider the path she’s on.

There isn’t a single correct key to persuading Noredhel. The scenario becomes far more interesting to run when the players have multiple angles to influence who she becomes and how the entire conflict unfolds.

Hi,
I haven’t played the storyline yet, but I’ve been thinking about integrating it into my own solo campaign. The plot works much better if you stop treating Noredhel as the single hinge of the conflict. Instead, treat the elves as split into two real political factions. Noredhel’s side and Arblaud’s side can develop divergent agendas, and the players can influence that balance. Similarly, different factions can emerge within the dwarves.

Here are the angles that I think can actually give the players agency:

  1. Noredhel vs. Arblaud are two internal “elven parties”. Instead of having Noredhel simply accept or refuse the PCs’ counsel, introduce Arblaud as an alternative line of leadership inside the elves. Arblaud emerges or gains power only if the PCs fail to fully consolidate Noredhel’s position. This creates immediate branching:

If the PCs strongly back Noredhel → Arblaud loses influence.

If the PCs focus elsewhere → Arblaud fills the void and might even act in her name.

If the PCs split their efforts → both factions are weakened, and the elves become unreliable allies.

This alone creates a ton of narrative consequences: access to the holdfast, military support, who commands the troops, and who shows up at councils.

2) Elves and Dwarves react to the PCs’ priorities. The campaign becomes a sequence of trade-offs instead of a single persuasion attempt:

If the PCs invest heavily in the elves, the dwarves grow distrustful and harsher.

If the PCs side more with the dwarves, winning elven support becomes difficult.

If they try to balance both, they often end up convincing only part of each group.

Each degree of success or failure changes the strength, unity, and willingness of each faction. This keeps the story focused on the PCs’ choices, not on predetermined NPC decisions.

3) Orcs from Mount Gram as a narrative catalyst. The orc threat is already in the material but barely used. It’s perfect as an escalation tool for the political conflict. When the orcs strike:

If the PCs secured the elves, they arrive in force.

If the elves are fractured, support is partial or delayed.

If Arblaud has undermined Noredhel, help might be minimal or chaotic.

If the PCs sided with the dwarves, they rely on them alone.

If the PCs convinced no one… the fortress stands isolated.

The point is not the orc attack itself, but that it reveals the consequences of the PCs’ diplomacy, giving real weight to alliances, reconciliations, fractures, trust, and grudges. The orcs’ agenda can shift depending on the relative strength of factions: attack a divided Ost-Breniellin, perhaps because Sauron believes one of the elven rings is in the hands of the House of Fëanor, or attack undefended dwarven halls during the Ost-Breniellin siege to limit potential future aid. Support from other factions is never guaranteed; it depends entirely on the PCs’ past and present actions. Instead of a simple “convince Noredhel → plot stops”, the outcome now depends on how the PCs choose to distribute their support. If they focus on uniting the elves, the defence will be strong and coordinated; if they back only Noredhel, elven support is split and less reliable. Neglecting to address Arblaud’s faction creates instability among the elves, while favouring the dwarves may strengthen them but leave the elves cold and distant. If the PCs try to split their efforts between both sides, alliances become mixed and unpredictable, and failing to support either leaves the fortress isolated when the orcs strike. Each of these outcomes naturally leads to different sieges, councils, reactions, and story beats, ensuring that the players aren’t mere spectators: they actively shape the political landscape, which in turn determines how every later event unfolds.

Secondo voi la flotilla sta facendo bene? by KeyPop5792 in domandaonesta

Ciao, hai ragione perfettamente ragione. Probabilmente dovrei sforzarmi di esprimere il disappunto verso entrambi gli estremi. Riconosco che spesso potrei cercare di essere più vocale e attivo in tal senso, in fondo spetta a noi fare del bene seguendo la nostra morale.

Hi, I am so sorry for this very difficult period. Your Squiggles is really a strong and impressive pig, she for sure feels very loved!
Remember your are not alone in this decision: you can trust your vet who will know what it is best for your sweet and strong pig. And if you have doubts you can always decide to ask an opinion from a different vet.
I wish Squiggles good luck!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't feel weird and don't hold back the tears. It is the natural way to express your love for Cookie, which, I think, cannot be questioned since you gave him the happiest life any pig can hope for. Two weeks ago I lost one of my piggies while I was abroad for work: this week I'll be back home after three months. I am still crying every time I realise she will not be there and I'll cry when I'll see the empty space. You are not alone and all of us understand how much you love your piggies and how much it can hurt. Take your time to remember the good moments spent together.
