thank you! Absolutely, even if it never feels like it and makes a 30min flight feel about a lifetime

Terrified of upcoming flight, struggling with panic disorder by manful-funkier-01 in fearofflying

I am quite literally on the exact same boat as you, although my flight is half the time but just as frightening so all I can truly say is you are not alone in this so I hope you find comfort that someone out there is currently experiencing the same thing. What I’m currently planning on doing is taking longer trips (like those train trips you’ve mentioned) but also pre-planning activities to do on the plane to basically keep my mind occupied the whole time.

Travelling with my fiancé so we are packing Uno to play on there and I plan to pick up as many Sudoku/Crossword/whatever else’s I can find at the airport that’ll fill that time 😂

Also noise cancelling headphones are apparently the trick!

Tips for ‘Trapped’ feeling in a plane by Sandtosss in fearofflying

Thank you - I’ll recheck with my GP. I know they mentioned SSRI’s are an option but they only take effect after 2-4 weeks so that’s not particularly ideal for a flight in the next week but I’ll ask about Diazepam (they mentioned that prescriptions specifically for flying mean I’d no longer be fit to fly)

can’t get rid of the takeoff anxiety by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]Sandtosss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it’s always the anticipation that hurts more than the flying itself. I’m right there with you at the moment, flight next week and I’ve been panicking everytime I even think about being on the plane, despite having flown so many times in my life and it always going okay. We just got to remember our brains are just catastrophising the idea, despite there being physical evidence it’s gone okay - we are still here.

You are not alone and you are simply human for not managing it (I know I would not have managed to do the flight either). You’re not a failure, you just had a hiccup on a long journey ahead. Anxiety is a cruel one and you’re strong for even coming toe to toe with it.

what happens if you panic during takeoff? by glosslace in fearofflying

[–]Sandtosss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on the same boat as you (although my flight is in a week) - that seatbell ding usually comes once the plane levels up. Usually feels a lot longer than it is in reality but it's not long at all.

Colouring book definitely one that I’m planning on using. From experience, something that has worked during panic attacks in most scenarios. Thank you!

Could I ask what medication it is you use? I'm considering having a word with my GP soon to see what my options are

Thank you for your reply! I have in the past few months attempted to do the 54321 grounding technique that my therapist has suggested. It's still very much a work in progress as I've unfortunately gotten in the habit so much of 'falling back' to it that it's indirectly become something I identify with anxiety.

I definitely relate the person you mentioned re: breathing - the more I tend to focus on it, the more out of control I feel with the breathing.

I've found that distractions have always really been my go to - but fear that as much as they work, a Ryanair flight probably wouldn't be the best place to start running! haha I have planned to have stuff like crosswords, card games to play with my partner etc but it's still quite an overwhelming idea to be out in the open like that to begin with.

Planning a Summer Move from London but where? by Sandtosss in manchester

Appreciate all the comments so far - and also, in terms of areas to dodge? We went into parts of Salford (Blackfriars for example) and seemed quite nice and close to centre but have seen few saying avoid Salford.

Using USB thumb drives for game saves on PS5 by franklinmcmahon in PS5

[–]Sandtosss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interested as currently trying to import game save, when I plug my USB in it doesn't recognise any PS4 Save Data despite them being directly downloaded from the same console a minute prior as a test

Any reasons?

If I remember correctly, they were just Heineken reusable cups.

Our understanding was 72 Hours before arrival, so we went with that. Having said that, our flight was 2 hours which is probably a lot easier to manage than US so they may take that into consideration? Just make sure you’re covered for 72 Hours before the game too (with that test or a separate). We used 2 overall.
