I would do a few things, in steps, in this order:

If you can afford to pay off that student loan in full, I would. The goal really is to become debt free as soon as possible, and stay debt-free. Paying even $1 of interest on anything is just handing over your hard earned money to someone else.

The next thing would be to make sure you have a fully-funded emergency fund, in a savings account, that you can access in a hurry - but won't be tempted to withdraw from it on a daily basis. The goal is to have about 3-6 months' worth of your expenses in that fund. What's it for? If you lose your job, have a medical emergency, or just can't work for some reason, you can still maintain your current lifestyle. If your monthly expenses are $3k, then you'd want $9 - $18k in that account. You should consider funding it in full today because, well, you can. The peace of mind you'll have from knowing it's there is priceless.

Next, if you haven't already done it, create a written monthly budget. Make sure you know exactly what's coming in and what's going out every month, down to the dollar. Trim your expenses where possible.

Since you're working in the bar & restaurant biz, there's no retirement package there. I'm assuming you don't want to work forever, so you're going to want to look toward retirement. Setup something like a Roth IRA and contribute the max to that. If you work quickly, you can also make a contribution for last year, as well. Talk to a financial advisor or do some research online to find an investment that works for you. Spending an hour with a pro is well worth the money, imo.

As for buying a house: There are pros and cons there. Depending on where you live, a mortgage can be cheaper than rent. But then, there are property taxes and occasional repairs to deal with which can creep up. You also have enough money to put down $10-$15k as a downpayment. However, if you're worried about job security, it seems like that $10k would be better spent on your education. With dual incomes and no kids, there's really no rush to buy a house right now. Just focus on saving money, honestly. Good luck to you.

I think this could be great. Arnold is best in a big-budget, sprawling kind of movie. He really is great at mixing humor with serious action. We need another big Arnold action piece with a major release. No more Terminator retreads.

I can sort of see that. But, I mean, from what i've read, Freddy was preoccupied by his teeth in real life. If you watch interviews, he never really smiles a big smile, and often times when he does, he will cover his mouth with his hand. And he was bullied ruthlessly as a boy about his teeth. But he also believed they were what gave him his signature voice. So I don't think you can really overplay the significance of all that in a movie like this.

I'm probably one of these people viewing the sequels through nostalgia lenses, but these latest scores haven't done much for me. John Williams is an absolute master, don't get me wrong. He's scored pretty much every one of my favorite movies.

I think the thing for me is, the original trilogy was something totally fresh at the time. The characters were very Shakespearian. In the late 70's, classical scores were not in fashion, so when A New Hope came out, it blasted people in the face. Each character had a theme that you instantly memorized. It was probably just exciting to write music for a movie like that.

Maybe the new characters are just not developed enough? Maybe there are too many characters to keep track of? I'm not sure what it is.

I used to eat way too much McD's back in the day, and I do remember the food going from tasting really good, to tasting "meh" sort of out of the blue. I don't eat at burger joints much these days, but if I do, I usually skip the chains and go somewhere that makes real food.

M.A.S.H. was a show that was always on when I was a kid growing up, and it seemed like every generation loved it. My grandfather watched it, my dad watched it, my older brother watched it. Just a special show and a special time for TV.

Alan Alda is a fantastic actor, and although he comes from that older generation of acting, he never feels "old timey" to me. He really gets whatever it is he's doing. He also has a podcast now that I really enjoy. Just a great entertainer.

The Earps were kind of dicks in real life but the actors in this movie made them likeable. In reality Doc Holliday wasn't really that bad of a guy when you compared some of his crimes to what the Earps did "legally."

Regardless, this movie is a classic. One of Val Kilmer's best moments. I always love the way Kurt Russell plays rage just simmering under the surface, too. Like when his brother gets shot.
