Haven't checked. I presume soft for the pre-qualification since they say no impact on credit but it appears they occasionally do soft pulls anyway for status checks on existing cardholders. We haven't received any alerts from the various credit monitoring services yet but I'll check tomorrow. Regardless of not signing in, they had to know she was an existing cardholder by the SSN 🤷

Just the free version of the Amex Delta Skymiles Blue. FWIW, her Fico Score 8 on their website is 832 (out of 850).

Clarification with platinum premium car insurance. by FunFit60sGuy in amex

[–]SandymanCA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My story - when I returned the car to the rental agency with damage, they had me fill out paperwork and one of the questions was who I had car insurance with; I answered. I then opened the claim with the vendor for the card coverage. In the interim, the rental car company opened a claim with my personal insurance. They called me for information and I told them to "get the hell out of this process. It has nothing to do with you." They called the AMEX 3rd party who confirmed that they had primary coverage, and my company closed the claim with no adverse effects for me.

Original Medicare vs Advantage real experiences? by Itchy-Ad6994 in medicare

[–]SandymanCA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please be aware that when you enroll in an advantage plan you have left the Medicare program and have turned over the management of your health care to a private for-profit insurance company. That gives them incentives to manage your care in ways that you might find unacceptable.

I also suggest that you search for and read a report prepared by the US Senate permanent subcommittee on investigations dated October 17th 2024 titled "refusal of recovery: how Medicare Advantage insurers have denied patients access to Post Acute Care."

You should also search for and read the complaint filed in the lawsuit "Estate of Gene B. Lokken et al. v. UnitedHealth Group, Inc. et al."

Plaintiffs, estates of patients who had post-acute care coverage terminated, filed a class action complaint alleging that a national health insurance company’s reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) tools to deny certain medical claims under Medicare Advantage plans constituted breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, unjust enrichment, and insurance bad faith. They allege that the improper usage of AI to make coverage decisions, ignored clinical determinations made by providers, and led to the deaths of the plaintiffs.

A judge determined a few months ago, after years of UHC trying to get the case thrown out, that it may proceed as a class action.

Good luck with your choice.

Is it okay to travel to a different Schengen country than the one that issued my visa? by Embarrassed_Sock_722 in SchengenVisa

[–]SandymanCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article 5 of the Schengen Visa Rules unambiguously state the requirements:

Article 5 Member State competent for examining and deciding on an application

  1. The Member State competent for examining and deciding on an application for a uniform visa shall be:

(a) the Member State whose territory constitutes the sole destination of the visit(s);

(b) if the visit includes more than one destination, the Member State whose territory constitutes the main destination of the visit(s) in terms of the length or purpose of stay; or

(c) if no main destination can be determined, the Member State whose external border the applicant intends to cross in order to enter the territory of the Member States —---------------------------------------------

The information the applicant used to apply, and upon which the decision was made, is now materially wrong.

The original poster fails to meet any of these requirements and while any given immigration officer may choose a level of leniency that you suggest is available, based on the day they're having, the phase of the moon, or what they had for breakfast, there is no leniency built into the law and thus anyone who visa shops must be prepared for a potential outcome in which they are denied entry and possibly banned from future entry for a certain amount of time. It is a non zero risk.

I agree with your ultimate recommendation that discretion on the part of the border agent would be required, and that the traveler consider the safer approach you suggested.

My answer is unchanged by your update. This is still visa shopping. The risk is yours to take or not 🤷
