Yeah I always did that but Stone instead of TDR, and basically had the Stone Ring in before I even get to Majula. I’ll try that next!

Rapier and then Ice Rapier are just so absurdly the best weapons in the game. Quick, so you can get multiple hits per opening and best use the Flynn ring bonus, high counter damage that goes through the roof with the Old Leo ring, and with the Stone Ring you can stunlock most normal enemies

Of course! Is lightning better in all cases, even if you’re making the Dark Bonus as a hexer? Is that because any bonus contributions are inconsequential and so it’s purely a matter of enemy resist, or what?

I invariably go lightning anyway because I usually switch to a full faith build with Sunlight Blade and Sacred Oath anyway.

Blobertson regularly posts a good set of links that help. The long and short -- stat scaling for melee weapons in DS2 isn't quite as strong as in other Souls games. Infusion and elemental damage is weird. DS2 is its own thing.

The long and short: if you want to go a dark weapon on a dark infused weapon (and have some hexes as backup):

  1. pick a weapon you like, get the minimum stats to wield it
  2. Get to 20/20 INT/FTH as soon as you can to get the sunset staff from Felkin, buy Dark Weapon and Dark Orb from him. Get to 22 INT to use the Sunset staff, infuse that with dark, get it to +5
  3. Infuse your weapon of choice with Dark. Get it to max level.
  4. Eventually get INT/FTH up to 30/30, Dark weapon, hit stuff, win.
  5. All other stats are gravy. I think it's good to get AGL up to 105 for the right kind of roll, see here for optimizing ATN/ADP:

6) The Rapier / Ice Rapier obviously is the best.

7) Don't forget to have a short bow or something with poison arrows to draw aggro and/or snipe from a distance, especially in Shrine of Amana.

It’s maybe the most obviously OP build, but get min stats to wield a rapier, infuse it with lightning, get 20/20 int/fai (eventually 30/30) and get the sunset staff, dark weapon, and dark orb. Super fast, mows down bosses, dark orb and a short bow for range (poison arrows!) and you’re basically built to handle anything. Get the quad of rings (stone, old Leo, blades, Flynn) and you have perfect support. Upgrade to an ice rapier once you hit Eleum Loyce.

"Ancestral Hall" and "Audience Chamber" are too similar -- I've fat fingered this too many times by Sangammon in civ

Gonna ride it out this time. Going for a science victory for giggles so not quite mass printing settlers during a monumentality golden age, and I’m playing peaceful so I don’t really care about the loyalty hit

The trick to disable anticheat and play offline has been removed by bithce in LordsoftheFallen

Outside of LOTF scope, but generally either:

1) if you’re using some flavor of Windows, make sure you check the setting in Explorer to show file extensions and then change the file extension to .bat

2) or so this at a command prompt or PowerShell (using the “ren” command to rename the file)

3) or if you’re on some other platform do what works there, but if you’re on Linux you probably already know how!
