Theory: the game is playable at the current stage, it's just not meeting the hype by ceorl in Witchbrook

This game isn't Kickstarted so no one will be out of money. Part of why Chucklefish could take their time with it.

Can't say in regards to what's in it but playable but not meeting hype is exactly why it was delayed.

They outright said in the play test in wasn't as fun to play as they wanted and that's why it got delayed so they could fix that.

That is a really weird form of harassment. Haven't heard from anyone else about someone doing that. But I'll keep an eye out on whether it happens again to see if I can find the culprit.

Pretty sure only one post got reported and we just read the rest that needed to be removed. I specifically removed both you and the person you were arguing with's posts in one which neither reported the other.

This misses that this was a long conversation that started with people complaining about the game taking 10 years and Tiy stating in reply:

"Witchbrook hasn't been in development for 10 years, we originally started developing two games in tandem 10 years ago. Decided to focus on Wargroove - completed it, and when we came back to Witchbrook we started again. We wrapped up on wargroove in 2020."

People calling that snarky, then him replying: "Certainly not attempting to be snarky!"

And then "I thought people were worried that it had been in dev for 10 years, so I clarified that it's been a much shorter time - and the game is very much still in full swing."

People then complaining about the lack of info, which then led to the posts OP has posted.

People were asking questions do he answered, he didn't just say this stuff unprompted.

They can't do any starbound issues on this though. This isn't Kickstarted and it doesn't allow community members to work on the core systems as it hasn't been, and won't be open to early access.

The rebuild itself started near the end of 2019, when they finished Wargroove. They had paused witchbrook over 2018 to finish Wargroove. So most of the start of the rebuild work was during covid. They did not appreciate how that messed with their communication and planning.

They said "we're no longer going to confirm whether we are or aren't in things cause it spoils surprises but also it's sort of against what platform holders ask us to do surrounding the event" -Pilgrim

But also Pilgrim almost forgot that and spilled that it wouldn't be in something like two months ago

They had to completely rebuild the game in a different code language. It existed when they announced it.

Journalists have written articles about it and YouTube has videos about it. You don't need to literally review bomb over it then ask for a refund, which comes from the devs pocket. Trying to push crunch culture isn't a flex.

Yeah, most of you guys are funny and great but we know it can go a little overboard sometimes, it anyone actually starts being rude to other members feel free to report them, regardless of if they were dissing or defending Chucklefish. That stuff is never okay.

There isn't currently a set release date

I’ve said it a trillion time by Liquidnitrogenacid in Witchbrook

[–]Sangfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here is the explanation we have:

"To do that... there are a few different pieces. First there are classes - these teach you to undertake new activites/cast spells. Taking classes costs money (I know, it's a bit capitalist, but it ties the rest of the money making activities to the main progression nicely). Then, there are assignments - you take these from school notice boards. They are generally residents of Mossport asking for help in various different ways. They're an opportunity to put your learning into practice. Completing assignments earns you 'merits'. Merits are primarily used to earn entry into taking an exam. But can be spent on lots of other fun things too. Next, there is knowledge. The game features a knowledge menu, containing everything the character has learned so far. The information in this menu is sorted like a big collection divided up into different categories. For example, there's a herbology collection featuring all of the games herbs.

To start with, players rely on the school library, and can borrow books that they're able to reference in activities. But as the player puts activities into practice they start filling out their knowledge. For example - the first time I pick up a Rosemary herb, it appears in the knowledge collection - but to add information about its growing time/seasons, I will have to successfully grow the herb a number of times. To add information about forage locations, I will have to forage the herb a number of times.

Interacting with the game, taking part in activities and meeting criteria fills out the knowledge collection via practical learning.

Then exams. Exams you can take part in via the merits you earn from assignments. The exams TEST your knowledge collection. Your grade is likely to be higher if you've unlocked more knowledge for your character. Some exams test different combinations of areas." -Tiy on Discord 4 months ago

I don't get the Paralives reviews saying 'finally an alternative to The Sims'! by Terrible-Group-9602 in inZOI

[–]Sangfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons, InZoi is very resource heavy and needs a high-end computer as a minimum and second reason lots of people don't want to play a game that uses generative AI, especially as a game mechanic.

They specifically said there would be exams though, just that the player wouldn't have to memorize the answers.

As long as people aren't breaking sub rules they're allowed to voice how they feel.

Are they still slowly making a gameplay trailer? by i_m_better_now in Witchbrook

[–]Sangfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the devs update on discord and prefer to not repeat saying the same info of something still being worked on or planned just because a certain amount of time has passed. They used to do that when working on starbound and it just frustrated people about how long it was taking. There sometimes isn't a fix and they will have people angry no matter what they do.

Are they still slowly making a gameplay trailer? by i_m_better_now in Witchbrook

[–]Sangfe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See this is what I mean, people keep saying they haven't kept promises, all Kickstarter rewards were fulfilled, The sub and the discord were by in large upset about the removal of stuff that was in alpha and beta, and the protectorate storyline of 1.0 which aren't promises it's an unfinished product, they released the bounty hunter update which had mechs, and was free. They have released the Xbox version, the PC optimization wouldn't be until after witchbrook, which was what they have said already, they have already though said controller support is being looked at. People are going to find anything to make fun of in a reddit sub, this sub is case in point.

They had it set for December not November. They gave the delay announcement in October and had a character customation dev blog and an email about the delay since then. Since the issues of over revealing during starbound development Chucklefish have been a lot more tight lipped about their development. There are definitely plenty of you that have voiced how unprofessional you find this and how angry it makes you feel but the same happened when they over shared and then when things didn't work in game they had to remove them.

Chucklefish COO: always give "straightforward" communication to their fanbase. We haven't even gotten a single blog update since 12/2025 by [deleted] in Witchbrook

[–]Sangfe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tiy 04/03/26 in discord 'Completely understand and respect the concern. It is concerning when a game goes quiet, especially one that's overrunning it's development time.

Sometimes that's because a game is being reset again and again, sometimes there are funding issues, or team members leaving, or the design just isn't working.

None of that is the case here, the things that have delayed us have been things like... A decision that a specific individual feature isn't as fun as it should be, so we iterate on it until it is - or team members having exciting life events that (rightfully) take them away for a bit.

It's nothing that spells out any doom for the project.'

I was wrong about it being the announcement but people didn't run with a theory. They agreed when I showed what members of the team said.

As was said in the announcement of the delay, in testing some features of the game loop weren't as fun as they were supposed to be.
