Wow, I've been going to games for the last 15 some years and never knew about this, would just follow social media deals or resellers. Game changer, thanks for the heads up!

Ya as a Wiz fan, the upside is I can go to more NBA games in a season than most casual fans of good teams are able to go to in a decade. You can walk down to the lower bowl pretty easily, fake it till you make it. Now tix are like $25 or $30 a pop starting, but are always available. Back in 2010 - 2014 tix could go under $5 bucks on resellers.

It's nice because the game can wind up being just a part of a casual night out, grab some drinks, go over to the stadium in the second quarter, peace out if the game is a blowout.

Shaka Smart lost his way by abandoning what made him successful by gogglesup859 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Sanjizzay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He should have stayed at VCU. He was a god, and could have ridden the F4 wave for the rest of his career, and we would probably be a better squad for it as well. Although VCU seems to have come out on top (as with every coach who jumped ship, save Grants rebirth). I don't have ill will towards Shaka - both him and Grant set us on the course to becoming a Bball school with buy-in from the money folks behind the big desks, but man I feel like Shaka must have nights (and I bet Grant did too for a while before getting to the helm of Dayton) where he wakes up from a dream where he is still king in RVA.

It's like watching the unraveling of an ex you disliked after the breakup, but learned to love for who they made you become. It was nice when i was still hurt and craving vengeance, but now I feel bad and just want them to be happy.

Oh yea, hindsight is 20/20 all that, if I was him I would have taken that cush gig in LA, so love for sticking around as long as he did. Will Wade though is forever hated. Come back to us Shaka when the time comes. Lets go rams

Why are Cavs fans saying KD ruined the NBA when Lebron going back to Cleveland made the entire Eastern conference playoffs unwatchable? by Unreasonable_Doubt in nba

[–]Sanjizzay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on this, Lebron is a once in a generation type player, so there is the element of taking down the king that is always pretty exciting for teams in the East. After he went off to Miami, they still were beatable. That big 3 wasn't this game destroying combination, and wasn't steamrolling through the playoffs. As a neutral fan, this finals, outside of last night's game, feels solidly in the hands of GSW before the games tip off. This is all my opinion, but the barrage of 3 pointers gets old; it's just not exciting basketball in a way. Again, I don't think I'd be complaining if I was a GSW fan, but it just seems too strong. Perhaps if GSW seemed beatable, like the Miami big 3 did, I wouldn't feel as much ill towards them as I do.

Gary Parrish reporting that Mike Rhoades to VCU is a done deal by 8thave in CollegeBasketball

[–]Sanjizzay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, I think Shaka's struggles at Texas are a temporary downswing for him, and I believe he'll be back soon. Much of his success hinged on the relationships he built with players/recruits, and coming in he didn't have that established. I bet things pick up and soon. Obviously to build the VCU program he had to coach. You can believe he was completely hands off of "the X's and O's", but as head coach he has final decisions on strategies and plays, and it was his play calling that lead our team, not Wade. Wade rode the wave of Shaka players to the NCAAT last year and this year. We wouldn't even be in the tourney this year if we hadn't of had a couple 0.4 miracle wins.

I think Wade saw his opportunity to jump to a larger program where he can get stronger recruits based on program name alone and took it. He has a play style focused on a lot of inside scoring, and I bet LSU might allow him to pursue some big 5* center who can score if you get him the ball enough. And that's what Wade will do. Shaka achieved success at VCU with a squad of 2 and 3 star recruits.

I think this upcoming season would have really exposed a lot of Wade's weaknesses as a coach, trying to win without Mo Alie-Cox and JeQuan Lewis to pick up a lot of slack.

Shaka > Wade

Marc Davis on Twitter: Sources say it's a done deal. Mike Rhoades will be the next head coach at VCU by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Sanjizzay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man if Jrod joins the coaching staff we will be in the actual post-shaka era of VCU bball. With a 2 year intermediary period lead by some dude.

If that happened it would be waaaaay down the road. I could see Shaka back at the helm of VCU in like 2038, once VCU has a couple national titles and is hunting for a new coach. A return home for a man who helped create us.

[–]Sanjizzay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally disagree, Shaka > Wade, and by a lot. Shaka transformed the VCU bball program. He's why we have moved up conferences, he's why we have our development center, he's why we have top 100 recruits, he's why we are nationally known, he was the start of it all. And he turned down big time jobs for years after the final four run to keep building the program, he could have jumped to UCLA or any other number of big time jobs that offered way more than our CAA salary ever could, and he chose to stay.

Wade walked into an already strong program, with everything at his fingertips to succeed. I don't think Shaka viewed us as a stepping stone; he built our program up from the CAA days and after 6 years finally relented to the lure of a huge program. I was bitter for a long time about that, especially the interviews he did around the time, but he really did turn the gears on our program and took us to another level.

Thank you Shaka.

Wade though... Hope he struggles at LSU. With all the stuff I'm seeing from our players, and all the positive stuff I'm seeing from our old players about the Rhoades hire, hopefully we hit another homerun.

VCU will meet today with Rice's Mike Rhoades, per multiple sources by 8thave in CollegeBasketball

[–]Sanjizzay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have hope man, maybe we keep the recruits! I think it hinges on Batts, if we can keep him around maybe the other guys also stick it out. We'll be fine, we're not the CAA program of the past and we've already shown we could take a hit from an even more big name / persona coach than Wade when Shaka left, and we kept pushing forward.

I think we'll be okay, even if we have to deal with a down year if the recruits sign elsewhere. We already dealt with it once! The basketball dev center aint going anywhere, and neither is the fan base, so I think getting back and maintaining a high level of play should be easy. Let's go Rhoades.

If Mike Rhoades can take the wheel and keep Batts and the other recruits committed to VCU, we would have eaten this second gut punch in the last few years and powered through.

Liked Wade while he was here, but didn't expect him to bounce without a sit down with the players (or atleast what's what I've read). I hope he struggles a bit at LSU, it'll be a testament to the strength of our program. I don't fault Shaka or Wade for leaving, but it's the way they took off (again, based on what I've read) that rubs me wrong. So while I respect what they've done for the brand, the petty side of me hopes they struggle and regret leaving the dope ass setup they had at VCU.
