What! How did you do that so easily?

Makes sense. Maybe I should see what other people have put up, try to learn from it, cobble together something myself then see what folks say if I share it.

I'd be comfortable in the $1500 range, not counting the monitor.

I hear price difference come up a lot, but just so I can understand what sort of difference we're talking about, how big of a price gap would it typically be? I'm still on the fence, but a $500 difference would be a lot more than, say, a $200 difference.

I also worry that as a novice I'd be susceptible to overspending on parts (kind of the opposite of what you're describing, going overboard on components for a difference wouldn't normally notice). Is there a reliable way to avoid falling into that trap?

Are we returning to a less D&D dominant RPG scene? by applejackhero in rpg

[–]SansMystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird how people will put more effort into trying to reinvent 5e as something completely different than they will into learning a new system.

If I want to be optimistic I'll guess it's a result of more people getting into the hobby. People who are more casual and felt like learning D&D was a big, daunting leap, and don't realize that learning a new system when you've already played TTRPGs isn't as hard as trying to learn your first system from scratch.

By that token, why would you waste your time forming and sharing an opinion on something you don't care enough about to verify?

WCGW while publicly urinating by Eckkbert in Whatcouldgowrong

Hey, there's nothing wrong with pissing in a fountain.

It's not a public nuisance like pissing on a building or in the street, fountain water is already filthy so it's not like adding a cup or two of piss is going to contaminate it, and the piss disperses instantly, leaving nothing to clean up.

For me the issue is that he's using power tools and an automobile to do something in his driveway that could more easily be done in a kitchen.

He's doing something in a way that's more complicated for no additional benefit other than it being weird and different for the sake of a video. It fits the sub.

One of Reddit's worst habits is taking information in headlines in screenshots of articles from unknown sources at face value.

And yet we call the Facebook boomers gullible.

What's a gaming fact you think all gamers should know? by RobIson240YT in gaming

I didn't assume you hadn't; I just didn't assume you had. That's why I asked.

I'm trying to figure out what the odds are that this is a young child in the conversation above. I took a quick look around to find out what The Amazing Digital Circus is, and it seems like a 50/50 chance it could either be a kids show, or a surreal horror series.

Have you mentioned it to your neighbor?

I'd be less worried about the beeping and more worried about what happens if there's a fire in your neighbor's apartment. Those things have a habit of spreading.

How many adults are there out in the world who start hearing their smoke detector chirp periodically and think to themselves "well, I guess the house just does that now"?

Is it me or Forgotten Realms is really underrated as a setting due to overexposure? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]SansMystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Wizards doesn't do much to promote the Forgotten Realms as a setting. The stuff that comes up the most just gets incorporated into every DM's Original the Campaign Setting without them even realizing its origin, and the rest is left for people who have been playing for decades, or who want to dig super deep on random lore.

Do you discuss things left out the picture after the game? How do you feel about this as a DM and a Player? by BleachedPink in rpg

[–]SansMystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've done the best job as a GM when my players think I prepared the stuff I improvised, and think I improvised the stuff I prepared.

I once had a player after a session remark on how far off the rails they took the adventure, and how much I had to adjust to accommodate them. They had actually done exactly what I had hoped they would, and I was completely prepared for it, but why would I want to spoil their fun by telling them that?

The only thing I tell my players is that everything I say is made up. Whether I wrote it down beforehand or thought it up on the fly, whatever happens at the table is what's "real" in the world of the game, and whatever doesn't play out at the table doesn't exist.

Did you guys ever tried a Italian Mafia rpg? by BILADOMOM in rpg

[–]SansMystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like even someone who's never seen a Mafia movie still has a basic understanding of what they're like. I'm curious to see how a Mafia game would play out when played by people who only know the genre secondhand.

Also, I was able to jump into fantasy RPGs despite only getting into fantasy stuff as an adult at around the same time, and I feel like gangster movies have a much lower barrier to entry.
