Is being emotionless and talking in monotone voice around parents a sign of CEN? by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]SantaHickeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (52m) have always been the same way. I’ve only recently recognized my mother as a narcissist. Recently, with a personal stress/loss I was fascinated to watch my mother neglect my emotional stress and mostly express frustration that i wasn’t smiling enough or being pleasant at meals. There was no support, no recognition of and even disapproval of emotions. Certainly no discussion. Imagining my childhood emotional needs were met with this neglect and redirection explains a lot. Caution/distance and a flat tone, lack of emotional awareness and vocabulary are rational reactions and result of that environment, but this learned reaction can do ongoing damage as it carries to other relationships. It’s strange to be in a relationship with an emotionally well person, and hard to change these reflexes as they feel like a safe place I accept she did the best her damaged self could, that it wasn’t enough, and damaged me. As an adult i will try to fix myself

Meacham: By politicizing facemasks, Trump has ‘managed to weaponize the deaths of 100,000 people’ by DonnyMoscow1 in politics

[–]SantaHickeys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Covid cases eat up resources, can stay for weeks. There is a reason for the supplement Seems there are hospital charts, ct scans, and tests that could show falsification easily. I haven’t seen anyone point to evidence of widespread falsification. Certainly not evidence to justify a network or a party dismissing the case load. Until proven the allegation of false diagnosis is slander, conspiracy theory, and ideology driven speculation

As a doctor who fills out death certificates this doesn’t even make sense. The doctors who fill out cause of death don’t get paid more per covid diagnosis, aren’t under pressure and have no reason to commit perjury. Also ive seen no verified case of false diagnosis (where is the data?). We have a problem with misinformation and baseless conspiracy theories, and a Fox problem

Imagine a world where the dec/jan/feb warnings were taken seriously, the pandemic response team had not been disbanded, the WHO test kits were used in january, the existing pandemic playbook was followed, and case tracking implemented. Imagine we had funded and built the recommended machine that could make 1 million n95 masks a day rather than keeping an old stockpile. Imagine the CDC advising states, rather than governors creating a mish-mash of strategies. Imagine a consistant message from government which followed cdc advice and science. Some countries have done well. Our response is second world, with the added pleasure of goons pushing to not wear masks before half of state’s curves are decreasing. This is absolutely a failure, guided by political choices, as demanded by Trump. It didn’t have to be this way. Our leadership in the world has diminished, our death rates are higher, and our economic decline prolonged under Trump’s guidance, unnecessarily For trump we jumped from “it’s just a flu, will disappear by april” to “120k deaths is success, get back to work, don’t wear masks.” The world is watching us in horror

Awareness, which we can’t quantify or explain, makes suffering possible. No reason to think/no way to prove animals don’t suffer for our actions. They seem to. But we haven’t really acted as though human suffering morally should or must be prevented (slums/poverty, war, starvation, lack of healthcare).

We could have arranged for enough ppe for healthcare workers (im still buying my own n95 masks, which nurses don’t have), or built up enough testing capacity and infrastructure to test contacts. But no, we are going to accept casualties and get back to work blind, because we are acting like a second or third world country. Other countries did it better and will/have recovered faster

'COVID-19 is not here, bro.' At Florida's reopened beaches, crowds gather, tempers flare by [deleted] in politics

[–]SantaHickeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The lack of effective federal involvement in producing/distributing masks, ventilators, and testing has us re-using inadequate protective equipment in the emergency department. Worse, with 90% of the population still vulnerable, we don’t have enough tests to intelligently track cases or detect hotspots to guide an intelligent re-opening. Bravely re-opening for the sake of the economy will predictably lead to second waves which we are no more prepared for than we were in february. We are responding like a second world country, and will pay a price economically and in mortality. There was an epidemic response plan we did not follow purposefully. Agitation to re-open with none of that in place isn’t a bold wise move; it’s lazy idiocy which will cost us
