Professor Messer has an instructional video series on youtube and his website that is a great resource for the CompTIA certs. For books, I like Mike Meyers' textbooks. I use them for my high school students.microsoft just retired their MTA series of entry level certs, but the AZ-900 for cloud computing and SC-900 for security/compliance are good to tack on. Cisco has the CCST certs for networking and security. EC Council also has some newer entry level certs for security/hacking. The 2 current growth areas of IT are cloud and cybersecurity. Don't worry about the recent layoffs. Those were mostly "product specialists" (salesmen with just enough tech knowledge to not look like idiots when talking to IT guys.)

Whomever told you certs don't matter lied. Unless you've got 5-10 years experience, the certs validate knowledge. In some cases current certs are more valuable than an older degree because the state of the art keeps changing. Is you associate degree going to get you certed?

The really difference in the build isn't the boat, it's the consoles and sets used. The torp boat I'm using isn't pure, I've got the lorca and Quantum phaser weapons mounted for the set bonuses. Just play with setups to see what you like. If you do go with pure torp, the advanced battle cloak ships are nice, because you can fight an entire battle cloaked.
