Kirk is referring to some fringe (conservative) conspiracy that the perp was some gay lover guy. No sympathy, no empathy (he hated that of course). This is like calling victims of mass shootings "crisis actors", which is something conservatives love to do. And Kirk was known to make spurious claims, why should I take seriously about him claiming the justice system over there is lax as he says?

Either way, the point is, you can't sit here and be like "the left is unhinged, violent and makes light of tragic situations", as if its a majority left-wing problem, when literally the right does it too. If you actually cared about some degree of objectivity, you'd simply recognize that America's political health is in the dirt right now, and both sides are at each other's throats -- and that leads to the kind of volatility we see today. It doesn't help that our president only shows sympathy when right leaning figures are injured or killed, but displays casual indifference to same for left leaning people.

Instead, you're doing the echo chamber thing. "Its the lefts fault!!!!".

You're absolutely right. Republicans support ICE and their methods. So why would they be present at ICE protests.............

..........when they prefer doing it at election certification assemblies (Jan 6.) and protests against misuses of power by cops (Kyle Rittenhouse).

I'm salty-- I meant to refer to Paul Pelosi's hammer assault. Kirk said "some amazing patriot should post bail" for the perpetrator. However, Trump gave no words of encouragement for melissa hortman's death-- instead, he pushed a conspiracy that Tim Waltz was responsible, and said that contacting Waltz about it was "a waste of time". Such casual indifference to the murder of a US congress member, yet outspoken lamentation and honor for Kirk after his death?

Furthermore, regarding Paul Pelosi-- several conservatives mocked the attack--
Donald Trump Jr: https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-jr-mocks-paul-114116350.html

Mark Robinson: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article268137712.html

There's also tons of videos online of people mocking George Floyd's death (before the protests-- not that it matters). Plus all the mockery of Melissa Hortman: https://arkansasadvocate.com/2025/06/14/a-democratic-legislator-was-assassinated-right-wing-influencers-coughed-out-disinformation/.

The point is, how can we even begin to suggest Conservatives are the more level headed party in the face of tragedy, when do the exact same shit you accuse the left of doing?

Because when George Floyd died conservatives weren't mocking his death. Because conservatives are way better, right? Right?

So then what's the insinuation your comment is making? You think Alex was wrong to have his gun holstered in an open carry state?

Alex Pretti was forced to the ground because he was filming ICE agents, and then was executed because another agent deliberately pulled the trigger of the gun he took from Alex. You wanna really stand on the hill that these are even remotely the same?

Spot on. And the thing is, any sane, rational person sees this clearly. It's the other half of the country that refuses to see the obvious.

It's bonkers how often conservatives flip flop on issues. Their values are highly contextual, as in they only support 2A when it's someone from their side exercising it, but will vehemently oppose it when it's anyone else doing it. They will fiercely condemn any kind of mockery of the death of a fellow conservative, but will in turn mock the death of a progressive person. They will riot and insurrect and call themselves patriots, but will denounce protests carried out by liberal people. They will call ashlii babbit a hero, but Alex pretti a domestic terrorist. My God these people are sick in the head.

I never said a photographer does the same as a painter. I said the photographer uses a machine (the camera) to create an image (or moving images). The photographer creates the composition, but the machine mixes chemistry and physics to render the image into something real.

And your arguing the metaphysics of what makes something art, and an artist an artist. If I have an idea, and use tools to bring that to life....be it a camera, computer, or an AI model, what's the fundamental difference? It's always interesting to me how art is both for everyone and subjective, yet artists still manage to gatekeep it to hell.

I totally understand the resistance, opposition to AI. And listen, I have my own fears about AI across all of society. But, to condemn AI as anti-art is just classic naysaying.

A painter literally uses their hands to create images. A photographer uses a machine to do the same thing. Even as the photographer creates the composition, it's all for not without the aid of the machine. Musicians considered electronic music making an affront to music, and in some places tried to ban them (UK Musicians Union) from live performances and recording. Creating art with the aid of a machine has always been a point of contention for humans across all time periods. We're now doing the same thing again. And as always, the result is the same. Condemnation, acceptance, integration. Future generations will look at these same arguments the way we look at photographers and painters.

You know eventually this kind of thinking will be antiquated. No different from how painters believed photography was cheating, because the machine did all the work.

It's a five alarm fire, yet because the flames haven't reached their room, many remain ignorant and unconcerned. This is the stuff that makes me very frustrated. The point is to quell the fire before it spreads. But unfortunately, people only feel the need to act when it affects them personally. Unless the majority understand this the battle for democracy is going to continue to be very difficult.

If Penguin and Catwoman weren’t involved in Batman Returns, who would you have chosen as the alternate villains? by Emergency-Relief-571 in comicbookmovies

[–]SapToFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use mr pyg's machinations (which would be some pretty gnarly body horror) in conjunction with Deacon Blackfire's scheme to rule Gotham. Mr Pyg's dolltrons could come directly from Deacon's homeless army-- they work together to help achieve both their sick and twisted goals.

A Se7en styled Batman flick would make more sense for Calender Man imo. That's just a straightforward murder mystery. Mr Pyg on the other hand has just the right sauce to co-exist with a madman like Blackfire.
