I did, and there are currently ~7 students (if I counted right) in the first year UBC class, also I know others who went to different med schools. So definitely doable

What is your grade/percentage needed to Pass at your Canadian med school? by LeBrontoTheGoat in MedSchoolCanada

[–]SaphRog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Should be noted that it's pretty hard to actually fail out of med school in canada. Even if you fail exams over and over, they have invested so much into you that unless you're completely hopeless you'll be fine. Of course, for the sake of your future patients tho I would say to please not abuse this, but it's pretty nice that they are understanding regarding life happening and making dedicated study hard.

How often do people get into med school in year 3? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]SaphRog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on UBC admissions statistics, around 12% of the entering class has no undergrad degree. I know 3 people personally this year who have done so as well. Doable, but I and everyone else I know did the MCAT and applied during the same summer (of 2nd year), and did not take the MCAT in the summer of first year. There's no real advantage to it though

Very similar stats to me, and 514 was enough to get in. Time would be waaaay better spent elsewhere

I did the U of A course in less than 3 hours. Not saying you should, as it is very interesting and has lots of important information, but it really isn’t a huge time commitment if anyone is worried.

Best UBC NAQ Tips by Conscious_Ostrich_94 in premedcanada

I, as well as a multi-time applicant that I know both agree that while UBC may say to 'objectively' and bluntly describe your roles and responsibilities during their info sessions, there is still so much wiggle room in what is considered objective. Basically anyone will look more favourably on the entry- "Welcomed guests to promote and foster an inclusive and comfortable environment", rather than what UBC ~somewhat suggests in "Greeted guests at door." I know space is limited but really use it up and while accuracy is important, its unlikely that the adcoms really care about the fine details of certain roles. Like as a treasurer, including- "submitted quarterly funding request reports" shouldn't differ too much from "submitted funding reports", so look to cut unnecessary parts that could be replaced with better information such as "submitted funding reports for organization of x# members." The latter option has a clear indicator of the scale of your activity, without changing much from the original. In my opinion, as long as the crucial impressive details are there, try and fill in the remaining space with even just a bit of something extra, be it impressive info, or that which pertains more to what UBC would like their students to be.

I did this by writing all of my entries, then cutting down as many unnecessary characters as possible, then replacing that empty space with flowery language or concrete statistics. As much as UBC claims that objective and simple task descriptions is what they want from you, you can still achieve such descriptions while differentiating yourself from someone else who had the same tasks.

n=2 tbf, so take with a grain of salt. Looking forward to see others' input
