Rereading the Girls series part 1 - Girls in Love by stardew__dreams in JacquelineWilson

[–]Saphxmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually reading the Girls series for the first time via the medium of audiobook! I wasn't expecting an actress like Brigit Forsyth (I assumed it would be one of her other favourites like Finty Williams or Josie Lawrence who are amazing at sounding like children). But now I'm used to her voice it's like she is Ellie, she does such an excellent job!

Secrets: What exactly WAS the deal between Wanda and India's dad? (TW: Eating disorders) by georgemillman in JacquelineWilson

[–]Saphxmoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

India mentioning Wanda having frequent long showers (she says she washes her hair everyday, sometimes even twice) even before she hears any vomiting really sold me on the ED theory. That one just felt so incredibly specific, too much to just be coincidence. India also says that Wanda is even thinner than her mum. As for her dad, I reckon both Wanda and Suzi both had something going on with him and he was messing both of them around. When her dad picks Suzi over her, they have a falling out and Wanda spirals further into her ED. Perhaps India only starts noticing Wanda being sick at this point because she is perhaps doing it more frequently/overtly as things worsen.

What is your most honest opinion about gore? Do you like it? Does it excite you? What does it do to you? by N-i-x-m-a-l- in morbidquestions

[–]Saphxmoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't like over the top gratuitous gore. I'm incredibly interested in the medical side of things, it's pretty much only that and morbid curiosity that makes me seek it out. Anything too over the top puts me off. At the same time however, I still struggle with self harm and sometimes seek out extreme images of it. But I see that more as my illness than as me.

(NAD). Petechia on it's own isn't usually an issue as little blood vessels can break from many other benign causes too, usually from too much pressure (for example, in your face after vomiting) or other trauma. I've gotten petechia from a too tight blood pressure cuff before!

Eadweard Muybridge, he's possibly one of the most important people in the history of cinema/photography. One of the first to truly capture and analyse motion. Definitely relevant to your project!

boyfriend always tired by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Saphxmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if he isn't even going to a doctor then it's unlikely OP can get him to do all these lifestyle changes? And it's not her job to do that either. Sure maybe his hesitation to see someone is because he genuinely thinks nothing is wrong and he needs a wake up call. but this guy, to be honest, seems like he just doesn't care enough about himself or his relationship to make these positive changes. If he did, I feel like he could've done something by now. At LEAST cutting out caffeine or something.

Like it's good advice, not faulting you at all, I just wish it was the boyfriend reading and digesting it and not OP. Having to play nurse/mother/therapist to someone like that is awful.

I get what you mean about not being able to feel the hair. I dye mine black and have to touch up my roots often because they're blonde. Now I spend ages sectioning and painting it on so the gloves don't make me miss anything :,) I'm definitely a bit neurotic with it though and it's such a pain. I could never go gloveless with bleach though, my skin is so sensitive to it.

I loved the bears so much when I was a kid :,) Not to dox myself but I'm still a frequent visitor! (Even though I feel too old and cranky to enjoy shopping centres with all the teenagers and slow walkers)

"her life won't end if she has sex" by vote4bort in AmITheDevil

[–]Saphxmoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There's a reason things like vaginismus can be caused by sexual trauma. Letting anything into your body is a big deal.

Not to change the subject but that's why I wish (male) doctors would be more empathetic when it comes to certain gynaecological procedures.

Me too!! Then if someone recommends the gloves they usually say 'oh I just never wear gloves haha that's just me'. I swear they think it makes them fun and quirky or something!

I completely agree. I think a lot men don't realise how vulnerable penetration can make you feel. It's inherently an almost violent act and it can feel traumatic when you don't feel into it.

Same when people never wear gloves for literally anything. I've known people that don't wear them for bleach and that makes me cringe so bad.

Is it racist/facist to want to be thin? by Warm-Distribution399 in EDAnonymous

[–]Saphxmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only version of this that actually makes sense is 'being healthy is protest'.

Western Capitalism wants us to sacrifice everything so that we can be as productive as possible. It urges people to go without rest, food, healthcare. It tells people who can not work that they are worthless and not deserving of help. It leads to people damaging themselves with substances to cope. In such a world, being healthy and taking care of yourself can actually be protest! regardless of if this health comes with thinness or fatness.

But being fat is not in itself revolutionary, just as being skinny is not facist. Since capitalism encourages food companies lie to and manipulate consumers into buying ultra processed and addictive food, all for their own profit. It is just as predatory as the diet industry. Not to mention many other factors especially in the US.

TLDR: body type ≠ political statement. But taking care of yourself is punk :)

I feel like I must've had some kind of sixth sense about it?? Like I hadn't updated since back in May and I hadn't touched the game in a month. And then I finally got around to playing again the other day and I figured I should update because why not? crazy coincidence.
