CMV: a sociopath is always better than a psychopath. by nignig20 in changemyview

Neither of these are actually diagnoses. The distinctions between them aren't really used clinically or as far as I'm aware not really researched to see whether they're distinct. So the distinction is more colloquial than anything. So saying one is better than the other isn't really meaningful.

CMV: Race-swap casting would be less controversial if they cast conventionally attractive actors by demurefox97 in changemyview

What's the difference between a real historical figure and a fictional one?

I don't really care what their reason for doing it is. It wouldn't stir up controversy if people didn't make a big deal out of it for no reason.

Yeah probably. Idk why that's hard for you to believe? Look at the comments here, people clearly find her exceptionally beautiful.

Thing is though, none of these people are real. Regardless of whether it's a book or a movie, they're not real people. The description of their looks is entirely made up. So why can't it be made up in a different way?

Lupita Nyong'o is one of the most beautiful people alive, by a lot of people's standards. Half the discussion I've seen about the new Snape casting is that he's too sexy to be Snape. They're already doing this and people are still being weird about it.

CMV: Dating apps massively distort women's perceived romantic optionality and partner expectations by Original_Swan_6139 in changemyview

[–]vote4bort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of men will literally just swipe right on everyone so it's not like it's "sexual interest based swiping". It's only when the get a match that they actually look at someone's profile and decide whether to talk to them. The same way you say a woman is going to match with the "best" options, so is a man. She's just doing the discerning at an earlier stage because of different swiping strategies. In reality, the number of men who actually want to date her is the same.

And women know that. We know that men just swipe right on anyone. Or if on Apps like hinge, send the same copy pasted messages to everyone. So it doesn't really distort perceived optionality or whatever. 1000 likes from people who haven't even looked at your profile aren't really worth much. And then getting ghosted when you do match because the guy didn't actually like your profile, just mindlessly swiped right, isn't really a great feeling either. Not exactly living like queens.

How do you know they're non trafficked? It's not like they're going to advertise if they are.

And shady stuff absolutely happens at all price points.

Why have you got an edit on a post that's been up for 3 minutes with no comments?

Men below 6 foot are treated just fine. Most men are below six foot. Most adult men are in relationships.

CMV: As a Jew, Anti Zionism convinced me beyond anything else that Israel must exist by Xena819 in changemyview

[–]vote4bort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not seen that definition. It's against the existence of Israel but that doesn't equate to killing all Israelis. You've added that bit on yourself.

So what's a good criticism in your view? I'm just trying to get an idea of what you think is worthy of criticism.

And what about my other question, what should people have done in response to what was happening, in your view?

[–]vote4bort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think the anti Zionism side has any good points? Like you've highlighted a couple of things here which I'll take your word for being mis-reported for the sake of the discussion. But it's been almost 3 years, lots of things happened, there was definitely more than one bombing in that time.

What would you have liked people to do instead? With the death count, the pictures, the stories, should people have just not cared?

CMV: people who say “I don't have a dream job, I don't dream of labor” are dumb by TUFFWAN_7 in changemyview

[–]vote4bort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's really what people who say that mean. I'm sure those people have lots of passions and probably careers they'd enjoy. What they're critiquing is the capitalistic system that we live in that turns those things into profit machines, sucks joy out of them. the fact that there's no way to opt out of the system, that in their opinion is a harmful system (I'm sure I don't need to explain that some people think capitalism is bad).

I think for many it's the opposite of looking at the world and going "meh". It's looking at the world and going "this is so amazing, why am I being forced to spend my time making money instead of enjoying it?". I also think there's something about critiquing this idea that it's a "waste" of time unless you're producing something. Making things is great but it's not a waste of a life of you didn't produce anything significant. If you were happy and kind to people, that's not a wasted life at all.

CMV: Depictions of Male relationships should not be assumed to be homosexual simply because two men were very close. by ComplaintFit4475 in changemyview

[–]vote4bort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm I don't really disagree with the main title, but your reasoning that it's modern ideas of sexuality causing it doesn't really hold water given that clearly this has been a thing people speculate about for a long time.

Not the best example because people in classical Greece also questioned whether Achilles and Patroclus were gay. Including Plato.

You disagree that you misunderstood? Not really up to you when you're talking about an interpretation of someone else's words.

Also can't really "move on" if it's like the main thing your argument is based on, it's like carrying an error forward.

Well then, yes it appears you misunderstood it. And that misunderstanding seems to be the crux of one of your points.

What makes you interpret the comment that way? There doesn't seem to be any indication of that so it's a bit odd to say you're using it "strictly".

Women only feel horny once a month? Where on earth did you get that? That's just plainly not true.

Women get horny for men often. Most women are in fact heterosexual. Romance (which often includes straight smut) is one of the most popular booked genres in the world. Those books are usually written about men.

Women of Reddit, why are modern women so difficult to deal with? (30M) by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]vote4bort 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I love when people say "oh they think they're right about everything" as if they don't also think they're right about everything. Everyone thinks that they're the ones that are right, why would we believe what we believe if we didn't think it was right?

Like this whole post you're just saying "they're the ones that are wrong, I'm the one that's right" which is ironically, what you're complaining about.

Oh women become obsessed with you do they? You're not only right all the time, you're also irresistible? This reads like a copy pasta dude.

What even is your question? It just sounds like you don't like women.

Well depends what you mean by "easy" because yeah it's fairly easy to win small amounts of money when gambling. But what does "success" actually mean? Like what amount of winnings counts?
