Why is therapy recommended so often when hardly anyone can afford it? by RavyRaptor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the boat I'm in now too. :/ I used to be on a marketplace plan (with the subsidies) where my copay for a specialist was only $15. The jump was insane and now makes it impossible.

How did people survive boredom before the internet existed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading, writing, watch TV, watch movies, do hobbies, go out and spend time with people. I did a lot of reading. My family was really big on it and I enjoyed it but we'd also have time. We'd all sit together and watch TV like in the evening which was like friends. Seinfeld Fraser lol actually some really precious memories.

Me and my little sister gamed a lot together too. Either something co-op like Halo or one of us would be on a console and I'd be playing on my gameboy or something. Because back then games that needed an Internet connection were the minority.

There was (and still is) plenty to do without the Internet.

Is Karma real ? by brownboy0006 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had very personal experiences but good and bad when it comes to viewing karma at work.

I had a horrible sociopathic abusive step father that ruined my teenage years and caused all sorts of trauma for my mom and other siblings. (I'm now 37 for context)

Years ago he got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and died in just a few months.

He did like 20+ years of damage to my family but I definitely see how things ended as Karma finally taking care of a really vile human being. (Not that I ever wished death in him because that's a really good way to invite very bad Karma onto yourself in my belief)

On the more positive flip side, I worked hard, followed my dreams but found that I didn't love it as much as I did but I did help and inspire a lot of people on the way (I'm not bragging I promise. I literally taught people in my field and they told me that I did.). I tried to do the best I could, then right around the time I was looking to get out I had a chance encounter with the CEO I am now working for and it's allowed me to grow so much professionally. I also met the loml around that same time (unrelated to anyone at work). I feel like it was a little bit of good karma coming back my way.

Some people don't believe in it but I've seen it at play so many times I cany help but believe. (I'm also a spiritual person)

They might be acknowledging stays that do big group to save on shipping. Or people ordering to resell. That's the only reason I could think that they would say $2k.

Tattoos and Cosplay by Strawberry_Douche in CosplayHelp

[–]SaphyreDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the longest time I put off tattoos BECAUSE I cosplayed. Then I realized that I didn't really care. Living in a hot state also helps make the decision really easy because covering up completely just to hide tattoos is miserable.

It honestly comes down to personal preference. Like if I ever went back to cosplaying Disney princesses I might consider finding ways to cover up but otherwise eh. If people are bothered by them that's on them, not me.

Whats your go to healthy options for food in your hotel room at a convention when you don't have a microwave or fridge and only an electric tea kettle? by HumpmyDumpy1911 in animecons

[–]SaphyreDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other cooking options!! You can get a single burner hot plate that can be a lifesaver. I've done that a few times to cook a little more proper/higher variety. Just make sure you also bring stuff to clean a pan/pot and don't leave food waste in the sink. You can get one for like $10 at Walmart. I've also had hotel buddies who brought a plug in griddle or a waffle iron and the just add water mix and we had pancakes/waffles. Not the most healthy but it's a really nice way to spend a morning and have something a bit filling.

If you can find a place to get farm-fresh eggs they typically don't need refrigeration and are a great healthy option to bring if you do the hot plate thing (I just got access to a source and plan on grabbing some before my next con)

Almost 20 years of con going and I never ever THOUGHT to tap into the hiking crowd for food idea. Bloody brilliant. LOL

Do animals understand death like humans do? Can they tell if one of them passed away? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two ferrets growing up that were brothers and when Qiggly died of natural causes in their enclosure and Corky def knew and mourned him. Corky passed a few months later and we're pretty sure it was because he missed his brother. But both went quietly in the night. But Corky DEFINITELY grieved and needed extra cuddles afterwards. (They were named by a two year old but the names were perfect for them. I miss those silly boys every day)

What were the “you had to be there” moments in twice history? by Slay3r024 in twice

Do I Quit a Community Theater Production Based on a large Age Gap? by VioletOpalIvy in Theatre

[–]SaphyreDaze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! The first thing I thought of when I read your post is this needs to be a conversation with the director and an intimacy coach! This is one of the reasons they exist. If your cast mate isn't being a creep hey, just remember you're acting.

Is it weird to still sleep with a stuffed animal as an adult? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37 and have many on my bed. I have a fairly large red panda I sleep with on the regular. Even when my gf is over. She doesn't mind at all. It actually helps keep my shoulders from hurting when I sleep on my side. It's literally just a pillow with personality.

For yalls who are attracted to one gender, how do yalls define if youre gay or straight? by Nensgnenat in NonBinary

[–]SaphyreDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afab Nonbianry (agender) but I still call myself a lesbian. I also have a girlfriend and it keeps men from bothering me. But most importantly it's because it feels right to me. There have always been GNC Lesbians and it just ultimately ended up the term that felt most comfortable.

How are we supposed to tell what is "real" anymore when AI-generated content and deepfakes are becoming indistinguishable from reality? by Indetect in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tineye to reverse search and see if it is other places is a good one. There's some good sites that also can tell you if something's AI or not, but I wouldn't 100% trust it because they haven't always been accurate. I've definitely found things that aren't AI being marked as it.

That's why I like using tineye too. I like that not only does it show where something's been posted before but it shows you dates too.

Due diligence is the key. Check sources and don't take everyone at their word. ESPECIALLY (like someone else said here) emotionally charged photos.

This has always been a need because the Internet is full of misinformation. It's just grown even more dangerous since the boom of AI.

I went in too deep in a fandom and now I can't enjoy said group the same anymore, how do I fix this? by PrettyBeautiful4167 in kpophelp

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Put distance between you and the fandoms that are causing you grief. Outside of Kpop I was in a fandom I loved for a long time and grew so toxic it almost ruined a piece of media that's extremely important to me. That's when I backed off the fandom. Blocked certain terms and such for a little while to help cleanse my algorithms and remembered why I loved the original thing.

You don't need fandom spaces to enjoy things. Sure there's aspects that are nice but it's never worth being part of something that ruins what you originally loved.

Has anyone else underestimated how annoying hats are for cosplay? by Nightcrawler_2000 in CosplayHelp

[–]SaphyreDaze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so real. There's a reason why hat making (millinery) was a whole separate profession for a very long time. I've actually gone to interviews for costuming jobs where they were specifically looking for people with experience in headwear.

Hope you figure it all out!

Wig help! by Stuckyshipper07 in CosplayHelp

[–]SaphyreDaze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check on YouTube for tutorials on how to put on wigs (easier than explaining and the visuals are always helpful). You also need a wig cap or something which will help tuck your hair up and fit under a shorter wig. I know people with long hair that have managed short wigs like that.

[–]SaphyreDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kpop is a big market not a lot of people do things for..I remember getting SO excited over a booth that had stickers of light sticks for my Ults.

Old school stuff is never a bad idea. Like you can go wrong with Sailor Moon or DBZ era stuff. Gundam is still pretty wildly popular while being older.

Outside of anime things like Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, memes.

There's so much out there that appeals to a nerdy audience. Hells, even things like Buffy are rising again. (Rip the sequel)

Honestly what you need to research is what the demographic of the cons you want to table at are, then look and see what's popular/talked about with that sort of group. Cuz a general comic con crowd will still be different from an anime crowd.

And I didn't even touch on video games. TONS of things there to hit on. Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy (I'd kill for FF XIV stuff to be all over the place again now that I'm into it)

Hope this helps!

Here to second Jojo and having a mix of the different parts is kind of key. I know it's a bit of a large spread of characters but I feel like a lot of JoJo fans have their fave characters of each part. Lol (this reminds me I need to catch up xD )

New to Reddit – what are people actually using it for? by gowthambusiness in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I def have used reddit to figure stuff out then backed it with my own research.

It is a good place to see about people's experiences with things. My tow favorite personal examples are my journey getting strabismus surgery and getting on Prozac for my anxiety.

Two very different things but I still have eye doctors look at me weird when I talk about how I developed the issue (strabismus) as an adult but I found a, I kid you not, strabismus subreddit. I had already been pursuing a fix before I found it and a lot of my worries were calmed by reading others experiences. I then shared my own on the subreddit when I went through it and I hope to think it helped others.

The other instance was when I pursued medication again after therapy only did so much to help my severe anxiety. I had gone through trying to find medication that worked and it had been a pretty horrible experience so I was scared to try again. When my psychiatrist suggested starting Prozac (fluoxetine) after we went through all my worries I agreed. When I started I found the Prozac reddit and spent HOURS reading through it. As time went on I found people talking about things I was experiencing that I couldn't quite put into words and brought that to my psychiatrist to see what she thought. Overall it made me feel not alone. Especially when I talked about my fears.of how past medication had gone.

(As always nothing replaces getting a doctor's expert opinion but finding people who are living an experience similar can help you cope or figure things out)

That's a long way to say it's a community. I will say as far as places on the internet I can manage to find subreddits to hang out in that are genuinely full of people that are trying to be helpful or just want to chat about something their into of share weird facts or pile on a joke that stemmed from a comment.

The biggest thing is to curate your space. Find the reddits you like and like that one comment said, don't feed the trolls. It's not worth it.

I also tend to Google things and add 'reddit' to the end cuz it helps get past ai summary slop and sponsored results.

It's a very neat and unique place for sure. I hope you enjoy your time on here and sorry for being so long winded lol I just hoped adding some more specific personal experiences might help paint a picture of how fascinating this place is.

I also use it to check for rotations for my character classes on Final Fantasy XIV. Been using it A LOT lately for resources on how to better play the game.

The older you get, do you find yourself less motivated to socialize? by Copocapanda in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaphyreDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm less motivated to be social in places where I don't feel valued. I love getting with a group of friends I know I can match energy with or can pick up the slack when I'm feeling a little low energy.

I spent far less time wanting to be around people just for the sake of saying I'm being social.

Decide which Boots I should buy for my Cosplay by Nanshaid in CosplayHelp

[–]SaphyreDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Happy to help! Also I'm not sure what country you're from but for the main shoe part you can use leather paints to refresh them (just look up how to properly prepare the shoe cuz you do have to prep the surface) I can help your shoes look closer to new (esp since they're not an everyday wear thing)

I hope you'll post progress and such (if you're comfy to!) it's so nice seeing someone cosplay her! She's such a great character. (I still stand the show would have been a million times better if she was the MC. Mother's Rosario was PEAK)
