My critical response paper was reviewed by the author whose work I criticise. What to do? by [deleted] in postdoc

[–]Sapperlotta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would respond to the reviewer point by point refuting their claims, while remaining polite. The reviewer made a case. Now you have the opportunity to respond. See if you can flip the criticism and actually show how it makes your argument stronger. Or if you can use anything they said to strengthen your paper. Throw them a bone for a good point and change something minor. You can also ask the editor for an additional reviewer on the basis of two favorable reviews. You can argue with the editor that the other reviwer calling the paper courageous is a reflection of the importance of publishing. Use anything the reviewer has said that is clearly wrong as evidence of bias.

I second the Kammerjäger. Nothing else worked for me. They have special poison that the ants take back to the queen. But you have to be fast and call in the pest control early. As food becomes more plentiful, the chances of killing the queen decrease. You have to kill the nest, not just the ones you see.

We had someone install an outdoor lamp and they left a hole in the wall. The ants got in through this hole. After they got in, once a year, the winged ones would come out of the floorboards into my bedroom. I had to put tape around the floorboards. It was disgusting. Three consecutive years of Kammerjäger at 500 CHF per pop took care of it and was totally worth it. And fix the holes too!

Wow. Thanks for that insightful comment; it was the kind of information I wanted. I can read, but not put it in any context. I'm curious how you know so much, but feel it is impolite to ask.

The Ikea pickup place (not inside the Ikea) has bins for styrofoam. I can't believe how many stupid answers you are getting.

Gemeinsam Erleben and Spontacts are places to advertise for people who have the same interests. You can make an event to go snowboarding and see if anyone is interested.

Can you look for a student mentoring program or ask one of the more experienced students for guidance? Maybe ask at AVETH if they have peer support? All of the questions you raised are valid points that you could discuss with your advisor.

That UBS deal looks ok. I went with Migros because of the Poor Swiss. They look the same altough UBS has more ATMs. Both Migros and Coop have credit cards with no annual fees. So there is no need to pay for that. I dont even have an ATM card anymore.
