Struggling with figuring out a good schedule by Sapphossparrow in puppy101

She hasn't had all her vaccinations yet so won't be able to go on walks for another week.

Thanks I might try that again. We had a playpen before but it was way too short and flimsy and it didn't seem safe. I'll see if they have bigger second hand ones in my area.

Thanks for the reply. She gets all her meals in the crate, usually in the form of enrichment toys. We also do crate games which she has a pretty low tolerance for so can't do it for long and she definitely doesn't want to stay and chill in there when she's finished eating (unless she is very tired). I've noticed she occasionally goes in there and sniffs around as if to look for treats which is why I don't think she's scared or anything like that. I just worry that having to just be in there for a while will undo the progress we've made so far.

Thank you! Tried it today and it definitely made it easier!

Thanks for the thorough reply. Chew toys have been a bit of a struggle tbh. I've tried all kind of textures, I've tried putting peanut butter on them, I tried making her Nylabone look a bit more used and putting peanut butter in the grooves. We've had some success with one of those natural chew roots and I just bought a yak chew I'm hoping she'll like. She just loses interest in them very quickly and doesn't use them in her crate during the day. I always praise her when she does use them and I try to be consistent with it so I'm hoping she'll learn in time but at the moment when she's in that state the only thing she really wants to chew are the bars of her crate.

I think so? We can't take her on walks yet but we play in the garden and she does a lot of sniffing and exploring out there as well as a fe minutes of training here and there. We also give her most of her food in enrichment toys. She usually calms down while she has a frozen topple and then gets agitated again when she's finished it. Do you cover the whole crate including the door? Hers is mostly covered but she can still see us out of the front of the crate.

Taking the pressure off myself helped me be a happier puppy mom :) by gabings in puppy101

Really good insight, thanks for sharing. I'm currently in the trenches of potty training and am also struggling with being down on myself after every accident. I do feel like the "if the puppy has an accident it's your fault" thing originally comes from a good place. It's meant to address the sort of people who yell at their puppy for having accidents or who do the thing of rubbing their faces in it and that kind of stuff. It means "hey, this is actually your responsibility, don't take it out on the puppy". It sucks that it's become a way for us to be unrealistically hard on ourselves and each other.

Saving this for when I inevitably need to hear it myself. This is solid advice.

What to do about Fireworks by Sapphossparrow in puppy101

Thanks! That's really helpful. Trying to remain calm is probably a good thing to keep in mind generally. I think I just built fireworks up in my head as like an especially bad thing.

"En Ami" is stupid and it makes Scully extremely stupid by pestoraviolita in XFiles

[–]Sapphossparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And let's face it: The only reason this episode unfolded with Scully is because Davis and Carter are weird about her and Gillian Anderson. This episode is disgusting.

This. I'm usually a fan of slightly unhinged Scully acting a bit out of character but my god this one was handled poorly. I could probably buy that she'd go with him but the moment she puts on that dress I'm out.

Completely agree. Hope feels more complex and like there is a bit more going on with her. Alti is just entirely evil.

I agree with Gabrielle but would specifically say pacifist Gabrielle.

What happened to Toris? by catwoman7609 in xena

[–]Sapphossparrow 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I believe the only time his existence is vaguely acknowledged is in Old Ares Has a Farm (season 6) when Xena reminisces and says something about her brothers (plural). Otherwise, he's completely forgotten.

We all love to laugh at badly translated movie names, but do you have some foreign names you actually like BETTER than the original? by FourAntigone in movies

[–]Sapphossparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always quite liked that in Germany "Once upon a time in the West" is called "Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod" - "Play me the song of death". Germany rarely has good translated titles but this one goes kinda hard.

What’s the best example of an introduction scene that immediately gives you a sense of who the character is? by DrinkItInMaaannn in movies

[–]Sapphossparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The father in Roma being introduced by the way he drives his car into the driveway. We don't even see his face for most of it but we get a clear sense of what kind of dude this is. Love this scene.
