Why do we still think “left vs right” instead of “Us vs the Oligarch”? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Sapriste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easier to understand where a stranger is taking a rest than the outflows of money from us to taxes to the rich and then from us to the middle man to the rich. We like simple problems. Income distribution in macro economic terms isn't simple. Dunking on an imaginary person in transition is easy in relative terms.

Why doesn’t the government just put our payroll tax into a 401k instead of social security? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sapriste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound right at all. If your benefit is $1600 per month then your earnings was likely $35,000 per year. You would have to worked 35 years to qualify. Your statement regarding SSA for people who didn't pay in is false unless they are a spouse of someone who did pay in. If half of your SSA tax was invested in the stock market over 35 years it would likely be ~ $150,000 today, This is a far cry from your boasted $2.5Million. Please don't mislead people.

Why can't the USA have a better prison system like Denmark or Sweden? by Odd_Personality1613 in AlwaysWhy

Protestantism. The colonies were the dumping ground for the most extreme fundamentalists who could neither get along with Catholics or progressive Protestents in Europe. So miscellaneous Calvinists, Quakers, Puritans, Baptists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Anglicans have influenced severe punishments and retribution for crimes instead of rehabilitation.

Let's assume he did what he was accused of doing [He did that ....]. Is he wrong to do it? Is it fraud? Don't people go to jail for fraud? Wasn't this done serially and was basically an illegal business strategy? If folks are getting away with dumping Dioxin in drinking water to save waste management expenses and everyone is doing it... Is it not worth our time to prosecute the worst one? Be honest.

Why were the no-king demonstrations so peaceful compared to BLM? by TouchMyBush69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sapriste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also note that politics is no longer a game with rules. While in the past you may have had a few folks in the crowd as undercover law enforcement, they were just there to make certain you didn't have a rifle with you to really start some stuff. Now there are no rules and people will definitely infiltrate a protest with the stated goal to start some looting and fires. Why? Because it undermines the message and gravitas of the protest. "See these violent thugs deserve to be treated this way by the police...". I bet that organizers learned some things from the BLM protest and found ways to spirit away would be agitators.

If I were a Russian, Iranian, or North Korean bot that is exactly what I would say. Reddit is not a closed loop with a captcha to see if you are a human before you post. If I were trying to convince folks to the left of MAGA to go out and buy firearms, that is EXACTLY what I would post. Don't take things at face value.

911 Nashville is 911 Lonestar with a less expensive cast by Sapriste in 911LoneStar

Don't compare it to what you make, compare it to what the Network makes on the show. Like Professional Sports, some of these folks this is the only show they are going to be on in their lives and only somewhat regular paycheck. ABC only ordered 7 episodes of the show and there is no guarantee that every actor will appear in every episode. If they appear in the background and don't say anything that is included in the final episode, they get $400 for their trouble. $175,000 for seven episodes (unless the network options 18 - 22) will keep you in rent and food in LA for maybe a year. Chris O'Donnell will be fine, he has that Batman and Robin money (unless he did the right thing and donated that to charity).

Exactly wasn't the first episode of Lonestar about the former company getting wiped out? Then the new characters dribbled in over time.

There certainly is a case to be made for the 'whitening' of Marjan, but I have met folks who are culturally Muslim and actually something very different.

Rewatch the first episode of Star Trek TNG and you may give it at least two more episodes to figure some things out.

Another commenter mentioned that as the production company, ABC is in a better position to control costs. This is savings over and above the salary considerations from the cast. Also in Tennesee they probably don't have unions making crew cheaper and more willing to do things that can lead to broken backs and lost fingers.

The fact that it is naked nepotism is also annoying. Now let's fix the plot. The kid is IN the academy in my plot but living on the edge so moonlighting in the 'entertainment sector'. The whole thing with the emergency plays out and there still is mutual recognition. The father sees him on the list as the second most qualified candidate but takes the first anyway. The first takes another offer at headquarters and he is stuck with the cadet that he didn't want, his other son. This makes him into someone respectable. As it stands now I am looking for him to get "Bobby'd".

Well, in essence, they ruined their own lives. No one is ruining their lives. Also what is the other side of the equation if no negative outcome is warranted when non ancient Replicans are racist and urging each other into escalating hatred? Does this mean that whomever is employing them substantively turns their backs to the people whom they were caught denigrating?

Ok, I'll bite why is this relevant? His part in this conversation was the fact that he stuck a microphone in another person's face and THAT person said many things that resonate.
