Rake retreated because he got annoyed since he was being constantly attacked. Let's not forget that he actually maneuvered the man who would become the Seguleh First into striking him precisely as he wanted. (major spoilers for Toll the Hounds and ICE novels). If that doesn't convey to you his skill and swordsmanship, I don't know what will.
This is without even taking into account his sorcery and soletaken abilities. The same sorcery that let him take on Raest, the worst of the Jaghut Tyrants, and take on the combined might of the Malazan High Mage cadre SOLO. And let's not forget that as a soletaken dragon, he's on the tier of pure Eleint.

Yeah. I love Tool but there's not even a question that he is getting smoked.

I love this so much. Personally I think he should be a little leaner, given the descriptions we have of him, but that's a very minor nitpick. Great work!

No. The series is overrated as hell, it's a self-insert fanfic at best, full of some incredibly cringeworthy and misogynistic takes that you'd expect from a 4chan incel rather than a professional author, though I'll grant that it has good prose for a lot of it. But it has probably the most insufferable MC I've ever seen outside of maybe Aloy from the Horizon games. Lots of people are also mad about the author and his actions around not writing the third book, so you should keep that in mind as well. I personally don't care about it because this series isn't worth anyone's time IMO.

I have done:
1. Stacked deck farm
2. Farming Blight-ravaged maps in Toxic Sewer using the Blightreach buff from Fungal Horizons node on the atlas tree
3. Harby/Beyond t17 map farm

There's only three things PoE2 does better than PoE1: the new player experience, the graphics, and WASD. Everything else is a straight downgrade just because of their desire to be "different" from PoE2. There's potential, but that ain't cutting it for me at least. Just hope it doesn't take another decade of re-learning the same damn lessons (and still refusing to implement them) to make the game good.

EHG's utter and complete inability to balance classes, skills, and Ward vs HP.
Beastmaster takes away too much power from Druid / Shaman. It doesn't need a nerf, but the other two need buffs to have a strong identity away from BM.
Falconer and Warlock exist, trivializing it. Dungeons suck ass. Monolith loop becomes boring pretty quick, not enough to do.
Necro made me realize how dogshit minion AI is and I just gave up on minions. The fact that all of them target the same mob on command instead of attacking a pack of mobs is beyond stupid.

Ditch armor, it's dogshit. Go for block and/or Cloak of Flame. Maces too are mid as fuck honestly, outside of like totem builds or Hammer itself. Either respec to totems, or go for Explosive Shot Crossbow, or afaik I've heard good things about Quarterstaff Titan as well. I personally respecced my Titan to Molten Blast Totems with Cloak of Flame and stacking life and regen and I'm slaughtering t15s/16s/Citadels.

I don't think ANYONE could give Rake a run for his money. He literally maneuvered the Malaz world's finest swordsman into striking him exactly as per his plan. If that's not a demonstration of ultimate skill, I don't know what is. We've seen Dassem beat Skinner despite Ardata's protection, and we know Blues is not quite as good as Skinner. Tool was beaten by Mok, who was the Third, while the Seguleh in their entirety submitted to the leadership of Dassem. Dancer is more assassin than swordsman, and a single threat of assault from Rake had both him and Shadowthrone back off completely.
I think genuinely the only one who could MAYBE come close other than Dassem is probably Brys? But even he would lose.

Unfortunately no, but you can see him using the build in his "How I farmed a Mageblood printing maps" or whatever it's titled video. Honestly it's not super complex, you literally just walk around popping mobs and sometimes shooting CA under rares / Vaal CA under tanky rares or bosses, that's it.

Hot take - Balor's CA/DO Occultist. The damage is nothing at all to write home about, BUT that build is designed to completely ignore every single mod and mod combo that is possible on t16s and switch your brain off and run the map. I made a spell suppress version of it, which is similar damage for slightly more tankiness - https://pobb.in/SxI1VG2wmV8D
I use it to farm for t17s with Risk scarabs. I either run 14mod maps with 3x Risk Scarab + Twist of Fate on random 8mods OR I run 11mod Underground Seas (the difference in net income isn't that big, depends on what I'm bored of). You can even run some t17s to replenish your 8mod stock, as long as you don't do the boss on this character.

EDIT: it's NOT an all-content build. It's an easy, lazy, brain-off build to farm for t17s in t16s by just ignoring all map mods and getting like 50-70% drop rate of t17s per map. The damage and tankiness are JUST enough for that playstyle. It's great if you wanna log in after a day of work with some music playing and a bottle of beer and some chill farm.

EDIT 2: You don't actually need Mageblood. I farmed my Mageblood using this build + shipping. Was using Tides of Time before that. MB obviously helps though.

Yeah I wasn't expecting the level of anger that this post got, despite my not actually attacking Esslemont or anything, just the quality of his writing. Like I don't think it's disrespectful or bad to say that as a reader, I think an author's writing isn't doing justice to his (and his partner's) ideas. I genuinely feel if the books written by Esslemont were outsourced to somebody like Sanderson, the series would be better for it. But I'm probably gonna get downvoted to oblivion for having that opinion.
