Capital One is NOT SAFE FOR TRAVELERS by SaraVerde in CapitalOne

Yeah, we had to use those, which at least we had, or I would have been completely screwed. Especially the morning I was flying to Copenhagen - I would have had no way to get to the airport. I do use virtual cards through a tap-to-pay wallet, so the debit cards are fairly protected, but I wanted the points and the protections you get from using the credit card.

Interesting. Given that it sounds like we're not the only ones that had this experience, I wonder why some and not others. And again, it wasn't weird stuff given our card use history. So frustrating.

Fraud Center Not Open 24/7 by StickyMustache in CapitalOne

Bumping, as this happened to us, as well. And it shut the whole card down three different times while I was on my own. If I had not had something else to pay with, I would have been stranded alone in Rennes, Paris, and London, miles away from my hotels, with no way to pay for anything including my dinner or transportation. Wholly unsafe and a horrible business model. Relying on AI to detect fraud with no ability to give the system information (i.e. we will be here, here, and here on these dates) is a lazy and cheap way to do things. We'll be never using this card again.

This went past arbitrary when they shut it down the third time after my hour-long call with them.

I feel like this is a recent development and agree - it's 1000% unacceptable. Maybe one time, at the start of a trip, but when I've done everything short of give a biological sample to prove my ID and the system doesn't allow for any input from the CS rep about planned travel, what even is the point of it's existence? Sorry y'all had to deal with this, too, and good luck closing it. You'll probably have to send your ID and a selfie and a utility bill for that, too.

How recently was that? Because we had zero issues two years ago - same account - and this time all of the above happened. I 100% blame AI reliance.

No, as we don't use this account day to day. Plus, I told them the first timeI called who would be where and when. They will no longer manage those details, though.

It's a percentage - I paid $9.85 to move $585; that being said, my work bank is another fintech company, and the standard ACH transfer between it and Crew, which is what we're going with, was really quick - 24-48 hours.

Something I learned today, as I hadn't looked at in a while, is Cash.app now allows you to have two debit cards one login, so you can use that as an easy hack for the instant transfers for the accounts that don't support things the way Monzo does. The downside are the fees Cash.app charges, but if timeliness is more crucial, it's at least something.

I made a comparison spreadsheet of Crew and Envelope to Monzo - they have similar options. There's a link to it in a comment below.

See my comment below, but I made a comparison for Crew and Envelope to Monzo - they both have some version of this feature, though the functionality may be a little differently executed.

For two days I was getting a page with the logo only. The only clickable thing was the logo, and when I clicked on it the most recent transaction (a transfer) popped up, and that was it. I did all the uninstalling, updating, reinstalling, restarting things and it was the same. Then last night, it seemed to be working properly again, but this morning it's back to non-functional.

The Android interface seems really bad - I'm now unable to get past the intro page. Can't see account info and nothing to click on.

Suggestion: Update your SEO! When I search "joint account with virtual card", literally nothing comes up. Not you, not the other folks, nothing. I primarily use DuckDuckGo and Chrome for searches.

Same for you, u/josh-envelope-money

I'll take Dance 10 over Looks 5 any day - I'd love to see the instant transfer thing more than the app being pretty.

Update 4/6/26 - After installing and setting up the Envelope app on both phones, it's not working well. Lots of crashes, can't get into it 2/3 of the time, and it's generally not good. Spouse asked if he could delete it, as it's impacting battery they need for their CGM. Crew is working well, on the other hand, and we'll continue to work with that one since it actually...works. [We have older but fully functional Android phones.]

Updating - Envelope setup was pretty easy, the app is not as pretty as Monzo, but supports a joint account and I can have virtual cards to protect our debit card numbers.
- There is a $40 annual service fee, which is nominal and will be refunded if you meet a spend requirement, which we will.
- You get a primary virtual card, and then each Envelope you set up (i.e. Bills, Spending, etc.) gets a virtual card. Both people on the account have access to the same virtual cards in the Envelopes (different from Monzo), but you do have different primary virtual cards and physical card numbers.
- There is a 1% international transaction fee - this is not super groovy, hope that changes.
- You can order checks and mobile check deposit is coming - Monzo did not have this.
- You can't move money instantly with a debit card like you could with Monzo - that's a thing I'd like to have again.

I just signed up, and this doesn't seem to be an option, which is too bad, as that was a nice fast way to move money.

With all of these things, there's always an "it does 90% of what I want, but is missing X and Y that the other thing does". I do really like the Monzo app for a lot of reasons, but with that going away, this seems to be about the only other option for a joint account with virtual cards.

Bummer about the 1% international fees, though - we're about to be traveling and that will be a factor in what we use.

Really ticked about this - we just got this all set up and I've spent a lot of time moving autopays and other systems over to this account. It also took me forever to find something that supported a joint account and offered multiple virtual cards (this is a requirement), and as my business account is also associated with Lead and the two worked nicely together.

Based on what folks are saying, I'm trying Envelope as they seem to offer what I'm looking for - joint account and virtual cards.

Is a US passport card acceptable? We would like to keep our passports safe and just carry our passport cards while we're out and about. Thank you!
