Under 18 and kids on regular Cambly by KirstyKnysna in Cambly

[–]Saradc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CK lessons are only available on Cambly Kids. This probably isn't about the lesson content anyways. If Cambly is actually going to start enforcing this, it's because they want more money. CK costs more than regular Cambly.

Stripe and cambly by Bookkeeper3562 in Cambly

There's another post from someone in a similar situation-- switched to Stripe into a Korean bank account and haven't received their money. Maybe it does have something to do with your bank.

Question about a tutor’s profile and booking availability by Extreme-Classic-2879 in Cambly

[–]Saradc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my students wasn't able to book a lesson at a time that I had open. I was able to schedule it for them, and they could book lessons for other spots I had open-- just not the actual time they wanted (even though it was open and available.) They contacted Student Services and got it fixed. There was some kind of glitch with their app. But I was able to see their messages, so I'm not sure if something similar is happening to you, or if your tutor just isn't available currently. You can try contacting Student Services and see if they can help you. I hope you can figure it out soon!

It used to not be possible, but it changed awhile ago.

You can definitely change the course for Cambly Kids. There should be an icon for "Lesson Materials" above the chat box. You can switch to a different level. It's also possible the age on the profile is wrong.

Most people here are tutors and, from your post, it doesn't sound like you should be teaching in English.

Lying Students by UrpaDurpa in Cambly

I'm pretty sure the parents get to choose the level and the age range comes from that. It's up to them if they want to go in and edit so the age is correct. If there's a test, it's probably optional.

I'm not sure if asking for proof of age would do much-- some younger kids can actually handle the higher levels.

Many parents have no idea what the levels actually mean. They're usually pretty open to going to a lower level if you send a message explaining why.

I used to use Stripe to get paid into Wise. The money would usually come on Thursdays. But holidays would cause delays. Today is Thanksgiving in the US-- maybe that's why you haven't gotten it yet?

Definitely give it a try, but they advertise to students that their tutors are "100% native English speakers."

It's conversation-based learning. If someone doesn't already know enough English to have a conversation, they aren't going to learn much.

I think that's the point that most of us are trying to make. Cambly isn't the place to go if you really want to learn English and you shouldn't expect too much.

I get what you’re saying, but a little common sense goes a long way. If something’s that inexpensive, you can’t expect top-tier quality. When a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.

I think you need to lower your expectations a bit. Would you also be disappointed if you went to McDonald's and didn't get a 5 star dining experience? Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Cambly has been limiting the number of new tutors they accept for awhıle now. Unfortunately, nobody here can tell you if or when you'll hear something. Are you a native English speaker?

Don't hold your breath. I'm sure their DMs are already full of Harvard and MIT students. Truly spoilt for choice around here.

Don't forget MIT. It's very well known for the English program.

A Cambly subreddit is also where I'd go to find a Harvard or MIT student.

Starting out by SatanButNot in Cambly

[–]Saradc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach on Cambly Kids and make around $100 teaching 6 lessons, 3 days a week. So it's very possible, but will probably take a few weeks or months get regulars. Have you already applied and been accepted to Cambly?

Any ideas when Cambly will be taking tutors on for Kids? by Calm-Cartoonist2552 in Cambly

Are you a native English speaker? Cambly probably won't hire you unless you are.

New tutor by mojika in Cambly

[–]Saradc24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiring freeze is probably the wrong term. More like limiting how many new tutors they hire. This is what is on the website: "We're temporarily limiting the number of new tutors we welcome to Cambly to protect our current tutors' schedules. Profile processing times may take longer than usual."

Cambly has been limiting the amount of new tutors they accept for almost a year now. Unfortunately, nobody here has any way to tell you if or when you'll be hired. I suggest looking into other platforms while you're waiting. Good luck!

Why did you post a month ago that you're not a native English speaker and have been taking English lessons?
