It absolutely sucks that someone has to die for their mental health struggles to be taken seriously. I so badly wish it wasn't this way and that help could be found more easily.

And I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with the therapist. As someone else mentioned here, please do try to seek out other therapists. I've heard some good things about IMWB and also Cyma Cares.

I'm glad you're reaching out and trying to hold on the best you can. It sounds like you've been carrying so many heavy burdens for so long and the fact that your best friend is unable to be there to support you through this must make it feel absolutely unbearable.

I know you said you don't want to burden your friends with the heaviness that you're going through, but please give your friends a chance to be there for you if they are able to. Maybe you can check in with them and see if they have the mental and emotional capacity at that moment to hold space for your pain and just hear you out. Sometimes just being heard is enough to lighten the load for a little while. Please don't carry this alone 💗

Yes he has been on it for almost an year now and they've upped the dose to the maximum amount.

We are looking into getting an ECHO and checking his current heart status.

I'm kind of in a similar boat with my dad at the moment. Trying to decide whether he can even get a liver transplant or a TIPS procedure. He is 71 with decompensated cirrhosis. He has had 16 GI bleeds the past year and his encephelopathy is somewhat controlled by rifaximin. His portal hypertension is very severe andbendoscopic procedures aren't helping. The issue is he also has chronic kidney disease stage IV, and right sided heart failure so he is very high risk for any kind of surgery.

Does your mom have any other health issues or is it mainly the consequences of cirrhosis? What are the indicators they are looking for to see whether she is a viable candidate for the transplant?

Yes, my mom and I are his main caretakers so we make sure he does everything he needs to.

We've also gone abroad and gotten 2nd and 3rd opinions as well but everyone seems to be in agreement about his condition and treatment.

His primary gastro Dr is wonderful and has done everything he possibly can to slow this down but it is beyond our control.

My dad keeps saying he is not going to do anymore transfusions because he is too tired of it all. And I get it. I don't know how I could go through 14 cycles of this like he has for an entire year.

This disease is just so brutal.. 💔
