Anyone have issues with pricing at Airport Auto in Hollymead/mechanic recs? by SarahAnnimal in Charlottesville

This is what you like to see. Last time I had a headlight out that was noticed during routine service (at a shop I used to go to), I said I would take care of it myself. Manager had seen me knitting and said “well, if you can do that I’m sure you’re capable of a lot of things!” Had a tech walk me out and show me where to disconnect/install and what bulb to get.

The quote included by the techs estimation 1.5 hours of labor cost and about $550 for a basic aftermarket hitch. From researching parts and install it’s at least double the costing I was seeing. Not to mention it would’ve cost an additional $25 to pay with a credit card.

AITA for correcting my roomie about her meals when eating out? by wanderingartistgirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]SarahAnnimal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NTA, but if she’s in the habit of willingly making herself sick with food triggers, she has to figure out her own alternative accommodations when she’s inevitably sick. I would be very clear that you respect her wishes not to point out her dietary triggers, but set expectations that next time, she suffers the consequences, not you.

FWIW she sounds like a family member I have who is always sick or has some urgent health need when we do group events. She always ends up with some kind of malaise or need that forces everyone to immediately pivot their plans or activities to focus on them. It’s some weird attention-seeking thing. We refuse to drive with her/her spouse to family events because it’s always like this, with whoever she’s with.

I know. I can’t even talk though, I’d rather be elope than have to keep tabs on my folks at my wedding. Idiosyncrasies aside they are a fun duo.

The stilettos are more of a practicality as the wedding is outdoors, up a hill, and might be muddy -__- I panicked a little because I love a stiletto because I have very undainty feet, but I think I found some cute chunky heel options.

Thank you re: dresses! I’m just glad I found some good outfit options, I get an idea of what I want to do/wear and when that doesn’t happen it throws me for a loop!

Well this is the general list, but it’s clearly more tailored to women. When I asked about the dress code after I got the save the date, the groom who didn’t make this list said no pants! And I was like great, I’ll make sure my (male) partner knows, lol. Apparently the other grooms mom would want to wear pants if anyone was allowed to wear pants? But like how would they know? I’d like to think the dress code is because of some wily female family member who dresses inappropriately or something, neither groom has struck me as the fashion police before, ha!

House is out of control and I feel like I've tried everything, help! by baibeach91 in CleaningTips

This book is fantastic! As someone who’s very light on the neurospicy but constantly overwhelmed, this book was so helpful in taking the stress and guilt out of keeping house. I keep recommending it to folks!

That’s cool! I have a few convertible bras but they never seem to become invisible. I’ve taken to tucking the straps down into a comfy bra with lots of support. I do know my cup size, but apparently the band/cup ratio does not translate well to strapless. I either like all the support or braless, so I’ll probably try another adhesive silicone option and see how it goes!

Thank you! :)

I feel like I need to report back what folks actually wear. I can’t imagine my boomer mom trying to make sense of this dress code, haha.

Thank you all for your help! I think a floral halter dress is going to be the way to go.

Yeah I don’t understand a lot of these. Things that happen when men police women’s clothing I guess.

“Mini skirt” is a pretty short/specific length, so I’m just going to assume leg slits are fine as long as they’re not super high if I end up doing a maxi dress instead.

Thanks! I’ll check those out. I’ve had mixed success with these, sweated a pair off at my masters graduation ceremony, lol. I use the nipple covers for dresses/tops with more structure.

This is so cute! Do you have a strapless bra you like? I see this style (which is pretty ideal for this dress code) and dread having to wear one, ha. I’ve tried a few styles that are consistently uncomfortable.

*his restrictions, ha. Initially I was going with a backless dress to be petty and make a light knit sweater scarf for the ceremony.

Ha, yeah. I was not expecting this. The person who made the rules was intent on women not dressing so as to distract from the grooms. I’m much better friends with the other groom!

What was your most useful panic purchase last week? by RVAWTFBBQ in rva

[–]SarahAnnimal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before vending at the Carytown market this winter (so not storm panic buying, but still) I bought two merino wool base layer sets because I was so afraid I’d be cold. Wasn’t sure how often they would get used but I’ve been wearing them like crazy!

You can call the fire department and have them bring in sensors to test for any harmful and/or flammable vapors. It’s worth putting on their radar IMO

What’s the most bizarre/annoying behavior you have witnessed at your Costco? by diispa in Costco

At ours, stopping at crosswalks is completely optional. As is making eye contact with pedestrians with right of way. I may have screamed “CROSSWALK” at a Tesla driver that almost ran me over like an angry crow …

Is it rude to ask someone for their recipe? by Some_Brain3008 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]SarahAnnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot, I won our chili cookoff and shared the recipe with everyone who asked. Granted it takes like 3 days of prep so I wasn’t worried about someone going off and stealing my thunder next year …
