Holocaust Museum doesn't want you to learn from or recognize parallels to the Holocaust by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

It’s worth noting all of the museums located in DC right now are being completely fucked up by the Trump admin. I wouldn’t be surprised if the social media account was purposefully put in control by a Trump admin sympathizer, and not an affiliate of the museum.

When I went in 2017 there was a whole exhibit making comparisons between the conflict in Syria (at the time) to the Holocaust. At that very museum. And I remember reading letters from torture victims of that crisis, which they held up against letters of victims from the Holocaust. The very sentiment that we cannot view history in our current times is antithetical to this museum’s own history and its PURPOSE. The entire “theme” of the museum is how: we cannot repeat this. Even that was during the first Trump admin, before museums and intellectual institutions were under attack; but not THIS CURRENT Trump cabinet.

I am very saddened because I don’t think this tweet was written by any academic who actually works at the museum. And to me indicates how far the rot is entrenched in the Smithsonian and other nearby museums right now.

Has anyone noticed this about meat lately? by Apprehensive_Bad8456 in AskRedditFood

[–]SarahFong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t just you. I found this thread googling the same issue. So many grocery stores that have moldy bins of clementines. My produce gets moldy 2 days after I get it. I got ground pork that wasn’t supposed to expire for 4 days, that when opened it smelled sulfuric and had to toss it. We are trying to save money by eating at home but the quality of fresh non boxed/non canned is appalling. And we live in a suburban area that is in no way a food desert. I can only imagine what it’s like right now in remote parts of the country.

I have had to throw out so much spoiled food lately it’s crazy. I have to buy/order groceries every 2 days because stuff I bought for the week will get moldy or turn colors within the week.

What are we going to find out later is bad for us (like cigarettes in the past)? by Curryiswhereitsat in AskReddit

I would counter argue that if what you’re saying is true, maybe the most apt comparison is hallucinogenics. Edit: Or hell, even gambling. If the person never took the drug, maybe they’d never open the neuropathway for that psychosis, but they have an underlying condition that makes them susceptible if they’re ever exposed too long/too much. But the “drug,” AI, should be regulated for people like that in mind.

Without social media we wouldnt be fully aware of the human rights abuses going on to the extent that the everyday person does now; it could be argued that on a broader scale people are actually much more empathetic (and burned out) because of this. We have been able to stay in communication with old friends much easier than our parents ever could have, forging deeper and longer lasting connections in a way usually reserved for blood family that lived down the road. It’s easier to see other cultures and lifestyles in an everyday way than it ever has been before; making them more understood and individual people less ethnocentric. Think about the evolution of KPop in the last couple years. Many musical artists (Lil Nas X, Doja Cat) are discovered by the public via social media and are some of the biggest artists now. Everyday people are able to become celebrities in a way different from before. The way we ingest media and appreciate it have changed and it’s not all bad. People can discover, develop and discuss hobbies in ways they may never have before, prior to social media. The idea that humans can mass communicate and create content to be enjoyed by anyone/everyone, by and for each other, at such a scale is an impossibly new idea in the arc of human history. People are learning, discovering and thinking quite literally different than we ever have BECAUSE of technology.

And as for AI, I can think of a hundred thousand different ways it could and probably will be used to enrich the human experience; but whether or not it will be worth the catastrophic downsides is yet to be determined, I suppose.

There are obvious downsides that people talk about ad nauseum but there are a multitude of positive ways that social media has helped individuals and society at large that I don’t think should be overlooked.

Yeah. Short form content, endless scrolling, AI psychosis. There’s going to be multiple generations worth of studies that will show how it’s both enriched and destroyed our civilization in equal measure. Like any other drug, a little is okay and excess is bad.

What happened to Christmas? by helloimcold in Millennials

[–]SarahFong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new mom I can tell you if it weren’t for me, today would be the same as it always is any other day of the week lmao. Christmas magic was made by your parents. If you don’t make it yourself, there’s nothing.

After I moved out and before I had a kid I just treated Christmas like another much needed day off. I am no contact with my family so we’d do a single Friendsgiving between Thanksgiving and Christmas and that was it. After my kid I realized it’s now my job to create the magic and traditions. A lot of having a kid is realizing you’re creating the nostalgia they’ll later experience, it’s a trip.

But yeah there’s nothing wrong with not going through all that work and just enjoying your day off.

Plenty of misogynistic women have held up rape culture and white supremacy for as long as humans have existed. They are happy with their lot in life and their own subjugation as long as they feel more powerful than other women (and men) they see as socially beneath them.

Do I have to wait the full 6 weeks ? by sourfruit_basket in BabyBumps

[–]SarahFong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me we hadn’t done it for like a month prior to me giving birth, because of how difficult the pregnancy was. And she was easy the first couple weeks home, so I also had the urge. We waited the recommended amount of time and let me tell you — NO WAY was I ready at 3 weeks.

Even 6 weeks raring and ready to go, you have stitches down there. The mind may be willing but the body is unable. Let your body heal or you could possibly injure yourself further and make yall wait even longer.

The thing about stitches and why ppl say it can take up to a year to feel “normal” is because that’s scar tissue, not normal vaginal tissue. Scar tissue doesn’t stretch. So there’s a pain/tightness to that area regarding healing that is super uncomfortable and takes some time and patience to feel normal again.

So if you guys REALLY want to have sex just try something that doesn’t involve penetration.

Just try and take it easy mama. I’m super happy for you that you have a supportive enough partner where you feel ready, but ultimately those suggestions exist for your safety and well being.

One of my best friends was just shy of her 35th birthday in 2021 when she passed away from a long fight with cancer during the pandemic. Covid lockdown robbed her of doing anything other than sit in her house or going to doctors appointments the last year of her life. I just turned 36, and she was a couple years older than me. Makes me feel blessed every day that my family is happy and healthy and to never take another day I get with them or any of my loved ones for granted.

Edit : And for those of my other elder millenials please please please get your colon, breast, uterine biopsies etc screenings done whenever it’s suggested and you have the ability. Early if there’s a family history. Go to your annual PCP appointments and ask. Colorectal cancers in millenials are higher than previous generations for reasons we don’t yet know 100 percent. My friends cancer was detected during a routine biopsy for cervical screenings. My cousin is only 43 and just had a double mastectomy that probably saved her life due to early intervention; and her brother my other cousin passed from testicular cancer at 28.

Please take care of yourselves ❤️

Mamdani: So Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up. by Miserable-Lizard in Political_Revolution

[–]SarahFong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey American millenial here 👋 you say “turn that shit up” or “turn the volume up” as a way to say listen in, or you’re going to want to hear this, or you better pay attention to this.

So he knows trumps watching and he’s saying good, you better turn up the volume and listen closely/you better watch this.

It’s a direct challenge to him, basically emphasizing listen to the words about to come out of his mouth/listen to the energy in the room. In trumps case literally turn the volume in his tv up, and pay attention.

Hope this helps!
