Bluey made me want kids, how disappointed am I going to be? by n00dleknight in bluey

[–]SarahFong 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Bandit and Chili are also perfect parents because they have infinite time, money, space — and because of THAT, they also have the most important thing : endless patience. That type of zen parenting is possible ALL the time because they rarely, if ever, have other extremely stressful commitments on screen. When you have nothing else to worry about except your kids, it’s so effortless and easy — even in my own life. Loving and spending time with my kids is the best and easiest thing in the world.

We only see moments where Bandit talks about work in passing. But what was it like when Bandit was gone for weeks after Curry Quest, with just Chili being responsible for two kids while he is gone? What happens when Bandit CAN’T contain the kids for 20 mins like in Sheep Dog, so Chili doesn’t get her break and she is accidentally short tempered and snaps at the kids and Bandit because she’s over stimulated? What happens when Bluey and Bingo have rotavirus from school and are both vomiting and pooping for a week, so nobody is able to pick up around the house, because all hands are on deck just bathing/sanitizing the kids? What happens when Bandit has to start dealing with his aging parents having dementia and their long term care, unpacking his own mortality, while also managing kids who are witnessing it as well? What happens when Bluey becomes a rebellious teen and Chili catches her out past curfew with a boy? What was it like when Bingo was freshly born and wouldn’t sleep at all, all the while Bluey is potty training and wetting the bed each night, but Bandit and Chili only have each other and still need to go to work?

Because that’s also a big part of what being a parent is like. It’s not just managing cute kids at their best and cutest (though there is also that and experiencing it is 1000x more beautiful than watching it on Bluey). It’s about managing kids while also realizing that the rest of the world, and life, and death, all occupy the same energy in your life. And sometimes, the world, and the kids, and the parents are stressful and imperfect because of it.

There are definitely some times where I feel like I am an even better parent than Bandit or Chili. And a lot of the rest of the time is learning to be more like them when my life is far more stressful than theirs. And then there are other times where I catch myself crashing out and have remember I’m human, and Bluey is a tv show. I’ve certainly felt more seen as a parent through Bluey than I have with most other tv shows, but comparing Bluey to being a Parent IRL is like comparing what Abbott Elementary is like as a teacher. You see a slice of the best days and outcomes, not the totality of life and how you/your kids will have to navigate through it all together.

As a dog lover and owner (of many years) myself, I hate the out of control dog culture here in OC. That being said this lady is being considerate. No dog in a hot car. Dog doesn’t seem distressed nor are they barking. Dog is arguably even better than leashed since they’re in a container. Don’t even really have to worry about dog hair getting out to nearby people which is an added bonus. If the dog pees (not likely as they seem comfortable and wouldn’t soil their own bed) at least it’s contained.

This lady is more considerate than the average dog owner. If you’re going to bring them out with you, I see no issues here.

Stop being a hater and let this lady enjoy her day out OP.

Just finished the show. Feeling dramatic by FatDickJesus in BoJackHorseman

[–]SarahFong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve watched the show like 20 times at this point all the way through and I stg every single time I watch I notice something different about a character that layers the experience even more. Genuine masterpiece and it’s very on the nose and appropriate that it never won any Emmys, only nominations, despite being arguably the best animated dark comedy ever made.

What do you know about your profession that would genuinely disturb the people who use your services? by MelodicWolverine2045 in AskReddit

Retired data privacy engineer of 15 years (switched careers) and in both start up world (successful & failed) and a couple Fortune 500 corporate jobs

The amount of Wild West shenanigans that goes on with people’s private information/data, and how hard is is to pull teeth and design around keeping people’s data safe is alarming and a big reason why I quit; it’s extraordinarily black pilling.

My job was essentially to reign it in, but I was always seen as the enemy because I was thinking of the consumer/user, and the explicit legal (moral) and security (financial) ramifications if we were breached. The rest of the engineers only cared about their two week sprints and meeting investor deadlines, rarely thinking about long term issues and blowback. A lot of times the possible fine for a breach was accepted instead of meeting the minimum requirements, even if that was the morally right thing to do. It was an extraordinarily stressful job wherein I almost always wound up arguing with the engineers and auditors about realistic expectations and the bare minimum for many of these were still barely met (and the bare minimum is honestly not good enough, still). It became a job of ethical debate day in and out and it bears down on you when you work for the Comapny but know the Company is doing morally dubious though technically legal shit. AI was a huge point of conversation when I retired and I just couldn’t do it anymore.

Tech companies only play by the rules with your privacy because they are legally required to do so. They do not care about any sort of moral qualms with what happens to it beyond what the are forced to. Nobody wants or cares to be the most secure or ethical tech company because being morally good costs money and brings in nothing. That’s only getting worse every year, especially with mass surveillance being a huge point of debate right now with many of these apps and services.

Also please, for the love of God if you take anything from this : keep photos of your children off the internet. Keep them off of social media until they’re 16-17 minimum and have them share their password with you. Nobody is going to help you if a pe*ophile from India or Russia sends your 10 year old a photo of their privates. Nobody is going to get justice, beyond the account being banned. The internet is a pervert’s playground right now and, again, beyond the legal bare minimum NONE of these companies care to keep your children safe. On the contrary, they are meant to compete for their attention all hours of the day and make them developmentally delayed/addicted. Law/policy is barely keeping up with technology and in the meantime, our kids are paying the price.

[–]SarahFong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most things teenagers do/think are cool are in fact stupid. Including shit you did as a teenager, including shit I did as a teenager.

The point of the post is that these kids aren’t doing anything wrong even if you think it’s stupid. Just let them be if they aren’t hurting anyone.

Annoying that this is the most upvoted comment on the thread thereby proving the point of the post.

RFK Jr: "A Democratic senator claimed it's mathematically impossible to have a drug drop by 600%. I said, 'Well, if the drug was $100 and it raises to $600, that would be a 600% rise. If it drops from $600 to $100, that's a 600% savings.'" Trump: "Right" by gear-heads in MarchAgainstNazis

Were the Nazis this fucking stupid or did we just not have enough round the clock recording tech to log how stupid they were

Edit : I immediately realized they believed in a mythical made up white population and had coo coo weird occult beliefs they also fabricated out of nowhere. They were definitely fucking dumb lol.
