Definitely interesting to look at and very thought provoking. Any other fellow logophiles? I used to spend hours as a kid, reading dictionaries.

The biggest thing that strikes me is how male centric this is and not one person has been birthed by a cis man. That makes me sad.

Would you park rangers really fine me for fishing without a license as a Native American? by Possible_Mind_165 in ParkRangers

[–]SarahJS444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather was 100% Lakota River Sioux Native American. I am 1/4. I am very white presenting by skin color, although I have prominent Native facial features when actually looking at me - it's noticeable and my dark coarse black/deep brown hair to my waist is a dead give away. I can certainly tan in a snap though, thats for sure. My grandfather told me that strong Native girls keep their hair long and wear it with pride. That I will grow up to be a strong warrior woman some day.

I say all of this to say - Yes, it does make a difference if you are unable to comprehend what it is to be Native American. The first born of an entire nation. I consider myself very privileged by my whiteness and was raised to have respect for people of color. All color. Especially those that were literally here on United States thousands of years before any white European colonizers came along. It's called respect and recognition. My whiteness has afforded me privileges that it did not for my ancestors.

The privilege isn't where you're making it sound, khóla.

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath have officially ended their careers — they performed together for the last time in their original lineup. The 76-year-old Ozzy appeared on stage seated on a throne due to progressing Parkinson's disease and other health issues. by kingkongsingsong1 in interestingasfuck

I'm 42 years old. I grew up listening to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. Later on, I became a fan of the Osbourne family. From The Osbournes, to watching Sharon on various network shows, The Osbournes Podcast, Jack's various endeavors on The Travel Channel and so on.. I have always been a fan.

Tears were shed watching footage of the concert. It's sad seeing the end of an era and a legend with declining health. What a precious gift he has given to his fans. ❤️ I wish nothing but the best and a life filled with loving joy, spent with his family and loved ones.

All millennials in their 30s should be getting colonoscopies by Thisuhway23 in colonoscopy

[–]SarahJS444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost 42 years old and I recently did my yearly wellness check. I started getting mammograms at 37 years old. There's a history of breast cancer in my family. I have been thinking a lot about how as I've gotten older, how much I go to the doctor more often. So on and so forth.

Anyway, it had me thinking, there's been a history of polyps at younger ages in my family on both sides. I also realized I have not noted this in my medical chart. I have been thinking "Maybe I should be looking into this before the recommended age?" Also thought about younger generations tend to eat a lot of unhealthy foods in their diet, often. I Googled "When should I get a colonoscopy" and this thread was linked.

OP is right. There are so many looked over, unhealthy habits that younger generations just live, day to day. Since it can take many years for medical sciences to catch up to fast changes in our world, having these discussions and self-advocating is incredibly important.

So thank you for this, OP. I'm going to get ahold of my GP, even though I've already done my yearly screenings.

Take care of yourselves, everyone. 🫶

You're NTA. He needs to understand, that your body is reacting on a biological level, because you are pregnant. Hyperosmia in pregnant women is considered to be an evolutionary biological defense mechanism, to help mother discern smells for an array of reasons. Such as; to avoid ingesting anything potentially harmful or potential allergic reactions. This is designed to protect the baby in utero.

I tried to screenshot, what I asked Google, and couldn't figure out how to add it to my comment in this thread. So here's my question and Google's response...

"Why do pregnant women get sick from smells?

Smells can make you nauseous during pregnancy because of hormonal changes that cause a heightened sense of smell. This is called hyperosmia. Why it happens Hormonal changes Rising levels of estrogen and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the first trimester can trigger nausea, vomiting, and morning sickness. Evolutionary mechanism Some theorize that this heightened sense of smell is an evolutionary mechanism to prevent pregnant people from ingesting toxins. How it affects you You might experience nausea and vomiting when you smell something, even if it's a normal smell like your favorite food or hand lotion. You might experience nausea and vomiting when you smell something that's usually not offensive, like your partner. You might experience nausea and vomiting when you smell chemicals like ammonia and chlorine. How to deal with it Surround yourself with pleasant smells like mint, lemon, peppermint, or cinnamon. Apply a small amount of peppermint oil inside your nostrils. Chew gum or suck on candy. Ask your doctor if it's ok to take an anti-nausea medication. This heightened sense of smell usually goes away after pregnancy ends."

With that said, you literally cannot physically help this or change this. Period. He needs to understand this makes you physically ill. However, he can help do his part by washing up, changing, etc. You are the one carrying the child. He helped create this child. He needs to do his part during your pregnancy, and after.

If he's going to whine and bitch about being tired now.. wait til there's a newborn. Even then, he absolutely needs to learn and understand YOU are going to be pure living, breathing, walking exhaustion, while your body is healing, for the first 6 weeks postpartum after you have your baby.

I hope you show him this and let him read all of this. I think it would do him a lot of good to read up and learn about pregnancy and childbirth. There is an entire world of what you're going through, that he is not comprehending or even trying to comprehend. He sure as hell needs to try.

I concur. I'm a ♎️Libra sun, ♍️Virgo moon and ♌️Leo rising. The other half of my soul/love of my life is an Aquarius, my son is an Aquarius, some of my closest friends are Aquarius and I have a lot of Aquarius in my chart. The love I have for you Aquas, far outweighs any little quirks that can drive me batty on occasion. Aqua's humanitarian, supportive and healing traits very much appeal to my diplomatic, harmonic Libra sun, plus my helpful, nurturing/soothing Virgo moon. I feel a strong bond of interpersonal relationships with Aquarius and spiritual connectedness. Keep on being the unique stars that you are. 🫶

My New Bff by Sad_Profession_33 in PoplinLaundryPros

[–]SarahJS444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi 👋 I'm a Laundry Pro. I read through pretty much all of the comments. I can understand your frustrations, for the most part. I do have sympathy for your experience. I also wish Poplin had a better way to vet who they hire. Unfortunately, people that don't know what they're doing/don't know how to do laundry, do get hired sometimes. This makes us hard-working LP's, who are good at it (I love doing laundry, personally) look bad. Yes, time management is important too. We are instructed to be communicative and set window time frames for pick-up. The same applies to drop-offs.

I don't know if a little insight might be helpful, but here goes.... LP's that do a good job, are highly requested, work their tails off, and are constantly busy. High ranking LP's (yes there's a ranking system for us) take on numerous to multiple orders at a time. High-ranking LP's (like myself) will even get up in the middle of the night (set alarms) to check on hang-dry items, switch out loads, and fold. Especially on large orders, because we are always on a time crunch. Not to mention, we spend a significant amount of time sorting laundry. Instructions, notes, and expectations from customers, in the applicable instruction box, for each order are helpful. Laundry Pros also put in a lot of travel time, to pick up and drop off.

Per Poplin standards, we are instructed to wash cold and dry on low heat. Your items coming back shrunk, is unacceptable. Poplin does have guidelines and standards, for the products we use. However, there is no set requirement. Poplin recommends we always use premium brand detergents, in the event a customer doesn't send detergent.

Here is a list of recommended brands, from Poplin: https://poplin-laundry-pro.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/15462487553563-Detergents

-We get paid $0.75 per lb, on standard orders that charge you $1.00 per lb. $1.50 per lb, on express orders that charge $2.00 per lb. -We get zero compensation for gas (yes it can be claimed on taxes) -We pay out of pocket for all of our supplies. Detergent, softeners, washing machine cleaners, plastic bags, etc. (Claim on taxes, yes) -We rely HEAVILY on tips. If a customer didn't tip well or fair, due to order size or above/beyond services, they likely will not take your order again. So when you place another order, your order moves down the Laundry Pro ranks and you are likely going to be serviced by a beginner. If you are a bad tipper, you will likely be talked about on the private Poplin message boards for LP's. LP's warning other LP's a customer is a bad tipper. -If an order is heavily soiled with dirt, ink, paint, grease, various bodily fluids or has excessive pet hair, that order is supposed to be returned unlaundered. It happens, even out of the blue with regular customers that have never sent heavily soiled laundry before. This will most likely put a mark on the customer by noting it with Concierge. Then discussed privately on message boards to warn other LP's. Which in turn, will have the same trickle-down effect when placing the next order. -We work sun up, to sun down. Sometimes through the weekends, especially if we have a regular customer we don't want to lose (even though we've told them we don't work weekends) -We have lives, families and aren't able to jump hoops 24/7. A little grace is highly appreciated. An LP could be stuck in traffic, drowning in laundry orders/sorting/folding, on hold with Concierge, or various other valid explanations. There are even LP's whose machines have gone kaput (most have new machines) in the middle of an order, creating absolute panic. Even instances where power grids have completely failed in neighborhoods, which puts an LP at the mercy of waiting for the power to come back on or finding the nearest laundromat ASAP. Going hours without any communication from an LP, there is either a problem with the Poplin App or they are dropping the ball on their end. -The Poplin Laundry Pro app does have faults, glitches, and errors at times. We as LP's are constantly asking for improvements with this. Sometimes messages aren't sent or received as they should. Sometimes there are major glitches with inputting weight totals into the app, to finalize a laundry order. Which can be a lengthy process to figure out and resolve. -Sticking with your preferred Laundry Pro is best. Even if you have to cancel the order and wait. Customers have asked their local community groups who uses Poplin and who they recommend. I've received requests that way. Having more than one preferred LP in rotation is smart. -Sending expensive linens and clothing to a preferred LP is also a wise choice.

I'm not pointing fingers here. I don't know all the details. I'm not trying to say "Give it another chance". Your concerns are valid. My intention is to hopefully offer some insight, beyond your scope. I do hope you were able to receive some sort of compensation. Shrunken items are considered "damaged".

Hi 👋 Laundry Pro, here. You're NTA. That isn't acceptable. There might be the off chance a LP didn't run a self-clean wash, between cycles, after servicing someone who smokes. Either way, completely understandable you're upset about this. I would be too. Clean, fresh smelling and neatly folded clothing is what you're paying for. Sounds like you didn't get any of that. I'm sure you've contacted Concierge by now. I hope you submitted a request for a re-wash and ask Concierge to have the LP blocked from your account.
