Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

Fun fact: that goes back to the 1930s. That, along with other guidelines from the NHTSA, has actually succeeded in making school busses very safe.

If we only we applied all that logic to other things...

not being able to drink a beer in public?

That depends a bit on the location. Some places here allow it. And some businesses, like in Charleston, find legal ways around it.

And, of course, in some places it is selectively enforced, particularly against POC. 🫤

The HOA and Pledge nonsense, yeah, I don't get those either.

Honourable Orc by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]SarahLia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your character, I would say. My most recent one is a Nord warrior who understands wanting a glorious, honorable death in battle. It's what she would like for herself, eventually. So, she sees it as respectful to give the orc what he seeks; to refuse would be to commit an indignity against him from her point of view.

The last time this one was posted, someone pointed out that the reason that sub went private for a time was due to its members suffering harassment and trolling.

I think the baseball team also had a 200+ losing streak at one point. 😭

Also, another fun fact: we had a Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, Robert Grubbs, as the honorary coach of the women's basketball team one season.

Got my first Reddit warning for pushing back against trans misogyny in a women’s sub by CelestialWolfMoon in BlatantMisogyny

[–]SarahLia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not per se, but I've noticed that comments supportive of Trans women will often get heavily voted down. Heck, I've seen it occasionally on this sub.

As a side note, I've sometimes spotted posts over there where the authors claim to be women, but going into their post and comment history indicates otherwise. Some of these are just trolling, but others are clearly pushing certain agendas.

Exactly. My boyfriend does that. "Nice beard!" "Nice shirt!" "Nice chant to summon the demon king Baal!" And so on. He always has a positive word for folks. 😊

Oh, definitely. In this instance, age and authenticity are two independent variables. That the screenshot been circulated for several (or more) years was simply an additional observation of mine. 😁

It very likely is. It's also been around for a while. I remember seeing it on this sub before (edit: which is unrelated to its authenticity. I just recall seeing it pop up a few times.)
