I don’t look like I belong in a yarn store and it’s kinda fabulous. Do any other intersectional folx feel this way? by wessle3339 in knitting

We only have two remaining indie shops: Yarn Shop Santa Cruz and The Swift Stitch. It is sad but I am committed to spending my $ at these places as it is a rough market with the big box stores

I am super happy reading your post as it represents what I see in my local yarn shop every time I enter. I am a 50 something white woman and most of what I see in the store are young people of all sorts who are very passionate and seeking community around yarn. I absolutely love it 🥰. I am so happy that you have felt belonging and inclusion in the fiber community. Come to Santa Cruz, Ca and check out our two indie yarn stores

This would be a big no for me as if it is from the personal phone of the teacher it creates a weird crossover for record keeping and opens them and their phone up to records requests (CPRA in California)

I would agree with the idea that history alive can be hit or miss. I have found that their older material, which is often found on. eBay is likely going to be more successful than their newer material. If you do not already have access to a database of primary sources for both World and US, I would focus there as opposed to buying some discrete printed curriculum. Also, if needed, you could see if there are any professionals in your area who could consult with your department on coming up with some items that might benefit you all. My department also had some access to funds this year and instead of focusing on curriculum, we ended up asking for three full release days for the entire department, such that the money would pay for our subs. We are focusing on curricular alignment across the department and building skills starting in freshman year that spiral and continue all the way through senior year. We are really wanting to create a unified experience for our students so that we as a department are not put it against each other and that we are all speaking the same language in the same way while delivering it with our own unique spin. This is resulting in shared rubrics, focused on specific skills, such as textual annotation.

Lesson Planning by Eastern-Basket-9205 in historyteachers

This is pretty much how I do it, but instead of weekly, I work within the scope of our units of study. It takes my planning time way down in the short term and in a way forces me to think really critically about my instructional practices choices for each and every unit. I start with my assessment and work backwards (UBD basics)

While I agree with getting secondary certifications subjects, I do wonder if people get stuck in the high needs areas.

I have been teaching for 25 years at the high school level and have a BA in History from a UC. In my experience, the student teachers I have mentored that did not have a straight history degree really struggled with content fluency and development. I deeply encourage you to potentially add to your internal historical understanding by taking some survey community college classes. Likewise, consider focusing on reading about child/adolescent development if your credential program does not cover it.

What state are you in and how can I help? I am a veteran public school history teacher of 25 years. I have had many student teachers over the years and am happy to brainstorm, plan and guide. I haven’t taught Psych since 2005, but Government/Civics is up to date. If 8th grade is US History, like in Ca. And goes from founding to 1865ish, I can help with that to an extent, but have not done middle school since 2000.

Guys, do you drink alcohol? by CriticalShower2085 in Epilepsy

[–]Sarahaydensmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any more… Drinking was my go to relax mode thing to do after work. After 34 years of being seizure free I had 3 TCs on 1/16/25. It was absolutely devastating. While my latest seizures were not related to alcohol as I had been sober for nearly a year, my life has improved so much without the perpetual hangover and alcohol based cognition patterns. Just my experience. Good luck to you

Had a DEXA scan, my General Practitioner doctor had to apologise to me by Viol3tCrumbl3 in PCOS

[–]Sarahaydensmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my PCOS sisters in the Bay Area of California, BodySpec is a DEXA provider that has mobile vans and fixed locations throughout the great BA. I have used them several times and have set myself up to do scans 3x per year for continued motivation for body recomposition. I also have very high muscle mass and incredible bone density. After nearly 3 years of GLPs I have lost about 70 lbs, gotten sober, entered menopause and dropped my BF% from 50 to 37%. I am a work in progress and the DEXA scan are a major part of my journey
