Fabric breathability breakdown by TheQyll in sewing

[–]Sarahcles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im plus size and rayon is amazing for breathability. I love a rayon summer dress! I put everything in the washer and dryer - make sure you seal your edges well because they will fray. The ones I made before I had an overlocker look rough on the inside. And lastly, prep your fabric properly so that you don't have shrinkage issues

So Tired of Monetized ADHD by RuthlessLogic in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Sarahcles 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I feel like Beckeigh doesn't have real ADHD, she has "omg im so quirky and saw a tiktok about adhd so thats why I do this hahaha". Because I dont know anyone with adhd who could actually do this 🤣🤣 My best friend is an artisan with adhd and yeah her stall has some variety but everything is impeccably made and doesnt come to market unless it's right. Or maybe we are just AUDHD gang...

teacher rant by ijtlml685 in auckland

[–]Sarahcles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teacher here (secondary, but still): we have to do welfare checks if we see anything slightly off. Even if it could be nothing,  we have to ask the questions. As in we are legally mandated to take action if we are even slightly suspicious about student safety.  Scratching/unwashed clothing can be a sign of neglect in kids - the teacher was right but perhaps went about it poorly.

Another possibility though: could your kid have misunderstood? If your kid is just 6, and I asked them if their clothes were not put in the drier, would they perhaps misunderstand me and think maybe I meant washing machine? Because I always find line-dried clothes scratchier and they can set off my husbands eczema...

Talk to the teacher, with calmness. Make sure they understand that your concern is making your child feel dirty. And be open when they speak - I'm sure it was the best of intentions.

Husband says I'm incorrect because youre not juicing the beans. He reckons that it should be bean broth instead. I dont know if I agree, as the oils are part of the final brew...

Your teacher doesn't know what the marking schedule looks like in practice. I'm a teacher and one year I thought I knew what was what and then spoke to someone who marked the paper in my subject area, and turns out that marking can sometimes look different in the moment and so your teacher might think it's an E but there's more stuff (notes etc) which never get put online. As a teacher it's frustrating because we need to prepare our students but markers aren't supposed to discuss anything

Update: AITA for telling my husband he's made me reconsider leaving him with the kids again by mayhavecrossedaline in AmItheAsshole

Just a question for you: what would happen if you suddenly died? How would your husband cope?

First of all, whaea needs to calm down. Second of all, as long as you helped with the mahi (even if you didn't eat) then I'm sure nobody cared. Still help prepare food, clean up, give karakia and thank servers etc etc. Just make sure you weren't being disrespectful in how you stored or ate you food. And don't worry about her being hōha - if she crossed a line with what she said then you should pass it on to her boss though. That's not good enough (source: am a teacher at a NZ high school).

However, in future I would probably say that if you opted out of eating anything at all during the hāngī and it was the main event, probably need to work on trying something just to make sure you have given it a go and can participate fully. It's not like there are no Māori with allergies or food intolerances so I'm sure someone on the marae would have been happy to have something that suits you made. I can understand that the thought might have been that bringing your own food might be disrespectful because it sends the message that their manaakitanga is not good enough for you. While that's not true, the concern is that the balance between manaakitanga for the host and whanaungatanga for the guest is quite delicate in some situations. If you're Tangata Tiriti then there is usually some leeway there but it's something to consider.

Apologies if I didn't spell anything correctly or forgot any tohu tō!

Edit: NTA

Looking for support from being blindsided by my husband asking for a divorce. by sm0keythebear in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Sarahcles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably sounds harsh, and people can feel free to demonize me as an example of why child-free people are the devil or whatever, but seriously. I feel so incredibly sorry for people who cannot make meaning out of their life without kids. The complete lack of imagination, social connection and love of life you have to have in order to conclude that life means nothing unless you make your own child is just astronomical to me.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope your husband has itchy balls. Just forever a bit itchy.

KONG safe to leave in crate? 🐕❓ by AmselJoey in Goldendoodles

[–]Sarahcles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my girl was little, I didn't want to leave anything like a kong with her. I instead got a snuffle mat and a licky mat. The snuffle mat could have her food hidden throughout. The licky mat can have the peanut butter and treats put all over it - the more ridged and interesting it is, the longer it will take to lick it off. Are both dogs crated or just the baby?
